Apparently it's the German one. Benedict XVI. There go my hopes for an antichrist (don't ask).

Um....

He's 78 years old. Anyone wanna guess how long his reign will be?

I predict 7 years maximum to 5 years minimum.

As for the Nazi youth claims; you should all know that children his age were conscripts. I don't know if this is true but the gossip is he deserted his post at an anti-aircraft station in Munich and ended up a prisoner of war in an American P.O.W. camp. They are also saying he asked to be taken off the role during his highschool years for Nazi conscription. They obviously said no.

Does all this really matter? No. In my opinion catholicism has much to learn from the modern world; Equality for Women being at the front of my mind. I don't care who the next Pope is. According to their laws: his word/law is "infallible".
I simply laugh at such nonsense.

It's true that the "German" youth under hitler weren't exactly given much choice in their membership of the Hitler Youth organisation, and they certainly weren't given any choice in joining the armed forces at that stage of the war. Quite how willing a member of either he was is anyone's guess, though I'd like to see the story of his desertion as being "on the run" for 6 months to a year sounds rather suspect to me given the situation in Nazi Germany at that stage of the conflict.

All of which, as has been said is rather moot given his current attitudes.

I think I saw somewhere that he didn't want to be a Hitler Jugend, but that he was forced into it (since it was practically mandatory at the time.
And the story of him being reluctant doesn't seem that far fetched, since the Christian organizations after all where the ones Hitler and the Nazis had the most problems subduing...

I'm not saying it's totally unreliable, nor that he was pro-nazi, I'd just be interested to hear how he managed to evade the authorities after he deserted. Given that he was of perfect military age (by Nazi standards at least) at the time, it would have been extremely hard to avoid being noticed and re-drafted.

Quite whether he was totally anti-nazi is anyone's guess and will probably never really be known. One suspects like most of his generation he simply had no choice.

Yes, And What About....

And a good question is why a German was elected Pope...

Bah....who gives a rat's arse. Catholics need a wake-up call. Someone tell them to smell the equality brewing in the world. And I don't recall Jesus ever wearing as much jewelry and gold when praying to God. This is pointless.

The catholic church has built it's whole ethos around maintaining what it sees as christian values for centuries. Whilst it would be nice to see it move with the times, lets face it, it's hardly likely.

New pope predictions by Malachi and Nostradamus

(not sure how credible the source is but it's an interesting read!)

-Malachi is a prophet who predicted and described 112 popes, including John Paul 1 and 2 to a tee.
-He proved to be right about ***Joseph Ratzinger the new pope elected by saying that he would come from the Glory of the Olive.
-According to Malachi, the pope will rule with extreme peace. The olive branch means peace.  The new pope's title is Benedict XVI," “From the Glory of the Olive,” refers to the Order of St. Benedict, because they have a well-known group within their order called the 'Olivetans

Malachi's prediction:

So From the Glory of the Olive will be followed by a Peter the **Roman** and after that the Catholics hold that the terrible judge will judge the people.

-The new pope won't last long due to his old age (78) and then the last 112th pope will be elected.  According to Malachi, world war III will begin after the last pope is elected.  He will then be murdered by the antichrist and the catholic church will be destroyed.

-Malachi's prediction also converges with the one of Nostradamus quatrains who predicted the next pope as being a **Roman** pontiff, the birth of the antichrist in July 1999, the begining of WW3  the murder of the last pope by the antichrist in Lyon (France) and the total destruction of the Catholic church.

the birth of the antichrist:
In the year 1999 and seven months
The Great King of Terror will come from the sky,
He will bring back to life the great king of the Mongols.
Before and after Mars [the God of war] reigns happily.
the new pope Joseph Ratzinger
Because of the passing of the very old Pontiff,
Will be elected to Rome one of good age.
He will be accused of weakening the Holy See,
And long will he hold to it with stinging effort.
the death of the next and last pope.
**Roman** Pontiff, beware of approaching, The city of which two rivers bathe/christen (Lyon, France)In that place you will come to Spit blood, You and your friends/followers when the rose will flower.
the destruction of the Catholic church:
Oh vast Rome your ruin approaches,
Not your walls, but your lifeblood and substance;
Someone with a sharp tongue will make a dent in you,
Harsh chains will be around it all."
