Original quotes

Have you or have you heard someone say something very catchy and meaningful that is not really in the mainstream or popular?

So I just thought of one... I hope this is a good idea, lets hear some quotes

Quote:
Never buy a chair until you sit in it first

Short story behind this one, I grabbed a chair off the internet 6 months ago, a little pricey but not as expensive as similar office chairs in home depot or office max etc. Long story short, I now realize its over sized, the wheels wont fit under most desks, it moves to freely on hardwood or tiled floors, it catches and messes up the placement of area rugs, and it even spins to the right on its own sometimes (Yes I am talking about the chair). Even though its not so much a bad chair, it just isn't right for me.

Anyways I said this and thought the statement is a good analogy for a lot of things.

P.S. Don't quote me on a rainy day

Yeah, internet shopping for something like furniture (and to some extent, clothing) is a dangerous endeavor. I definitely would never buy a chair without getting to sit in it.

Last week I ordered a pink raspberry polo shirt. I thought it was fabric but it turned out to be silky. I wanted a spring/autumn shirt.

here's one i was going to use to reply to someone here regarding their reaction to one of my posts not too long ago:

"Looking down your nose at something leaves your throat exposed."

i don't think anyone has come up with that yet, but i could be wrong.

But... it doesn't.

I typically look down so hard with my nose that my chin touches my chest whenever I want to protect my throat from a choke or strangle.

Rather:

"Walking around with your nose in the air leaves your throat exposed."

When you tilt your head up, you look down the ridge of your nose at people the way you would look down a gun barrel when holding a rifle. It makes the ridge of your nose parallel with the ground. That's why the expression is called "looking down your nose at someone".

thanks for explaining what i was saying. i thought it would've been obvious, but maybe it's a regional thing?

Was this your signature or something, because I remember reading it (probably here, not a Dilbert strip for sure) and loving it. This and someone else's signature from Isaac Asimov:

Those people who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.

Both belong in the regular quote thread though, not here, I guess.

Yeah, that's one of those quotes I like to use to spice up my signature from time to time. Just like this one:

"To each of us falls a task. And all the Emperor requires of us Guardsmen is that we stand the line and die fighting. It is what we do best. We die standing." -Lord Gen. Sturnn

Ok that's a new expression, I get it.

Mine's still better.

"looking down your nose at someone" isn't a new expression. like i said, maybe it's a regional thing, so that's why it's new to you.

and your version of my quote is only a ripoff of mine, and not "better" in the least. you're just rewording my quote; they both mean the same thing. try to be more original.

these petty rivalries are getting ridiculous.

Having your nose in the air in itself makes little sense, it is the act of snobbery by looking down on someone that needs to be underlined in the quote.

the quote speaks for itself. the phrases "looking down your nose" or "having your nose in the air" are one and the same, as far as what they actually mean. if there is need for clarification from a foreign standpoint, the one not understanding should seek that knowledge out. i would do the same if it was a foreign phrase that i didn't understand.

lol, are we really going to try and revise original quote's here? is there a certification i need?

not bad. but i'm not butthurt. the reason why i respond to you like this, adrius, is because you don't talk to me, and when you do, it's to say things that seem meant to upset me. how else am i supposed to react? jj's in the same boat as you. he tells me long ago that i should "consider myself ignored", and then when he responds to something i say, it seems meant to be rude, and nothing more.

it looks like you're going that same route, and now trying to act like i'm paranoid by my response. which is bull****.

Ahahaha... tumours.

@Fred: You're treating my everyday trashtalk like some kinda planned attempt at ruining your life, that's paranoia. I guess the lack of smileys contribute to the confusion, but me making up a pathetic quote on the fly and then hailing it as superior is just my humour, it's me joking about myself as much as taking a small jab at you.

I never noticed we had a rivalry though, neato.
