from what I remember you can't do that zound golems thing because from what I remember no matter how you position your initial pegasus, there's always gonna be one golem not going for him. That will put you in a nasty situation second turn since you won't be able to lure the goems or whatever you play against with speed 5 to wherever you want. Also, in a fight like that, check the battle ground you'll be fighting on.

It'll suck if all your plannin is based on moving the horsie back and forward and then find out that the terrain has a groove in the middle, screwing up all your movement plans.

But than how did xarfax do it? IF - if it is a unit with a speed of 3 that it's certainly possible, 4 may be possible as well, but as far as I can tell, there is no way to pull it off with a speed 5 creature unless you have mass slow and a big reserve of spell points + spell power.

well i'm not xarfax, but i managed to beat 600 diamonds with that army,no spells.

i guess the battleground setup is critical if you want to win this fight.

If you have only one obstacle in the middle you will make the golems split into 2 groops and you don't want that cos the next round you'll have to move your other pegasi too far back and round 3 the elves will be the  target.

so what you need is a setup that allows all the stacks to go for the 1 sp stack.Having an obstacle on the on the edges would be perfect.
I think with a clever use of force field magic(blocking the path)this can be done with any setup

just my two cents

yah, that's what I was saying. It's pretty stupid to go attack zounds of diamond golemns without checking the battlefield first.

You might have to retreat just becuz of that. :\

My favorite is the Elixir of Life. You build it with the three little artifacts that boost you one or two hitpoints each -- they're common, so you can assemble this combo-artifact fairly often -- and make something valuable from something not worth much.

The individual items are good for low-level troops. Adding 1 HP to each of a thousand skellies ain't bad. But the combo artifact rocks with dragons. When my BDs have 379 hitpoints instead of 300, and when a dragon that has just 1 HP left will heal all the way up to 379 before it moves, well, I can just smile.

Against the map, the combination of dragons, the Orb of Vulnerability, and the Angelic Alliance is awesome. Step into a topia, and you can cast mass slow, while all your BDs get the benefit of prayer. This outfit is also good with archdevils (though they don't need the speed so much) or with a Fortress army. A human opponent might spoil some of the fun by wearing the Recanter's Cloak and preventing the Angelic Alliance from doing it thing...

The Ultimate Outfit uses every slot:

1. Angelic Alliance
2. Orb of Vulnerability
3. Elixir of Life
4. Wizard's Well
5. Angel Wings

By the way, another natural combination is Armageddon's Blade and the Wizard's Well; but you have to edit the map to allow the Blade to be generated.

Here is a strange thing. If you have angellic alliance and your opponent has red orb, your prayer spell at the begining of first round will work, but after that no more spells can be casted.Same goes with armourer of the damned, the red orb allows it.
But as said earlier, recanter's doesn't allow the prayer.

More artifacts....

I saw some great artifacts mentioned in this thread -Helm of Heavenly Enlightenment, Angel's Wings, Boots of Speed, Shackles of War, Cape of Velocity, Golden Bow (especially if you have Titans), etc., and a good word on Tactics which can be devastating if a person knows how to use if effectively.  However, I don't think anybody mentioned the artifact that negates all natural magic resistance for any creature on the battlefield.  (I can't remember the name.)  For example, this can be helpful if you have troops from the Castle Town and you're going up against troops from the Dungeon Castle.  Since you can cast the first spell because the Archangels have the highest speed, you could potentially cast "slow" on all of your enemy's troops, which, if you have tactics can be a deathblow.  Otherwise, since black dragons are naturally resistant to all spells, it would allow your opponent to counter with his or her own spell earlier in the battle.  And very importantly, it allows you to cast implosion when going up against black dragons. Also, if you have dragons yourself, you can use this artifact to your advantage as well (if the situation warranted it) by casting shield, stone skin, haste, etc. on them.  I'm surprised no one mentioned this artifact....

It is mentioned. Orb of vulnerability aka black orb is on the top5 of many above posters.

But the red orb -- Orb of Inhibition -- got fewer votes than I expected. In a long game, you could plan your play around seeing it and getting it and developing a might-only hero and using it in the Big Battle.

But I guess that most human-versus-human play is smaller maps, so that some players even consider Wisdom a waste of a skill slot.

Oops....

Yep....that's what I get for not remembering the name...it is mentioned.  And the Orb of Inhibition can be deadly too, especially in the scenario you mentioned.  I didn't realize that most people play on small maps instead of medium or large maps.  To me, it's more fun to at least play on a medium map...I think it might be a greater test of skill.

Just to make one fact clear:

In online games, there are NO small maps played!
At least not for any tournaments.

But you always "break" so early according to what i've read. Me, against the AI on a rqandom map (XL 2 levels), come week 3 or 4 I still haven;t found the one enemy, usually.

How big is the infamous Jebus, anyway?

BTW, lately I play against 2 AIs and play as player 3 (tan). I don't like red, the map looks like danger. I can see red and blue in the small overview map, but tan is totally invisible there; so if I'm tan, I can see the enemy there!

One thing that doesn't work is to use the Orb of Vulnerability along with Armageddon's Blade  :-)

Raise your hand if you ever tried it.,,
