A Strange Cloud?

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/asiapcf/09/12/nkorea.blast/index.html

Why would anyone take the time to make a news report about this if it were a "strange cloud" only? I do not understand the significance unless it were nuclear in origin. This is suspicious news. This article was front page headline news on cnn.com. This causes me to wonder the reason for making such a big deal out of a supposed "forest fire".

1. If our sattelites can detect more than meteorological things then why do they no give the other information? Why not give the spectral analysis as well? With that information we could have more insight as to the nature of this "mysterious cloud".

2. Why would it be headline news if it is only a "cloud"? Methinks someone wishing to remain anonymous feels the american public needs to get this information. I can't help but wonder if some political motivation is behind the releasing of this information. I wonder who is the driving force behind this press release.

Perhaps they don't want people to know exactly how sophisticated our technology is. I know that our sattelites have the ability to magnify an image down to the size of a coffee cup sitting on a table, granting it's a good weather day. Perhaps they don't want to intrude upon a sovereign nation's privacy?

I have so many questions that will simply remain unanswered for the time being.

North Korea has said a large mushroom cloud seen over the nation in satellite images was the result of a deliberate demolition of a mountain for a power plant.

Laughable.....

A friend of mine printed that news story out for me this morning.  They demolished a mountian...how do you do that without a nuclear blast?!
Demolished a mountian...think of all the food the money that funded that could buy for the N. Korean people.
They demolished a mountain...
I don't think I'll ever get over that.

Excellent Suggestion Wolfman

I am also led to wonder even if they had demolished a mountain and used conventional mining explosives(such as dynamite/TNT), then WHY WAS THERE A HUGE MUSHROOM CLOUD SEEN BY NEARLY EVERY SATTELITE IN ORBIT AROUND THE PLANET?

They might as well have used the 'weather balloon' excuse. That would have been a bit more believable methinks.

Can you imagine the amount of dynamite neccessary to blow up a mountain?!  I don't know of any easier way than a nuke.

*Sigh*

Again with the neverending cycle of neo-idiotic-christian-conservativism....

http://www.lebanonwire.com/0205/02050914DS.asp

I believe everyone will find that link very on topic with this thread, however, I am nothing short of annoyed at the misleading popular opinion of the world.

As I have said before, many american sects of christianity are very enthusiastic about what happens in Israel. More and more people are continuing to form biased ancient orthodox opinions leading them in two directions: crusaders(infidels) and defenders(unholy invaders). The only factor of significance is the amount of economic power that the Mormon sect has control of. If they ever decided to fund a crusade then it would mean all out war between Saudi interests and about 40% of the american population. There would no doubt be a small percentage of christian extremist filtering in from other countries, but I highly doubt anyone would give them any recognition of any sort. All the world would see the U.S. as a nation of crusaders(if such an impossible campaign came about). Our own government would of course use every means within its power to hinder and suppress such an occurence. It's all very etc.. etc.. etc.. to me.

I know that president Bush is really more of a moderate than the true conservatives when compared to his own party base. I honestly do not believe he could ever be swayed into something more when concerning Israel because of his strong ties with the Saudi royal family.(he's christian yes, but oil comes first for any Texan)

I was also very concerned to see how many people actually supported the judge who made the sculpture of the ten commandments in conjunction with the constitution. When he refused to remove the sculpture I was quite amazed at how many people actually stood firm with him. The law says it is illegal to cross church and state; clearly showing a violation of our constitution.

(concerning the last line of the last article)

I hope the legal experts don't get executed for making the suggestion.

Isn't it nice to see privatization at work?

Complete Change Of Opinion

I no longer believe China to face off against America in WWIII. I have gone through this thread and edited all of my posts to correctly reflect my new stance.

I'm glad I finally came to my senses. I was spouting lunatic nonsense.

Glad to see you saw the light Concis
And now we have a new nuclear power to deal with aswell, considering North-Korea has publicly aknowledged that they have the Bomb.

This brings the total tally of official Nuclear powers up to 8. Allmost a doubling in 10 years (India and Pakistan declared themselves in 1998).
With Israel being an unofficial nuclear power, it could actually be a great bargaining chip for the US, to allow Iran to get their own A-bomb. (Offcourse under the notion that they truly wanted peace between Israel and Palestine)

First of all it would allow Israel to publicly declare that they have the Bomb, thereby greatly reducing the risk of another Yom Kippur war. Secondly it would allow Iran to put serious pressure on Hamas to stop their suicide bombings. Something for something.
Thirdly it would act as a stabilizing measure in the whole middle east, aswell as showing to the the population in said area, that the US is not trying to setup puppet regimes and control the area.

Offcourse this is all just wishfull thinking on my part.
But wouldnt it be nice if politicians in both western countries and the middle east, was actively trying to setup a lasting peace. For the benefit off the whole world?

Regards

Defreni
