Hey, I registered here because I have a problem running HoMM3 on my relatively new computer (XP Home). I have played the game for years and years on my old computer, but it crashed in the autumn last year, and I bough a new computer. I travel a lot, so I bough a mini-laptop with no CD rom, meaning I had to download Heroes to play it. But I won't get it to work on this computer. I have downloaded all kinds of versions - iso files to mount and install, complete cracks, Wake of Gods... but everyone have kind of the same problem.

I can install the game and run it, all fine, but after having played 10-15 minutes or so, the game crashes. This is the case with every single HoMM version I have downloaded, including WoG. Is this a known problem? I just find it very strange if my computer can't handle the game when I can play without problems for a while before it crashes.

Also - I can't install WoG (which obviously means that the different WoG versions I have downloaded have been cracks). I have no idea how to change the system language to English (USA), which the installation demands. I have tried various commands on the control panel, but nothing seems to work, so I feel pretty stupid right here.

Thanks in advance for all help!

To change your language settings go control panel (make sure it's in classic view an option at the side) then regional and language options. From there it's straight forward. Pick English US from the drop down menus
Check what is running in the BACKGROUND like music, msn or other stuff that might use sound or graphics. CLOSE stuff you don't need.

Ummmm... ok - as I was saying...

I need some help to run the game without my DVD (its heroes 3 & 4 complete).
I need any and all help to run Heroes III complete without my dvd.

There a trick besides making a clone of my dvd and using daemon tools to run it? Cause that uses up 8GB on my hard drive (which is small - 78GB left and it's a fresh OS install). Is there any way to just copy some needed files from the dvd to the main folder for the Heroes3C to work? I know the dvd holds a cinematic that is 400mb+ that the install doesnt have. Is there anything else I need to copy from the dvd to the install folder to play without the dvd?

Where do I get that? Plus I don't want more on top of it or H3 Complete changed in any way.
What do I need to do to just play Heroes 3 Complete without my dvd (as I said before)?

EDIT: Nevermind - got it to work without the dvd. Yay

If you buy the Homm3 game from : www.gog.com

(GOG only charge you 10 bucks for the game)

..you should have a version for XP that will also work with WoG properly.
If downloading WoG, make sure you get 3.58f and install/run all updates.
Search the web for allinon.exe and also get the files thatīll update the game/correct bugs (from the WoG homepage).

See www.celestialheavens.com and other pages devoted to HoMM.

Does anybody know where Equilibris mod can be found for Homm4?

You can get Equilibrus over at CH as well. I'm a lucky one I guess. I don't use CD's for any Heroes games or map editors for 1 thru 4. There are Mods for H1 and H2 that contain no cd exe's.

Well if it was in a box with stuff like that - I would. I'd spend a whole lot MORE for it.

i believe there must be some compatibility problems with your system.

hit ctrl alt del (go into taskmanager) turn off all non-essential programs.

install the software

run it.

something is running in the backround causing the problems, simply a matter of figureing out what it is.

For me, I found out that I have to switch my computer from 32 bit to 16 bit in order to play in Windows mode. Not gonna switch. I'll wait for VCMI to release their product to play in full screen.

Holy cow I was shocked to see this.

I posted it in 2004 originally.

Too funny.

I'm convinced it was a sound driver after all these years.  I have retired to old box, which never did play H3 very well. This one still crashes sometimes, but at least I can play.

Running HOMM3 in XP/SP3...

....I sure couldn't get it to work.

I was happily playing HOMM3 for many years without encountering any major snafus. Then one day I decided to allow Microsoft to update Windows. One of those updates was SP3. That's one of the reasons that I never allow MS to install auto updates on my computer. I knew right away that it was that SP3 that caused HOMM3 to crash. I simply went to a previous restore point (and SP2) and then HOMM3 worked fine again.

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 with my new computer. I specifcally ordered a Dell Vostra so that I could get XP Mode loaded on it. I selected XP/SP2 from the compatilbity menu and it runs fine. I had a problem with the screen resolution but I finally figured that out. You can see my post on the Screen Resolution thread, if anyone is having or has had a problem with that.

Hope this helps.

Sandy

btw - both my 12-13 yr old CDs and my new HOMM3 Complete work on bopth Vista and Windows 7. Remember to select XP/SP2 mode though.

I searched every topic I could find over the last year for this and couldn't find help for my particular problem.

I am running windows XP and got Heroes 3 Complete to install without a hitch.  However, it will not play.

When I attempt to run the executeable, it opens the loading game screen and then brings up the Microsoft message saying "Heroes has encountered a problem and must shut down" with the send/don't send option. I've tried in other compatability modes to no avail.

I have a purchased copy.  Non-pirated. Not burned. Not cracked.

I have found no available windows patches in my searching.

If anyone could direct me to fix this issue, I would be most appreciative.

If I overlooked something obvious, I apologize for beating a dead horse.

HOMM3 and Windows 7

I doubt I'm the only one with this problem however, I have not seen an instance where it is mentioned.

I have a version of HOMM3 that was appearantly redistributed by SoldOut Software (www.sold-out.co.uk). It has worked fine on other computers and versions of windows up to XP. When it comes to Vista or 7, I cannot get the game to install. I repeatedly get a Macromedia Shockwave(tm) error. I have tried every download I can possibly find but, I still cannot get the game to install. I feel like I am overlooking something very simple and I apologize if this problem has been discussed previously. I don't want to purchase another copy just yet in fear of running into the same problem. Is it me, the version of HOMM3, or Windows 7? And, how do I fix it??

You don't say what version of HoMM3 you have. I don't think it matters anyway.  I installed "Complete" On Win 7. I ran the install under "Adminstrator" and placed it in the (X86) programs folder. Right click on game Icon on your desktop and run the compatibility program that gives you the option to run under XP-Sp2, if necessary. It's ran fine. You're not getting a missing DLL are you? I ran into that with H5 on Win7.

I had Complete installed and running fine until the gameplay CD exploded in the drive. New drive installed and I dug out my older copy of the original Restoration of Erathia CD. tried to install in on 2 completely different systems. Same error, it won't install because of macromedia shockwave error. Will try the compatibility mode, didn't think of that before. Will more than likely repurchase another bundle set with all versions, just trying to play with what I have now...

Thanx
