I really was not a big gaming fan until i purchased my first computer back in the early 90's.At this time i was hooked on zork and spear of destiny.{not sure if any of you know of these games}
i played them until they were severly outdated,infact by the time i was done the disc would not work anymore.I think it was 1997 when i was turned on to heroes 2 which i played atleast 1000 online games with my brother.OMG i was a true junkie. you know you have a problem when you fall asleep at your desk while playing.
So when heroes 3 came out i couldnt wait to play it. I must have played it a year before i even realized the mplayer set up(which now i think is gamespy} I played there for a good 6 months meeting such great friends such as Ironwill and rethwen.during these months i had countless run ins with people quitting the game and not finishing which frustrated me so much i considered going back to just playing the A.i.
At this time i asked around(june of 99 i think) if the game was played in any other gaming rooms.YAHHHOO i was sent to the zone where i saw many rooms labeled SIMYAR. I asked about this in the first 10 seconds i was in the zone and signed up within a half an hour {at this time if i remember correctly you had to wait for email verfication to play)
My first toh game was against rash jones i beleive. he beat me so badly. I could not fathom how he beat me so bad ! lol needless to say i stuck around and many players helped me to learn to compete
thank you to all of you. few ill mention Ironwill,frank,pandora,wacko,jb,ralfbo,zud and ofcourse ves and mellissa.
So now i look forward to many more years of playing in toh.
p.s. the friendly trash talk and drinking was fun also!

Hi Braveheart! I will always remember that game. I think you came back for awhile with the Kalar Mcleod handle?
Wow. Quite a list, from Oracle season 1. Its great that someone still has that old data. I lost it all.
I see each name and remember games with most. Vesuvius started VHC back around that time, the forerunner to ToH. Oracle and VHC (I forget what this stood for - um Vesuvius' Heroes Challenge?)collaborated on ratings because I believe no open tournament format existed in Oracle at that time.
The VHC format was interesting. Vesuvius established himself quickly as a world class player and in the VHC format, worthy players could "challenge Vesuvius". Vesuvius would play 1-2 of these challenges every week and post the results, usually with some funny quip as the price to the loser for challenging and losing. I think Vesuvius won over 95% of these challenges. This also secured his top ranking in Oracle.

Yeah, that was indeed how Vesuvius' Heroes Challenge (and later, ToH) was born.
Oracle did actually have Open format games, one of the main reasons I joined it at the time. It also required 3 games to go from Quallifying to Active (as it does now) before you could join the Main Tournament.
I think, and dont quote me because I could be way wrong, that the collaboration was done so that players who challenged Vesuvius would still be able to get Oracle credit for the games... it was like another tournament for Oracle at the time (like the Main Tournament and Daemon Cave were)
I remember the quips Vesuvius' made whenever he won (and that happened close to that 95% Pro suggested). I know because I was one of the first to challenge (like 12th out of well over 100 I think or something)... and I got one of the harshest slams =)
Fun times, good times, nostalgic.

@Pro: I wanted to let you know I still have all the old Oracle League code from Heroes 2... including player lists. You sent it to me =)
If you want any of it, I am more than happy to email it to you for, you know, nostalgia =)

Man, its funny I still remember those homm2 oracle list of players. All the names are like history. Also I wish I still had that 'challenge vesuvius' page, it was a funny list for sure.
