The Heroes 3 creatures look the best in terms of shape. I think the H2 Griffin was a little too feathery and had an annoying squack, with emphasis on the latter. Indeed, the metallic Griffin looks powerful but bogus.

Also, I think it's neat how the H1 Griffin kind of looks like a prototype of sorts for the creature that appears in H3.

Royal H3 + no-armor H5 = perfect griffin. No vote...I couldn't pick one.
IMHO, griffins should a) have ears and b) be quadropeds. While I like the H2, H3, and unupgraded H5 griffins, none fit my criteria for the ideal. Technically, the H1-H3 griffins are in the rampant posture used in heraldry, but they stand that way in battle!
Edit, Nov 3: Soft, "proper" griffins.  Ubisoft should forget figurines of unfamiliar heroes and include griffins like these instead. Then I might actually buy this game.
Some heraldic devices use just a griffin's head; you need the tufts/ears to distinguish it from an eagle's head.

The closest one to what a griffin should look like is H4, simply a lion with a giant eagle head and wings.
But this doesn't look cool, and we can't have that.
The H1 one looks cartoony.. the H2 one just plain.
H3 does it's job of being royal.
I don't really like the H5 ones, the unupgraded isn't bad but looks too cartoony again.
I vote H3.

well, as most of u specified , I also like the h5 griffin, and again I go for the unupgraded version 'cause it just looks better...I really don't know what they were thinking putting that heavy suit...man I don't even immagine how it could fly with that thing...

ya , one more thing , I've started drawing a griffin , guess I didn't have what to do...and it's kind of big... guess I didn't tought that either, but anyway if some of u want to take a look just tell me so that I can scan it first

Man, the H3 & H5 ones were so hard to choose between. I have always liked the one from H3 (especially the royal griffin), but the one from H5 looks like it can actually do some damage to opponents if it attacks with the front limbs (all the other ones look like they have chicken legs) and the upgraded one has the metal on the claws which could do even more damage.

That metal can it's blocking its view. This will save you a few spell points

I'll have vote heroes III royal griffin and as for heroes V well ungraded looks good but the armour on the upgrade will make a great conducter for lightning bolt

I don't think that the suit is that bad, I think it's a bad angle. It's just some plating on the chest and face, obviously the weak spots.

No there's holes in the helmet just like in the helmets on humans.
Interesting point, mr niceguy. You said that the H5 one looks like it could actually do some damage... the griffin is pretty high up in the heirarchy of Heroes and is a good troop, but how it still doesn't look as deadly as the game gives it credit for..
Same for the Unicorn.. It's just a horse with a horn. Ok, and a bit of magic, but still.
