Why do I have the feeling you're just giving high notes everywhere except for my town?

...

Ok, here it goes:

Race: 7 (this faction doesn't have much appealing aspects to actually be called a faction, it looks more like a "guild" or something, but it is good)
History: 6 (half of the history is the personal life of Racchael, another pointer to "guild" factor)
Creatures: 8 (good creatures and such, yet they don't seem much fitting for each other, like if the creatures were pick at random. Still good anyway.)
Balance: 5 (Most of the balance issue here is that the creatures have abilities conected to H4, and also complicated abilities, they don't fit for H5)
Originality: 9 ( )

total: 35

Race: 7

As a concept, it's quite interesting: a race built around a central protector/creator figure (the witch). I would have loved to give you an 8 if the implementation of the concept would have been different, but unfortunately, this race just doesn't feel mightandmagicky for me.

Edit: I changed my 6 into a 7. This was the first town I rated and after polishing my rating criteria on 11 other towns I felt I needed to reconsider this rating a bit. Basically, I was penalizing you for some of your creature choices twice (once in Race and once in Creatures scores).

History: 8

Your race makes a smooth entrance in the world of Ashan. Very good.

Creatures: 6

I loved the idea of Witches helping creatures evolve. This reflects in your Originality score. Unfortunately, you didn't keep a constant line in implementing this concept, with just 2 out of 7 creatures corresponding (lerista and bindi) of which one (the bindi) does not integrate well in the Heroes atmosphere.

Balance: 6

Having no stats description, I can only judge from the perspective of special abilities, and I would say your race could use some strengthening up.

Originality: 9

Excellent original concept, too bad it didn't take a better form

ok..heres what i think

Race:8  Pretty good..some are just animals..and thats kinda boring..but your later creatures are pretty good

History 10: Excellent History.  I like how it corresponds with your creatures, and what your specialties are..i like it

Creatures: 9 Mostly good..some are just animals.  But your later ones are good..good descriptions.  They stick with your topic

Balance 7: I agree with Boogie man.could be a little stronger.  I think though its first few seem like will be mostly weak, but fast..with later ones strong.  I also dont remember any archers in there.  That would hurt

Originality 9  Good topic.  Some of your creatures it looks like you designed, so those are good.  So i like it

Final score: 43..Mostly good

Cavern
Race( 5+ 2)= 7 warrior hippies living underground.  ooooooookay
History(4 + 3)=7
Creatures(5 +3 )=8 LOL I want more homemade pix!
Balance( 3+4 )=7
Originality=9

This is the only faction so far that I’ve wanted to be a member of.

Total Score= 38

How I graded these:
Race (Originality [1-5]+Compatibility with HOMM5 universe[1-5])
History (How interesting is it to me [1-5] +Compatibility with HOMM5 universe [1-5])
Creatures (Originality [1-5] +Internal Consistency [1-5])
Balance  (are the special skills inventive [1-5] + Does it have a variety of flyers, shooters, walkers, spell-casters [1-5]
Originality (all the originality scores added up and divided by two.  This means that creativity counts twice. [1-10])

34 to go

Race: 9
History: 8
Creatures: 8
Balance: 8
Originality: 8
Overall: 41
Comments: The race and originality are imaginative aspects of the town, but a few of its elements are incongruent – Heroes are called ‘witches’, and the creek that runs through the settlement wouldn’t justify them worshiping the Water Dragon, in my opinion, perhaps the Dragon of Earth due to the desert/rocky environment and mining/jewellery creation. The history, while quite captivating, excessively concentrates on Racchael, and not of the further development of the Cavern after her passing. The creature introduction earnt you extra points, but the descriptions of the creatures themselves were a little brief. The line-up is quite well balanced, and there aren’t any major qualms with the abilities. Levels 2, 6, and 7 are particularly original. An excellent effort for creating the town initially from scratch, and a well-deserved score, despite the fact that the Academy Wizards already dwell in the deserts (though, I suspect, a more sandy desert compared to your rocky iteration).

