Yes

Yeah, that is most experienced players game plan for week 1 on those settings. I used to do it exactly that way also, but now I realized if you plan well you don't need 8 heroes to open the map, I try to do it with 6 heroes and teh extra two are my main and secondary, I try to make one of the scholars open map for experience he needs for advanced wisdom and expert scholar. My main and secondary main(magic&might) go to the bonus locations or maybe fight an occasional tough battle for the experience and also to preserve more creatures for later. I usually don't care about level 1 or 2 so I lose alot of them, I always get a 2nd town and make some higher level creatures anyway if I can. If not then I am more careful, but careful also means slow often so you should be aggressive, even if you lose 3-4 6ths and 1 7th opening your utopia week 2, that advantage could still win game if you then get some extra towns or go and take your opponents utopia day 1 week 3 for example. Or anything as valuable as Utopia is worth losing a few since if you get really better hero stats, a few creatures are unimportant really.

The Fortress...

The fortress definitly needs some quality heroes. Most of them lack any uniqueness from the others. Just a thought...

Arch Angels cursed!!!??!!??!!

What you gain from that! AAs does 50 damage and expert curse makes that to 49. So curse lessens total damage made by them wilth only 7 points! And makes it 343 instead of 350. Is it really a big gain? Gnolls have only 6 hp, so 20 gnolls would endure only 120 damage. AAs would kill 57 gnolls! And if heroes were equal Arch Angel would do more damage killing around 60-70 gnolls. What is your point Ichon?

Also why the Mass Bless is more useful to Fortress is because: All Undead are immune to curse (as they are immune to death stare too. Notice also that undead is tmmune to berserk too), Rampart heroes (Rangers) and units have high resistances, Inferno have Efreets, Castle have (Mass) Bless, Dungeon have Dragons. So only against Stronghold Mass Curse would be nasty. Also if opponent casts Mass Curse on you (IF you have Expert Water Magic) You can counter it either with resistance or spells like: Bless, Dispel and Cure.

What I state here is that Water Magic is superior school to Fortress. And with only three guilds and no good probabilities to get Air Magic (atleast Beast Masters wont have it often), Earth Magic is secondary to Water. And Fire Magic (sorry Ichon but Fire is the weakest of magic schools) is far from good.

how-

Equal heros mean same experience levels- so Castle hero gains att/def equally odds, Fortress gains mostly defence. So the AA's with modified, 6-6 att/def against Fortress 0-12 att/def plus a hero with armorer specialty and a good defense artifact in addition to the +6 advantage already and cursed- I think it's possible the AA's also suffered weakness from my flies, but I can't recall, anyway I'll test that, but it's easy to see why they did only 120 damage with the rest. One thing people don't notice about curse is that the minimum damage also works against lucky blows.

Oh, I agree that water is often a better choice for Fortress, I usually take water or air, but fire can be useful, of course don't take it if you are playing Necro, take air for sure then because Necro will have earth almost always. The reason fire is good is people don't expect it much, a mass blessed Fortress is rather common and people learned how to deal with it. Best scenario is expert water and fire,, but that is rare with a might hero which Fortress benefits from most. Also, I don't always use a Fortress hero with Fortress, Knights work well, as do Overlords. I prefer Tazar or Alkin, if I can't get either of them, I usually will choose another town hero.

I wonder why is everyone mentioning Fire Magic with fortress. Only way a beastmaster could ever learn it is a scholar or witch hut. Honestly I'd like to get Expert Curse with my Tazar, but thats not very likely now is it?

Or universitie

In general, Tazar must think how to protect against strong ofensive magic spells.

Otherwise in fast and poor map, where you dont expect high level spells with big power, yes - i agree with you, it would be very interesting to have tazar with expect curse.

This shouldn't work. Crag can't learn water magic in a university for example.

I guess it depends on how you recieve the skill. On a witch hut and from a scholar, you don't "click" on the skill to recieve it, but you get it immediately. While in a university, you have the choice, and therefore it is red.

Fortress is my favourite town because of Gnolls.
With Drakon level 30, none will defeat his Gnolls.

I think it's because of Adrienne.

With a burning desire to gain in power and to protect her homeland, Adrienne risked being a social outcast and hated by her own people to follow her passion.

As far as I know, she gets Expert Fire Magic at the beginning of every map. (I'm not sure, because I play almost always with DRAKON.

When I play with my friends, the one who has foretress (unless others are lucky with their spells) are also the ones who'll get first topias down.
Combining a few topias with the Rampart Treasury (if you should find such a town), you'll relative quickly gain enough money to build armies of creatures from both towns.

Oh and completely unrelated, I just played the Ultima Map, where I took down those 3500 Ancient Behemoths with the use of Berzerk + Slow + Forcefield + Implosion, only used a "fast" (faster than AB anyway) creature.

Reminds me of the map where you've to take down 300 AB in 5 months, but on cursed ground, I wonder if that wouldn't be a good team work map actually.
