Anonymous Feedback to Mods

I had an idea that I thought was pretty good. Basically the idea is that I think some members wouldn't say thing in public or directly to a mod. So I was thinking that perhaps one member could talk to numerous members in the community to see what they think could be improved etc. Like person to person.

I think you'd get a hell of a lot more input from members this way and perhaps if some members were unsatisfied with how certain things were going, you'd get a better impression this way, because I think many members don't take the time to post in Tribunal etc...

So in general, the mods would have like a few general things that they might be worried about, so whoever conducts the survey could seek out those things from the members as well as any issues that arise.

I know it sounds kinda stupid, but I think it would be a good way to identify problems and help our mods improve to be even better.

The member would basically give the general idea of what members think etc and report to the mods.

I think that any member who wanted to speak anonymously to the mods could easily just use the email function and not name themselves.

I find that any time information is passed on from person to person, there can be a tendancy for the information to kinda change en route. Plus the moderator would be able to ask questions back directly to the person posing the ideas (if we were to have any )using email, but if we're talking through another person it does tend to make that more difficult.

Plus a pain in the butt for me to go through emails for me ^L^.

Anyways if anyone has ideas then they can IM mods or post it, & they can decide if they want to put it in consideration or no.

For the record, the e-mail function is not anonymous.  It reveals the e-mail address of the sender, and it prefaces the body text with "Hello {you}, this message is from {member}."  I just tested it to confirm this.  One cannot send an e-mail without providing a valid username and password.

I agree with Pandora regarding telephone game syndrome.  Even if the transmitter was just using copy-paste, it's would be very hard for them to stay uninvolved with any subsequent debate.  And, as Pandora also points out, the logistics are messy.

Personally, I would hope that I'm not so intimidating that people wouldn't feel free to voice complaints directly, even without anonymity.  I don't bite.

If someone wants to conduct a survey, that's up to them.  Whoever does this might want to take a look at "official" polls (Gallup, etc.) to get an idea of well-designed questions and so on.  If the results were posted in Tribunal, the members who were polled would probably show up just to see how their answers measured up to the larger group.    Provided such a survey was designed carefully, I think this could be an interesting project.

Oops, I should have checked into that before I posted. I knew they said from Heroes Community, but I thought you could use the email without being logged in. :S My bad hehe

You get the point anyways

I do think that most of the mods are easy enough to talk to that people wouldn't feel they need anonymity. In the event that a member felt one mod was unnaproachable, they could always talk to another mod anyways to get that subject raised in the mod-squad if needed.

I think this has to do with one of Stiven's recent posts where he states that if someone is on a different side of an issue, he will not get a red star even if his thoughts are very deep and intelligent.

I would adapt this idea here, to red sox's post. I think what he wanted to say is that if someone gives a bad input on behalf of a mod, that he will be badly looked upon by the rest of the community or by the mod he/she adressed the concerns to. This has nothing to do with posts themselves like Stiven imlied, but rather that some people might find it hard to adress a mod. I'm not saying I agree with this or that I'm one of them, I just wanted to clarify what the idea here was.

Red sox, if I'm not in-line please tell me and I'll remove my post

Right, I do understand that.
The main problem I have with it, is I personally find it hard to trust that sort of communication. I've seen in the past members will post things like "well so-and-so said this to me but they were too afraid to say it opnely" and my reaction is generally to assume that there is no "so-and-so" and the person I am talking to is the one with the problem.

In the same light, this one member could feel that I am a very biased moderator, they in turn say that they've polled the community and 100 members agree that I am as biased as they come. Now its possible that this is 100% true, but it could just be that the person who has an issue with me is just making trouble...

I find it much easier to have direct conversations. I personally welcome any criticism, as I've said before. I'd much rather be told I'm doing something wrong and fix it, then happily continue repeating the same mistakes without being aware that i'm doing something wrong.

I think too that the mods here care about the community, so if anyone feels there is a problem I really hope they will come to us either here, or over instant message, or email - whichever.
