to make necro playable u must lower the necromancy skills, so players won't be tempted to chain heroes make several fights each day and play with the opponent's nerves.

Is it possible to balance heroes?

If someone knows heroes 4, he knows that there is a skill (tree) in that game that is crucial for any hero. It is killed combat. Thus, you are guaranteed to get combat as your 6th skill and for every six after that - I might be mistaken here, the principle is what matters.

The creators of heroes 3 decided that wisdom needs the same treatment and they were probably right. But aren't there any other skills which are necessary for any hero?

Shouldn't there be a guarantee to get them?

What about logistics, for example. Can you imagine a situation where you would reject this skill offered?

although i haven't played h3 in toh, i have played tons on lan games and i must say i'd refuse logistics for earth early game anytime (might heroes), you can clear out a map with earth much faster than you can with logistics

besides, having expert earth and moving only with fast troops can compensate a bit for the logistics and still win you fights you could never do without the dreaded mass slow

I agree with you on earth Valk, I'd consider choosing earth too especially if I am pretty sure I'll get earth later.

I meant a free logistics skill given to you. Would you ever refuse to visit a logistics hut on your way? I think seldom would anyone do that.

I think logistics (and maybe earth too) should be a fixed skill, just as wisdom or magic school for might heroes). This whole system should be rebalanced.

For example, logistics offered at 5th, 10th and 15th choice (level?) if not done before.

Wisdom at 6th and 18th.

Earth at 12th.

Pathfinding at 15th or at some point,

well this is getting too complex this way, but you know what I mean.

I donīt like that kind of "balancing" the game.

Wouldnīt that mean, your main hero would ALWAYS look the same in every game?...means, he would always have the same secondary skills?...on a fixed map perhaps?...where is the fun of that?....sorry...a bit of random is ok for me...if it is unbalanced, no problem...luck changes its sides from time to time....and as i mentioned before...the "random" factor in a heroes game makes it possible for "average" players () to beat a veteran from time to time...and that is a very good motivation....
How the hell will the veterans get a game, if everything is known BEFORE the game is launched? Only the 5-10 TOP players will play each other....boring..:S

I can see how hard Frank does to get a game in the zone. This is not only because of the time difference (Canada and Europe is about 6-9 hours i think), but coz of his very high play-skills.
I would have no problem to play him on any map....i would be dead on desertwar latest week2 i think....on Giantwar week3 perhaps...coz there would be NO chance for me....and for many others as well.
But on a random map, there still could be a chance to win, when your area is a bit richer (arties, topes, cons, hives) than his.

So....donīt take us noobs away the small chance of winning against a vet....please..

at preset templates where starting area monsters value are low you can fight most of the creatures except shooters the starting days anyway.

So if youre in need for resources nothing says that your starting days will be much shorter. And besides playing necro usually means just 2-3 necro heroes at start to fight with. If you play for example castle you can fight with basically each hero you got first days since castle has an instant need of resources first week.

and no, i didnt recall of you as the seinfeld n00b until you reminded me now. But i guess it just proves my point

i think that 1 of 2 things should be done (if possible)

get rid of hives/cons completely

or

get new structures that support other towns, such as maybe a dendroid forest (defeat many dendroids for unicorns)  or a thunderbird nest ( defeat many thunderbirds for cyclops) or a magi's library (defeat many arch magi for giants).   dungeon's should be weak as they have a portal from which to summon( maybe defeat many harpies in return for medusa or eyes).

just an idea.

as stated, its just stupid to remove em.

If you dont want em at randoms you can make your temp so you dont get any cons or hives.

Removing the possibility, or changing the reward is just stupid.

Something else that occured to me today....

When starting with dungeon above ground, its impossible to take crypts for extra income until week 2,because of the dirt terrain.  i think this deters many from taking dungeon on templates they know all towns start above ground.   Is therer a way to maybe change thier terrain above ground to grass?

problem with cons/hives, you cant control them 100% by just the rmg template. so only way to change is in another part of game, and only 2 choices there, remove totaly or give different rewards.

again regaurding the dungeon town thing tew, this is a template issue. and yes u can set a template to make starting area ground native or none-native etc, but u cant control if a map with under will place towns under or topside. i think theres an added problem with dungeon, i think the comp/core program somewhere classes dirt as native as well as underground to dungeon, but obv u dun get terrain bouns's on dirt. this duel nativity may just apply to rmg. havent tested fully this, so not 100% sure here.

Donīt know if it is possible to do, but that would help to lower the number of skells a necro player could gather in a few weeks....

Or perhaps a necro town has "weekly" costs of..hmmmm....an specific amount of skells?
Like (number of day)*(number of week)*20 (30) = costs
E.G.: on week 3 day 7, players has to "sacrifice" (7)*(3)*(20) = 420 skellies

To make it logical, u can say that u have to sacrifice these skellies to "place" it on the skeleton transformer, so that they will "transform" into those units which will appear in the different town dwellings on day 1 every week.

....numbers to be discussed of course..

I agree with this solution above, but the formula  can easily create bugs. So i suggest that a certain percent of all skellies should be taken weekly, depending on the number
E.G. 20% at less than 500
    35% at less than 2000
    50% at 2000+
