Books/Script...
Surely movies need different things BUT I believe Lord of the Rings movie would have decent amount of watcher even without changing one female character from nobody to some kind of hero. And casting...LIV TYLER?! OK, he looks OK to me but sounds like...and acts like....so there isn't really reason to do that. Or there is one. MONEY. Nothing else.
And I think that's why I won't be joining the party and go watch the movie. Oldtimer used the right word there still it seems he is living under the threat of losing meals if he doesn't support the LOTR fans...

Here's a thought:
LOTR is going up against Harry Potter in the movie theaters! (This December, December, December...) It will be little lightning boy vs. the Hairy Footed Hobbit! Hmmm. Maybe Fantasy is making a comeback? Personally, though, I think Harry Potter is a joke! Let's see him take on Gandalf!

Yeah! I hate that little weasel Harry Snotter! Just wanna kick his ass every time I see his ugly face on some poster or on a book cover.
And Oldtimer, I think you heard that from me  .
I'm going to see the movie. But if they have the Lady Arwen running around doing menial chores, fighting the Nine and getting frisky with Aragorn, I'm going to...
Also anyone seeing the movie without having read the book(s) will not be permitted to utter any form of crtitque, be it praising or flaming.
I'm in the middle of my third read now (to prepare), and the story is just so great and magnificent.
I agree with (don't remember who), the story is good enough! The mainstream audience wont die from seeing one movie without sloppy romance and female charachters all over the screen. This ain't no Carlies Angels!

since I am the Tolkien-phreak of this board...
and after watching all three trailers and the teaser, I cna only say one thing...
...who cares about STARWARS? the LotR trilogy is going to be the greatest ever... at least I hope so...

You guys must be smoking crack if you think that any thing will surpass STARWARS! If you don't believe me just watch the LOTR animated film that was made around the same time as StarWars and use that as a fair comparison.

I really liked these films, so much in fact, that I joined one of those 'bleepin' video clubs and got all three LOTR movies for my collection. In my opinion, The Two Towers (2nd one) was the best. I especially like Aragorn (what a hunk) and Legolas isn't bad either.
