What do you mean by "do funny things" and "blows up"? Also, what version of IE are you using?

Mozilla FireFox 1.0 on WinXP.  The menu expands to show me four folders, but if I try to open any of them, it tells me that I need a plug-in.  There is no music.  JavaScript is enabled.  The JavaScript console shows:

Warning: Element referenced by ID/NAME in the global scope. Use W3C standard document.getElementById() instead.

Who can and who can't see the tree menu navigation links inside the HC Menu? (It should say Age of Heroes, Heroes Community, MapHaven Archive, Tournament of Honor and you should be able to exand each one to see the submenu). Also say what browser you are using and whether your javascript is enabled.
Oh, I see it alright. Problem is, when I expand any of them folders, I see nothing more except an extra + icon thingy. And I can't close the folder I just opened, either. I've got Opera and just about everything enabled. Also, can't the menu get a fixed position? If you want to bob it around like that, then at least put it on the side so that it doesn't cover up text. Or the banner. Seeing all of the banner is a bit tricky with the way the menu thing behaves.

I have the last IE for mac that was made 5.1 They no longer make it. By funny things, I mean the HC menu
becomes so big, it takes over my screen. By blowing
up, I mean it quits before even the first page is
loaded.

Its my observation that things written in java script
for IE rarely work on other browsers, probably due to
Mr. Gates and his secret coders. IF you wish this menu
to work universally, you may have to find another way
to do it.

Question to those for whom it doesn't work: does it appear open or closed if you don't touch it and let the page load?
By closed I mean you can only see the "HC Menu" image.
By open I mean you can see the text and google search inside of it PLUS the HC Menu image and "stop music" link.

The menu is closed when it loads.  It stays closed unless someone disturbs its slumber.  Only then does it rise from the depths (briefly disappears from the top of the page in order to come up quickly from the bottom) and demand to be fed plugins.  It no longer insists on Apple Quicktime.  I don't know what it wants now -- when I tell it to get its own damn plugins (FF's 'Install Missing Plugins' button), the request vanishes.  The menu is never satisfied.

The Google feature embedded in the expanded menu does work in FireFox, although it isn't keyed to Heroes Community or Age of Heroes specifically.  I'm not sure why we'd use menu Google rather than opening normal Google in a new tab or window.

I like the new links that have appeared in the upper right-hand corner.  They're accessible and very easy to open in new tabs.    Even if the floating menu worked, I'd be more likely to use the links.  When there are choices available from a given screen, I prefer opening zillions of tabs at once rather than following links one at a time and using the Back button.  Normal links are more friendly to Mozilla tab junkies than fancy JavaScript.

Aside:  Would you like yet another thing on the to-do list, Val?    How about fun with random splotches on the reply menu graphics?

Yeah, that has been frustrating the last how many days. Has anyone reported this before now? I've kept from bringing it up because I thought the Who's Online problem would be highly noticable to everybody.

Why not just put the floating menu in a permanent spot
somewhere. Aren't IM's slightly more important?

You're probably getting sick of hearing from me, but...

This is from "The Way of the Paladin!" and appeared after I voted (for the H2 version ).  The "see results" button produced the same mess.  The most important omission is the inability to see how many people have voted.  This screenshot was taken from FireFox.

In Internet Explorer, the vote tallies work.  However, the bouncing black box now contains an Xbox under the expanding arrows.  It expands to show me the Google menu and nothing else -- the folders are gone.  The Xbox remains on the right side of the expanded menu, as well as the "Stop Music" option and the contracting arrows.  The graphics and folders still load in FireFox, although to no effect.

That music!  What part of the game is it from?  *bash head on monitor*  Does it change periodically?  This piece sounds different than the one that was playing before.  Do they automatically rotate?

I'm working on something big for HC, it will blow your mind

So have some patience and keep reporting bugs.

First priority is the IM system.
Second priority is other HC Menu bugs.

HC visitors use:
IE 6 - 67%
Firefox 1 - 22.4%
Opera 7 & 8 - 5.4%

Other browsers are less significant. I will focus on browser compatibility according to the statistical priority. Firefox compatibility is obviously essential.

The music and HC Menu background pics do change. Music is from HOMM2 and POL.
