Finally the draw is done. Germany had a bit luck i guess. Could have been much tougher. Group C and Group E seem to be the 2 toughest, means closest groups.
You know what? I bet either Argentina or Netherlands won´t make it to the next round! Serbia was very strong in qualifying (recieved only 1 (!!) goal in 10 games) and Ivory Coast seem to be the strongest team in Africa currently.
Mexico had even more luck than Germany
Also Spain was very lucky with their draw.
Talking about the Group E (with Italy, USA, Czech, Ghana)..... They not only have a very tough group, also the opponent in the next round will be a tough one, coz they play vs 1st and 2nd of group F (Brazil, Croatia, Japan, Australia). So it could be a match between Brazil and Italy in 1/8 finals already..
And here is the bad luck of Mexico...
If they become 1st or 2nd in their group, they have to face 1st or 2nd of Group C, which means Argentina, Netherlands, Serbia, Ivory Coast......not too easy..

I´m looking forward to these championship, i hope we will get great games, and i really hope there will be again 2 or 3 "surprising" teams which will make it at least to the quarterfinals..

Brazil is a difficult one, Croatia is beatable but a draw is likely, Japan we will probably beat

hmmmm, that means that australia will get through. i am pretty sure a win and a draw is enough most of the time

germans got an average group. not real dominators but no real walkovers. i think it will be germany and Ecuador

england got a decent group. they should get through but maybe with a little battle from sweden and paraguay. i think sweden will also progress

argentina has a really tough group. i only really know players from holland and argentina but ivory coast and serbia should be tough matches. this group should have an upset or two. hopefully they will get through (and my pick for the title)

mexico and portugal. iran and angola have no chance IMO

close but i think italy and the czechs will get through

brazil, croatia, japan and australia. i think the winner of cro vs. aus will get through. if brazil beat aus by 1 goal then i think the fact that australia was close will be enough to give them victory against the cros. if they lose by alot to brazil they might be to morally demolished and not get through

Francia (france)
Suiza ?
Corea del Sur ?
Togo ?
france and...togo then

then spain and ukraine

cmon argentina. who do u guys think is gonna win?

Dont get your hopes up.. Australia is up against the world champions and two top-20 ranked teams. The last time we played Croatia we lost 7-0 and the new Japanese coach Zico(?) apparently managed to transform the team into a more formidable force. The only edge Australia has is in the physical endurance department... but when it comes down to technicality we are the worst. Pray that Guus will weave his magic once again lol.

Suiza = Switzerland
Switzerland was in the same group with France in the qualifying session already and made in both matches against them a draw.

Corea del Sur = Korean Republic (South Korea)
Korean Republic reached the semifinal in last WC 2002 (WC 2002 did take place in Southkorea and Japan), where they lost 0-1 vs Germany. They lost the game for the 3rd place against Turkey and ended up 4th (!!) in last WC. So u better don´t underestimate them..

well now!the groups are fixed!!
GROUP A
Germany
Costa Rica
Poland
Ecuador

GROUP B
England
Paraguay
Trinidad & Tobago
Sweden

GROUP C
Argentina
Ivory Cost
Serbia & Montenegro
Netherlands

GROUP D
México
Irán
Angola
Portugal

GROUP E
Italy
Ghana
USA
Czech Rep.

GROUP F
Brazil
Croatia
Australia
Japan

GROUP G
France
Swistezerland
South Korea
Togo

GRUPO H
España
Ucrania
Túnez
Arabia Saudita

Mexico has a good chance

EDIT: Change some names to english to make aculias understand a little

My predictions for the first round:
GROUP A
Germany
Costa Rica

Germany easily wins a weak group

GROUP B
England
Sweden

Paraquay could cause trouble here but England and Sweden are top-tier teams

GROUP C
Argentina
Netherlands

Tough group to call, but I think these two are the best teams in the group.

GROUP D
Mexico
Portugal

Mexico and Portugal have no problem defeating these weaklings.

GROUP E
Czech Republic
USA

Italy is overrated and should not have been seeded.  Czechs are a very strong team with arguably the best keeper in the world and several world class attackers.

GROUP F
Brazil
Japan

Defending champs barely break a sweat here.  Croatia is on the decline and I'm not convinced that Australia is better than Japan.

GROUP G
France
South Korea

France benefits from a fairly weak group.  They'll probably get bounced in the next round.

