KISS! Knights In Satans Service.

I just saw the movie Detroit Rock City, becase i'm a huge kiss fan, and it came to my attention that kiss had their troubles. They were a rock band, coping with the devil, in the time of Disco! People standing outside their concerts, and accusing them for all sorts of things, destroying the minds of the young for one.

I'm not a satanist, and i enjoy the music from Kiss a great deal, but it must have been hard for them. But still they achieved something. You've got to have something special to achieve that, and you've got to be willing to show "it" to the world.

I'm sorry to sait it, but i can't see the "evil" in them, and if you're a fan, or you've listened to their music, their lyrics, you'd know they aren't evil. With songs like "Beth" and "Boys are back in town" you can't go wrong. They are masters of music.

In my opinion, it's really something everyone can listen to, not everyone may like it, but it doesn't burn your ears! Example.. Heavy metal might freak out someone, while techno hurts others. Kiss is soft rock with good lyrics, it's really good.

I don't want to start a "Well i like this band"-thingie, it's been done to death. But i just found it very interesting how they rose to become so known throughout the world, when so much should have kept them to the floor. The Seventies were disco, and i'm not sorry to say it, KISS is not Disco!

I didn't know where to post this, but it seemed like "real life struggle" would be good to have here.

Feast upon the glory, that is KISS!

I was made for loving you baby, you were for loving me, and i can't get enough of you baby, can you get enough of me?

A lot of rock bands made it in the seventies. Take Queen for example Oh sure, they had a few songs with a disco feel to them. On the album Hot Space, released in '82 In fact, their most famous songs were made in the mid-seventies. We Will Rock You. We Are The Champions. Bohemian Rhapsody. Need I say more?

So I guess that "making it" in the disco era isn't a very unique achievement. I'm not saying that KISS ain't good, mind you

I really enjoy the older music (seventies a bit of eighties) and appreciate their talent.  Trying to become a musician is not easy for many reasons... especially when you're struggling against a stereotypical society such as the one we're living in.  The heat of the spotlight is too much for a lot of people... anybody that can make it big in the real world must have something special.  KISS is just an example of one of these groups... it's amazing how they stayed together for so long... that's true determination...

All In Good Fun

The rock&roll group, "KISS", is an extraordinary achievment in the sense of modern musical rock&roll talent. I think they were the first to do what many bands still attempt today. They successfully broke stereotypes and made it very entertaining to watch. The more you look at their costumes/makeup and listen to their music, the more you might find how difficult it is to place them into any specific genre or motif. In fact I think they were the first band to create their own form of genre affectionately known as "shock-rock bands".

I especially value the influence of a shock-rock band because they enable a person to take the first step in coming out of their restrictive racist secular views about people in general. KISS is still known, to this very day, for their enormous concerts of lights and entertaining show-stopping dazzlement. This group goes for the gusto.

You basically leave the humdrum drone of everday life when you go to the concert(from what I've heard); have a great time; and when it's over you come home feeling really great and able to deal with jerks and bosses. I've always felt KISS should be looked at as entertainers; normal people with a uniquely creative edge that can be reproduced by others but never replaced. You can laugh, dance, and sing even if you don't know the words, and it's all ok; who cares what you look like or where you come from? That's the important thing to remember when you listen or attend a concert of theirs. There are no prerequisites for coming or listening; it's a free world; no one is any better than anyone else.

In the immortal words of my favorite group Nirvana: "Come as you are, take a chance, the choice is yours". No more stereotypes; no more racism; no more hatred.

Just a point, KISS always denied to my knowledge that their name stood for Knights In Satan's Service or anything like it.

Says the guy who heard John Deacon in Let Me Live

I listened carefully many many times, and that bit you thought was John's voice is actually Freddie. Also, as I've learned later, John never ever recorded any vocals, despite what you see on some of the videos. Those bits where you think you hear all four of em - nopes, he ain't there.

Sorry, I just had to say, that, and I didn't feel like looking for the right thread

Meh, you argue with  a biography and a couple of online sites which says otherwise then if you wish, not my problem.

Don't get me wrong, but I just can't believe that John sounds so much like Freddie and never sang any solos within Queen

Saying "3....4..." hardly would register as a solo singing venture methinks anyway.

But Woock, Kiss was also being accused of satanism. That really toughens it up, since every mother in the world wanted the band eliminated? .. Queen might have been accused of looking gay, etc etc.. But thats the same with Kiss. So kiss had it somewhat harder.

A fair few fundy Christians accuse every single musician or band that doesn't sing solely gospel music of being satan worshippers, I'm sure at least once Queen have been accused.

And no wonder. Just read the lyrics to Great King Rat.

Here's a quote:
"Now Listen all you people
Put out the good and kep the bad
Don't believe all you read in the bible
You sinners get in line
Saints you leave far behind
Very soon you're gonna be his disciple"

And I've seen a list of "evil" music on this one site, and even the Beatles were there.
