"Laelth's Training Grounds" is now available at Laelth's HOMMaps, http://www.vandea.com/homm/maps.html.  This map was made at the request of several people who wanted a faster way to practice battle-tactics skills against live opponents.  Hope you enjoy it.

From the readme file:

When playing Heroes IV, it's easy to spend twelve or more hours running the map only to have your fate decided by a ten minute battle. This map is designed to allow you to build an army quickly and practice your battle tactics skills.

"Laelth's Training Grounds" minimizes combats against neutrals and accelerates hero growth. Portals connecting enemy territories open on day eight. Players may "select" what terrain they'd like for the final battle. If both players agree, the corresponding portal will open. If they do not agree, the combat terrain will be chosen randomly.

Master of Combination

here's another map for practicing battles

http://www.drachenwald.net/tournaments/moc.zip

made by MysticPhoenix from the Drachenwald site.

Final battles will take place day 3, games last about 30-60 minutes. Not suitable for ToH Free Challenge, but something for the small hunger between the meals ;-)

Currently the "Ring of Greater Negation" does not appear on the map.  Are you suggesting I should put it on the map, TC?  With a script that allows each player to choose to have the ring available?

Most people that I've talked to prefer not to have the ring available in a game.  Why do you think it should be available on this map?

just curious ... wondering if I'm missing something ...

Cool.  That would be an easy start-game option to add (in which case both parties would either get the ring or neither would).  Or, it could work just as well as a separate version, but I think I'd prefer the in-game option. If other people are interested in this option, I'll implement it in version 1.1.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Insa.  Hi Jinx.

Lowschool has got me pretty low--tired, mostly.  I stay really busy, but I'm loving it, truth be told.

As for IP 1.5, I've made the changes I mentioned (eliminating two lvl. 4 generators from neutral towns on each side).  I've also re-checked the ATT script to insure that the bonus goes to the first hero, and not the most powerful hero.  I have but a little more polishing to do, and I'll send it your way.

Last chance for any additional suggestions ...

I made a new observation.  Everyone else prolly new this but I am slow lol... but anyways. If th pan box said + 15 attack to first hero in army. It went to the first hero in army that had combat skill.   If first hero didnt have combat it skipped them. etc. THe moment I took combat on my nature dude he started taking the +15's etc.. Anyone shed anymore light on that.

@ Lealth.   So by taking them outta 2 towns there will still be a chance that the 3rd town that still has them can match and the other guy only gets 2 still.? Just frustrating to have the game decided by the luck factor and not the skill factor.

Silly Question time:

If you place bombs on say 1/4 of the map after week 2 and destroy alot of objects, does the map size go down? There fore helping a big map not be sooo big for transfers later in game?  Or am I not thinking correctly here?

For example: After week 1 when both players have chosen which heroes and which alters they want on IP, all those prisons and alters are just sitting there sucking up map resources and making more to send thru transfers. So what if you placed a Bomb on all of them...and after week 1 what ever is remaining, blow them up and get rid of them.  Just a silly idea.  Not sure if it will help or not. But my game always slows down when I run past them alters lol. SO I know they eat alot of memory being there.  Just some ideas.

also, +15 att or +15 att-def bonuses.. can see a pattern there, looked like random to me..

a fixed glove on each side would be cool too but would need to make doors open a bit sooner then-just an idea not a suggestion.

laelth, remove the +15 attack option on medium pandoras, it's silly how a guy can get like 250 attack and the other will still have max 90, or at least make that option viable for the bigboxes, not the medium ones all over the map, it can ruin certain games

and now ... more suggestions from our reporter in the North, ARanger

There are countless things that can ruin a good game.

Sanctuary

Demonologist

Divine Intervention

50 Angels that die to 23 then Rez 10 back.

Maps that take Mass cancel out, but leave Steal All enchantments.

Double the army then your opponent.

Barbarian Rush with 30 Immortality Potions.

Townportaling outta battle. ( Hit & Run )

I could go on and on.
The ultimate problem is Heroes 4 was made for single player, not a Balanced Multiplayer game. heh.
