Oh Gawd! It looks like peasants made the cut! The IGN shots
If you look at the screenshot "Organizing your Army" on the IGN review (see the 'Stealth thread for a good fast link. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for 'Images'..) you will see the following things:
Monks/Zealots (being attacked)
Champions
Marksmen
5! Ballistas in a stack
Incubus's hated "Ball and Chain man"
Pikemen (dead)
and what appear to be a bunch of louts carrying sticks. I'm horribly afraid these are peasants. I don't even want to know what their special ability is. "Cause Amusement"? "Promote cabbage growth"?
Oh well, it least it gives the Necro fans something to be happy about.
Speaking of necros..the shot called "Bleak Landscape" shows that cerberi have been put on a diet, and it looks like the Ghost Dragon is back. It also seems the mysterious Venom Spawn may be a shooter ('Shoot' is up on the screen while they are selected. Also of interest in this shoot is a glowing figure that looks like it's holding its head in one hand. Could this be a wraith?
We get a clue about the Stronghold in the "Leading the Army" shot, which shows centaurs, Ogre magi, behemoths, what look like cyclopses from the back, and what appears to be a bird made of lightning. If this is the new look for the thunderbird, I really like it. Can't wait to see it animated. Also in this shot is a fallen hero.
Another shot called "Sending the Dragons" shows trogs, beholders, hydras, black dragons, goblins (?),medusas(?), and a hulking figure with an axe (NOT a minotaur). Could this be the berserker that's been alluded to?
We get a look at Preserve forces as well in "Fight It Out". The shot shows leprechauns, wolves, sprites, what seems to be female Elven archers, and satyrs. Maybe when we're raiding magic gardens from now it, it will be a bit tougher?
Finally, the "Winter Fighting" screenshot shows the already controversial Dragon Golem, Gold Golem, halflings, dwarves, titans (based on the lightning bolt shown on the picture at the 3do site), Genies, and a very elegant looking Naga Queen. There's also something that looks a lot like a wrecked steam locomotive. I presume this a dead Dragon Golem? Or maybe some weird new Academy War machine?
It's nice to have new material to speculate from. :-)

Peasants aren't bad...
If they are neutral...
But trogs? Argh!
Why they had to be in? This means there at least one weak unit in one town. So there can be more...
Many of the units look amazing even without any animation in them.
Just can't wait the game...
