Poll Question:
Smoking - Do we really need it?

I guess each and every person in the entire world knows about the horrible effects of chain smoking on your health. But this knowledge does not seem to mind almost every second person who smokes constantly and does not even think about quitting it.

Smoking can cause so many various deseases which can damage every organ in your body and ofcourse cause impotence.

What really bothers me is that smokers can be found ranging from all ages, from 9 years old children till old people at the age of 80+. When I see a child going to school and stopping at a shop to buy himself (and maybe his friends too) a pack of cigarretes it makes me want to jump on him take the pack away and throw it in the sewer. Imagine him chain smoking from the age of 10 lets say 1.5 packs a day, at the age of 30 he will have tubes stuck in his throat so he could be able to breath fresh air.

I admit that I smoked 2 cigarrets in my 22 years, yes I know thats a lot but I was preasured!!! It wasn't my fault!
I just tried to fit in with the guys but I realized it wasn't in my nature to smoke so I didn't give up to it.
When my friends smoke close to me I give them one of my "You should not smoke next to me or you will regret this" look and they immediatly go away and sit far from me.

I think that I made my point so you people just vote your opinions and ofcourse replies from fellow smoking haters are more welcomed!
All the smokers can reply too if they want its free of charge I guess...

I just didn't know where the forum option button was.
Its kinda hard being a virgin in poll startings.

I have no problem that the moderator moves it to the tavern. Once the poll is posted you can't edit it, and it is really crapy cause you can't redo your mistakes!

The real problem is that it is WAY off topic from these forums, you know. Not a bad theme, but a bad place.

Moved to Other Side of the Monitor.

I never smoked a single puff.

I read that part of the attraction in smoking is that people give themselves time to breathe deeply and just be outside and rest.

I, personally, had been pressured into smoking ciggies but every time I have just said no. First of all, it smells, secondly it leaves nasty stains on your body and on your clothes and thirdly it is just too freakin' expensive, and it's the tobacco companies and the stockists that should be charged with mass murder.

I know of a few relatives who smoke and also a few friends who have tried smoking due to peer pressure. Besides, there are other things to get addicted to (not gambling of course, gambling addicts are much like tobacco addicts).

sssssmokin'

never smoked, never will... its only wise to do so if you are allergic to cigarettes after all...

nobody dares smoke inside my place, they just go out if they want to, no matter the weather ...if my gf ever took up smoking, it would be a "me or it" situation, no excuses, no exceptions

that said, there are many reasons for someone to smoke ...first of all, it feels good (once you get past the suffocating feeling of the first few puffs) it gives the brain a kickstart and usually people enjoy this... and of course there is always peer pressure, but one that smokes because of this is a weakling at best

but as with most things, we humans know nothing of measure ...even a single cigarette is too much for the system (the same goes for anything that can be smoked)

So true.
Everybody should be allergic for cigarette smoke. It would make a whole difference in the world, however it could be bad for the economy.. Whatever, just ban it

I've never smoked and never plan to. Even though standing on the porch on your apartment with the other teenagers, smoking and spitting out the green stuff from your lungs is very cool, I was able to resist that.
Later on I noticed that when you are at the bar, it is very cool to hold a drink with one hand and a cig with the other. Well, I had np with looking like a loser with only a drink in one hand and nothing in the other.
Later on people start "quitting". It is also considered very cool to talk to the other smokers about how you PLAN to quit smoking and how you've TRIED to do it. You will immediately gain the understanding of a fellow smoker if you talk about the "quitting" topic. However, at that point of time I was old enough to realize that that's not even cool, so that wasn't even a challenge.
But what about smoking breaks and meeting new people while you smoke? Well, whenever someone I know goes out to smoke, I go with them and just stand there to keep them company and to get some fresh air. It isn't so bad and it is possible without having the need to smoke.

Smoking in airplanes - Anihilation of democracy?

So far only non smokers in the community! Good going guys! Don't give in to nicotine!

But however recently a good budy of mine that actually smokes (I have little of those) talked about the new smoking fighting system at airplane flights. The fines that are now to be given to smokers which were caught in the act is 500$! He told me that a normal flight lasts about 4-6 hours and as a smoker he can't go without smoking for so long. He also made a good point that he paid the full price of the ticket and he should be allowed to smoke as this is a free world. The rule says that there will be no smoking at all on the plane not even in the restroom or other secluded place.
I guess smoking does not hurt people physicaly and doesn't kill them on the spot...

So what do you guys think should people be allowed to smoke on airplanes? Is this really against what the democracy stands for?

Democracy = "the majority rule". That's the basic idea. If the democracy is working, the government should be making decisions based on what the majority thinks. If this doesn't happen to be what you think, then well... too bad.
As for me - I don't really care if someone smokes, but I know that some people don't take cigarette smoke very well and for their sake the smokers can hold off for a few hours. The smokers won't die from that for sure.

So what do you guys think should people be allowed to smoke on airplanes? Is this really against what the democracy stands for?

Nicotine withdrawal can be nasty.  Asthma can be fatal.  And, yes, smoke can trigger an asthma attack.

Even in a free world, people have to be considerate of others.  Planes are not large spaces.  Smoke in the bathroom can spread throughout the cabin -- the door opens and closes throughout the flight.  Your friend's discomfort is unfortunate, but the needs of LIFE-vulnerable passengers come first.  The ticket your friend pays for lets him into a small, enclosed space with hundreds of strangers.  The rules for air pollution have to be different under those circumstances, democracy or no.  If his addiction is that serious, perhaps he should consider an alternative nicotine method for the duration of the flight.

Secondly, I'm not sure how much democracy has to do with it, because I'm not sure it's the government behind the ban (at least in the US).  The airlines themselves may be responsible.  Allowing smoking on their flights can have reprecussions, ranging from liability should there be a smoking-triggered emergency on board, down to grimy looking cabins that need to be cleaned more often.

But the majority of the people wants to bann smoking for good and not only on airplane flights...
So why isn't the goverment taking any actions and forming rules that would make smoking illegal?
In my country smoking isn't forbidden even in public places (well maybe in some).
I think the big part is that the smoking industry has a big influence on the economics, the smokers are throwing away really enormous ammounts of money each and every year and the goverments do not want to hurt their economics.

Now the most important question:

Women smokers - "Come here Grrrrr..." or "Get the hell away from me!"

Doesn't really matter for me, a cig is the last thing I notice when I see a lady But I guess it would come into play if, say, I wanted to marry a girl - smoking would mean she'd get older faster, lose her health faster and would probably mean that she won't be willing to take good care of herself in the long run, not to mention that it wouldn't be good when she'll have kids.

Sure thing, when she will be pregnant with a child if she wouldn't stop smoking the child would be born a passive smoker !

And everytime she would want to smoke she will go out or farther away and you would be separated lots of times, it's a better couple if the both of them smoke or don't than only one smoker.

Is there some way to burn all the tobacco fileds in colombia so that the cigarretes price will go up and will be harder to get?

Who's with me on this one?