Thanks again to everyone that took the time to vote for me, and of course, the judges who must have devoted their lives to this for a time.

I have updated the town a bit - had to for the OOC that we are about to start.  Should be fun, hope you all join up.

Anyway, I have tried to explain why the witches worship the Drag of Water (seened to be some confusion).  If Hydra or Val see this, could you please have a look at the "worship" section I added and tell me if this explains it well enough, or if you still think it is not relevant.  Ta.

Also, what is your concern with them being called witches?

To Kookastar

I think this is a quite nice town. You have listed some really weird units I never heard of ... and I am not sure if this would fit to Heroes too... I mean - just too original things that have never been seen in Heroes or just mentioned wouldnt do good to it. It would probably twist up the storyline and so... But besides, I am working already on my own plan for Heroes expansions (it has already got 24 pages in MS Word and it still isnt complete!) that will appear in the altar of wishes. So I stopped here to get some inspiration. And while I am here I can increase my post count a bit.

Thank you for your feedback Sindbad

I know what you mean... originality is a really bad concept
heehee

Thank you once again for your constructive criticism
{btw I a no longer working on this town so don't spend too much time on it  }

The connection between the creatures as well as the history of the witches in Ashan is all explained in the history. The creatures are based largely on desert dwelling plants/animals - more so until they were changed (the names especially).

I think if you actually read the whole town description, history etc you will see the link between the cyclopses, nomads, witches.

HAWK
Hawks vary widely - there are alot of different types, some dwell in deserts some nest in trees, and some nest on "rocky outcrops".

BINDII
Originaly called the "Spiny Fan Flower" an actual desert dwelling plant - {Scaevola spinescens}:
"Spiny fan flower is a long lived woody shrub that can survive for long periods without rain. It may drop its leaves in times of drought to conserve water.Spines which extend beyond the leaves, help protect the plant from leaf eating animals. A layer of star-shaped hairs covering the leaves, buds and stems form a protective insulating microclimate and reduce water loss."

{btw - they wouldnt actually live in the cavern - they take root in the rocky desert surrounding the cavern when not mobile

PUMA
"The puma lives in many different habitats including in mountainous forests up to 16,000 feet to lowland swamps, grasslands, and desert. " "The female will select a cave or other shelter as a spot for her cubs' birth."

NOMAD
Nomadic Humans

CYCLOPS
Presence explained in history, but I don't see the cavern environment as one that is far from their habitat in previous HOMM games.

Boudas/hyena = humans/hyena
hyena - striped
"This nomadic species is native to the arid savanna, thorny bush, and stony deserts of northern and eastern Africa, the Middle East, India, and southern Asia... Striped hyenas are primarily nocturnal, preferring to sleep in caves or shaded outcroppings during the hot desert days. Small family groups may exist in these dens..."

Lerista
"The genus Lerista includes about 60 species of small skinks specialised for "sliding" through sand and loose soil...Desert species of Lerista do not drink and their kidneys produce insoluble uric acid. They do not excrete water from their bodies."

These small lizards "lay 2–6 eggs in a shallow burrow", however the large adapted lerista in this town {as large as a dragon} live in caves instead of digging burrows... don't think that is too big a stretch of even a limited imagination...

btw did you ever play H4?

Originality is hard to come by too. That's why game developers make a lot of sequels rather than original material.

I still have something to tell you: I dont know if your creatures even go together - I mean imagine hawks, those flower thingies, nomads and cyclopses being allied in one town. And you call it Cavern, dont know if they are beings that could live in a cavern!

Thanks for the scientifical explanations (sorry I havent read the history) but I am still not sure how it would look like on the battlefield... Besides, i have played Heroes4. I still got it on my PC, but after it was reinstalled (some RAM or graphics card was infected) the graphics have slowed down. So I dont play it very often now, because I got Heroes5 on my dads PC. I could have mailed you yesterday, but the site was infected by some turkish warning! Have you seen it? Was really scary to me...