GROUP H
Spain
Ukraine

Spain easily wins the weakest group in the tourney.

My predictions are same as above, except for:
Quote:
GROUP C
Argentina
Netherlands
I wouldn't bet on it. I think only one of them will make it out. This is the most unpredictable group, so I'll name Netherlands and Serbia just for the sake of it.
Quote:
GROUP E
Czech Republic
USA
Many people say that Italy is overrated, but they still have some good players. With the right tactics they can put up some good games. I vote for Czechs and Italians.
Quote:
GROUP F
Brazil
Japan
No doubt about Brazil, but I don't think that Samurai will manage to follow their Warrior Code away from their homeland. It is kind of diffucult to make a prediction here, but I'll say Croatia will be the 2-nd team.
Quote:
GROUP G
France
South Korea
Same as above. France has one of the easiest groups. But since one of them has to make it to the next round, I'll vote for the Swiss.

Serbia's got a good team, but I don't think they'll get out of this group.  The Netherlands won a group that contained Romania and the Czech Republic, giving up only 3 goals in 12 games while scoring 27 and Argentina won one of their qualifying games against Brazil, tying them for first in South America (Brazil won that region on goal difference).

I think the USA can get past Italy because this is probably the strongest squad we've ever had.  Landon Donovan and Demarcus Beasley are world class players who will create problems for opposing defenses and the US defense is very solid. In addition, Italy is rebuilding and this generation of Italians has yet to show that they belong among the world's elite.  They also benefitted from a weak qualifying group in Europe (no one else in their group made it to the World Cup).

After looking at Croatia's qualifying group, I'd have to agree that they're better than Japan.  Going undefeated in a group with Sweden is impressive.

In France's group, that one could go either way.  Switzerland definitely had a tougher road to get to the World Cup, but there's very little I know about that team.  Who are their star players?

I don't think that Croatia will qualify from the group stage, Brazil and Australia will qualify. Croatia will be tough for Australia to beat, but we have a good chance of winning that game. Australia should be able to beat Japan, and a draw against Brazil will be a bonus, we will probably lose to Brazil...

I think what is important to keep in mind is the match order. If the first game gets lost, the pressure will be enormous.
The order is like this:
First named team in every group plays its first match vs 2nd named team, the second match will be vs 3rd named team, and last match will be vs 4th named team.

For example:
Group C

First Round:
Argentina vs Ivory Coast
Serbia&Montenegro vs Netherlands

Second Round:
Argentina vs Serbia&Montenegro
Ivory Coast vs Netherlands

Third Round:
Argentina vs Netherlands
Ivory Coast vs Serbia&Montenegro

So u better have a good start, or it could happen like it did with France in WC 2002 (NO goal in all 3 matches in their group, after they have lost first game vs Senegal!) or Portugal (didn´t make it to the 1/8 finals after losing to USA in first game).

Yeah, losing opening game makes advancing much tougher.  USA better be ready for the Czech Republic, who in my opinion is good enough to advance to the semifinals...Brazil should have no problem advancing to the quarterfinals unless they play the Czechs in the Round of 16.  Cech is going to be really tough to score on and if Brazil doesn't play smart in the back, Koller or Nedved could score some goals.

world cup!!!(at last...)

it has been four years since our defeat in the "grupo de la muerte"
so who knows what our fate will be now on germany?
i usually never post on HC, but we are talking about the world cup and i seem to be the only argentinian in the heroes community, so i had to say something...
first of all i think that although our grup is hard (netherlands and ivory coast) i think we´ll make it through...because we have excellent players, like messi, riquelme and tevez, and we no longer have the pressure of being the favourite for the cup(is it brazil now?).
anyway, now that its only a month away, everyone is talking about it. its like everybody stops their lives for a few days and unite themselves with a common goal..."aguante argentina!!!!"
and i dont think you see this fanatism and passion anywere in the world but in argentina and brazil...because as we live in third world countries and we dont have much money, futbol is what keeps a lot of guys alive(and im not exagerating...)

sorry for bad english

Sadly Denmark failed to qualify. And to make matters worse the tournament will be held in Germany and will probably not come this close for many many years...
But our qualification group was very tough including the european champions and the bronze winners from 2002 as well as Ukraine.
Sweden of course had a very easy group like they always have, but we'll see whos really the better side when we meet them in the 2008 qualification.

There is a new thread refering to the tournament itself now.
