I always choose artifacts,even when playing on Impossible,well I usually play on Expert....

I choose the artifact mostly. If not, i choose resources. I never choose gold.

As was established fairly early on Page 1, I think the meager gold bonus isn't worth it. I regularly choose the resources, as extra material is always welcome during the early stages. Wood and ore aren't too exciting compared to other towns' rare resource bonuses, but you never know when there'll be a shortage of the very basic needs. I play a lot of random maps and I occasionally fail to find the sawmill until late in the first week. That's rather embarrassing when I'm playing as Rampart or especially Fortress.
I never choose the artifact. Put up against the resources, it just seems a little trivial.

Artifact, always. SP on 2 lvl M/L/XL random, generally at Expert.
Strong guards, no water. Impossible would be just longer, not better.
At Expert I can fight resource guards week1.
At impossible I choose gold specialist starting hero + artifact. +350 gold/day is much better, then +500 gold.

Resources cause they'll help you build some structures that you wouldn't be able to build if you choose money or artifact.
