I don't quite understand what you mean by large expendable hand thing. Could you describe it a little better?
I'll try to describe it better, it is basicly two handgrips on an extendable construction kinda like this :
only made of metal and smaller and with a metal 2/3 fingered hand at the end.
The whole would look kind of cartoony, but that wouldn't bother.
I hope this helps a bit more.

Ah, I get it, but I think it would be buggy and technically pretty impossible. You'd have grips all over the battlefield, units going through them like it were nothing, not to mention problems with holder's animations...

I was thinking of using it as a device to alter the "programming of a machine" not used permanent but for a short time, just to alter. would be retracted again at the end of same turn.

If you ask me (and even if you don't) I'd say that the hand animation doesn't have to come from the mechanic himself. Most of the animations in HOMM5 occur on the vertical axis, so it could be like a hand coming from above... or even better a hand that stretches in an arc from the mechanic above the other units.

An extendable hand out of the sky doesn't sound that bad an idea, it could work realy well.
But it's not up to me.

It would perhaps be the best solution actually... Ok, from the sky it is, then.
Now we got that solved.

Well, now that this is settled, I can create the descriptions of the Mechanic and the Technician.
Mechanic
However ingenious the many inventions of the Gnomes are, they are prone to faillure. This is why the Gnomish Millitary employs a huge corps of Mechanics. Ever present on the fields of battle, they repair and maintain the warmachines the Gnomes employ. The Mechanics are specialy trained in making quick and reliable emergency repair so that the machines are up and running as soon as possible and to get the Mechanics themselves out of harms way as soon as possible. But if everything else goes wrong, the Mechanics can always take controll of the machines to steer them in the right direction. Also the Mechanics are able to assemble new warmachines from spare parts at any given time.
Technician
The most able Mechaincs will be promoted to Technicians, who are givven acces to the best tools as to improve the quality of their repairs. As they become ever more valuable to the army, the Technicians are trained to defend themselves may need arise. Mostly using their own tools, the Technicians are able to deliver a nasty blow to an unsuspecting enemy. Technicians also have taken up the habit of carrying smal rockets around. These rocket, filled with gunpowder and shrapnell, are quickly lighted and aimed at the enemy, these rockets have taken many a life by surprise.

I don't think people on Pogosticks would make such usefull soldiers.
I say we should stick to Yak riders.

Quote: Again great job on the town and workout, but the actual idea is not really cool if you ask me.
Mechanics are cool, for warcraft, maybe.
Well we ARE making this just for fun... After making Orc and Naga/Lizardman towns, we started making Gnome and Gnoll ones, out of pure boredom. They're not meant to be in the game

Sorry about the delay, I have some basic stuff for the Ox/Yakriders, but I'm having trouble finding the words right now, i'm also a bit distracted by studying for an exam tomorrow, so when that is done, I'll get to it.
