I adore playing with Rampart and on a big rich map with Mephala as main (my girl!) i have never lost with it.
I like Rampart cause of: her  ,fast and strong units and no "speed hole"; unit speeds have small differences so opponent cannot cast slow or haste and play with almost all of his units . Also its a scientific fact that green color is relaxing for the mind .
What i dont like is that not being immune to level 5 spells,gold dragons seem to be especially voulrenable by implosion.I tested once: was hitting lots of golds led by 30 level Thorgrim with additinional +30 resistence in arts.They didnt resist the implo not even once in 10 cast!
And yes Tazar is ok too ...

Stronghold. Because of behemoths, they're ugly, they stink, they look stupid, their way of walking is weird, they hit hard, i just love them
least favorite is rempart, elves are so boring...

Everyone has a favourite town!?
Well i have to go with Necropolis ... brutal race and probably one of the most balanced attack/defense unit combination ...... huge numbers of level 1-2-3 creatures
available. The most powerfull level 4 creature in the game
( contradict me ! ) Also the Dread Knights are awesome,
only Nagas come close to it... Level 5 units are probably the best ranged unit ( even in small numbers )... These were the "+'s" ... there are some weaknesess :
1) Weak level 1-2 units ( compensated by large numbers )
2) Also the Ghost Dragons "kinda suck" - i use them as cannon balls against ranged units...
3) The Wights ... how can i put it.. are there just for intimidation... no ofense to Coldfyrius that's just not enough of them to do real damage... they are helpfull only in the first 2-3 weeks ... ( only an opinion ).
That's about it for the Creatures ... the spells are a totally diferent story... ANIMATE DEAD (3) rulezzz if you are patient in a fight you won't lose any creatures ...combined with necromancy is awesome . Earth Magic based town - often you get Meteor shower and Implosion as attack spells , slow takes the edge of fast units ...
My brain hurts at this hour will talk l8r !
For those who don't play Necro just because they look spooky ... try it out ... it's BRUTAL !!!

My favorite town of course is Dungeon, for Mutare, the Dragons, and the portal of summoning because you can get twice as many Azure Dragons then if you have the Frozen Cliffs flagged.

En Taro Adun...
Does the word "elendil" mean anything to you guys? Rampart is (and therefore Preserve will be) the greatest town ever!!!!!! Great economy, all 5 lvls of magic, good units plus, the Elves are in!!! the only con I can think of is the fact there is only one (low-HP) shooter... perhaps the Elves should be lvl4 just like sharpshooters...
BTW: I see that there are more rampart/preserve fans than I hoped..
...may Elbereth be with you...

hmm
i don't have a fav. town
the town that brings the most raw power is tower followed closely by castle.
but all the other towns have their advantages as well.
i'll tell ya what town i don't like though
necropolis!!
nothing wrong with the town, i just find it way to boring to spend a whole game collecting skells
BLECH!!
as for best critter. there is no doubt, pond fer pound ya cann't beat tyhem damn mighty cows!!
anybody whose had like 10 azures wacked with one hit by 80 of them knows exactly what i mean. there is no other creature that can have an impact on a game like they can

The Rampart is the cheapest town, with so cute creatures that you can't love them!!!
Moreover, it has the best 1st level creature.

My favorite is Tower
Why ... its a long story.
Every second person mentioned that Rampart rules or Centaurs are the best lvl1 creature or smth. like that.
To tell you the truth some of these ppl are right. However, it all depends on the map. On Toh maps (those that a played) there are always lots of res. - so its not that difficult to get upgraded creatures. And when Tower is upgraded its a formidable foe.
You cant compere WUnicorns to NagaQs. Even with the blind. Actually I love when my nagas are blinded - that means that the opponent is going to leave them alone and he/she will attack other creatures. LOL Big mistake
Dendroids will not participate in a battle they are terribly slow. And if you use teleport on them LOL you lost.
Grand elves in one/two (at most) turns do nothing. Ill sacrifice gargoylas just to make them useless.
Pegasi die to easiely but they are a nice unit, the same goes to centarus.
From my experience Ramart wins only b/c of the dragons. But Titans are easialy as good as goldies.
Remember that above applies to rich maps (both money and res.) On small/poor maps Tower has no chances ... we know why - has anyone bought a giant, ever, and used him in an army without the upgrade. Nagas with 5 speed etc.
Remember that every town has its strenghts and weaknesess.
One more thing. Another weakness of Rampart. It has some nice creatures, but what to do with them.
defending: sucks big time, only one shooter (lvl3) = you have to go to your opponent.
attacking: only dragons and pegasi will fly across the screen. The rest needs 2/3 turs. A lot can happen in 2/3 turns and you know that.
One thing I have to admitt is that Rampart is so #$$#@! cheap. Its just not fair.

ya, thyr good just with one ... but in a big big group, theyr mean! The bone dragons r good 2.
vampire lords are just too expensive ... i don't like them.
And one other thing ... who needs an army of skeletons when you can have an army of zombies?? just cast haste on them and they kick butt!
zombies are so much better than those stupid skeletons ... so why gather an army of skeletons?
I say upgrade those skeletons to warriors, then sacrifce them on the alter. Then u get lots of experience
HAH, and you guys say Necro sucks! Yah, whatever! ... free experience at alter is always cool.
Ramprt is also cool because the units look cute. Just cast exprt slow on opponent ... and brung your dendrods and dwaraves into the front-lines ... and you'll win I like dwarves, they're magic resistant ... like Ufretin.
i usually don't buy the dragons because i need the extra money for dendroids and unicorns. <--- they're not cheap
I think my favorite elf hero would be Aeris: because he's a magic hero, and he gives the pegasi +1 speed. jenova's cute 2. mephala's looks a bit too mean, so i usually don't hire her, unless I need a scout.
Overall i think my favorite town would be .... inferno. magogs rule!
