I'm playing this mod now and enjoying it thus far. I've only ever played H2 and H5, so can someone tell me what this mod's story is about?
Is it... a fanfic continuation of the campaign of H4, or something like that? It's a pretty interesting story thus far.
I did change Malustar from a modded Pit Lord into Orlando the Demon Lord With A Face. I just didn't feel comfortable playing a modded Pit Lord as my hero, and also I've always wanted to use Orlando -- he's such a cool unique hero and yet he only ever appeared once in the Nival campaign, as your enemy in only 1 scripted castle battle. What a waste!

Yes, it's kind of a continuation of H4 story...
All the characters are from H4...all taking place in the lands of Nekross, Great Arcan, Palaedra, etc. We have Lysander, Gauldoth who are enemies but are main characters from H4, there's Emilia Nighthaven (who was human in H4 but now a wizard) and Solmyr (who was in H3 and H4 if I'm not mistaken)...There's Harke and King Elwin...
Very interesting story line and detailed too...
Watch out for last map on book1 part2...it's a rush!

I'm starting Book 2 now... this is a really great campaign so far!
I noticed that there were a few rough edges in the last map of Book 1 (black/blank tiles) and 1st map of Book 2 (the base tiles of redwood trees sometimes don't mesh with the surrounding grass tiles), and inaccessible buildings in both maps... but they're minor and have no effect on the missions... and I'm too engrossed in the story to care.
I know I used to criticize the sci-fi element of H4... but they're downplayed in this campaign so it doesn't affect me at all. I guess the Kreegans are kind of like the aliens in District 9.
To the creator... I know work was done to retexture a Pit Lord as Malustar... but I recommend you guys use Orlando (from the Nival campaign) as Malustar, retextured or not. A Pit Lord really isn't badass enough to portray Malustar, while Orlando OTOH lets me get immersed with the character, and makes me feel like a real Demon Lord stomping around.

I'm not the creator of those two books, but thanks for the compliment on Marzhin's behalf. Let me know where those messed-up buildings are and we'll correct them for the new release.
I don't think we'll use Orlando's model though - the Pit Lord was probably chosen so that Malustar could wield the broken Armageddon's Blade ingame and not just some axe.
We hope to release Books III and IV this summer, but as usual it will depend on my exams and free time. Here is an exclusive screenshot from The Trials of Nicolai, which is easily our most heavily-customised map:

Last map of Book 1:
1. In the underground map, near the end, there are 2 black/blank floor tiles.
2. On the northern edge of the above-ground map, the big white cylindrical tower that teaches you magic is not accessible. The square-ish white library next to it can be accessed.
First map Book 2:
1. Many of the big tall trees have ground tiles which don't mesh with the grass of the adjacent ground tiles.
2. The sawmill by the eastern coast is inaccessible.

@Cepheus: hey, screenshot looks hot! Lots going on! I do hope Book 3 and Book 4 will be released before Heroes6 but no worries!
My favorite in LOTA:
Book 1 : Solmyr & Emilia mission
Book 2 : The underground maze running away from the Minotaur dude

The A'trann (Sunken Kingdom) map...
Ok, what the heck is with the Stela of Kaos???!? I'm supposed to bring some sort of fire item to it... well Rune of Fire does not work. Phoenix Cape does not work. I've gone to every locale on the entire map and there are no other fire items! And no, there are no fire items hidden under the tree canopy either.
Where and what am I supposed to feed to the Stela of Kaos???!
Addendum: Wand of Fireball (from artifact merchant) does not work either!? AAAARRRRRRGH~!!!!!

You need to learn the Armageddon spell.

Yeah... after bringing Fire Elementals to that stela, and nothing happening either, I finally figured out that I probably have to learn that "apocalypse" spell.
The longest backtracking in the game! From the magic barrier all the way back to my castle!
Anyways, I've finished the 2 Books now. What a great tale, especially Harke's. I was really invested in the characters in Book 2. This from someone who has never played HOMM past 2, so having no idea who these people are. If HOMM5 had been this story instead (with good cinematics and capable actors), it would have been a better game.

I'm glad Harke got it going with a dark elf chiefstress instead of some primped-up elf princess. Dark elves are always hotter. Way hotter. Just gotta know how to handle them. Harke can do it; he's Da Man.

Do you think the books will come out before Heroes VI get properly released in Sept 2011?

Yes, but it entirely depends on how quickly the scripting is finished.

BTW, Harke uses Thralsai's model and animations... and Thralsai's animation camera is all messed up. I don't know how to correct the camera, so I basically adjusted his animations... which I think is an even better way to go anyways, to differentiate him from the animations of other Warlocks.
1. Normal attack: I gave it the orator animation, sped up to 1.5. It's quite funny. Now Harke/Thralsai slowly and contemptuously raises his hand in a "you are beneath me" manner, gestures with his index finger and pinky, and a magic bolt shoots out of his hand. And the camera is correct here!
2. Magic cast: I gave it the buff animation, sped up to 2.0, without any sound or FX. Harke twirls his staff fast, jabs it into the air overhead, and his spell strikes the target. This animation is faster than the normal cast animation, which isn't fast enough to sync with attack spells even at 2.0. I put the normal cast animation, sped up, for buffing. Light magic spells are slow enough to sync with the normal cast animation.

Just curious, is it possible that you guys might be continuing the series (or starting a new one ) with the Heroes VI engine? I'd love to see new books for it when it comes out.
Personally I always liked Heroes IV's story (gameplay is another matter ) and it would be great to see it continue.
