I suppose a powerful caster (with sorcery?) would be a serious threat to conflux, due to all the elemental vulnerabilities

If I did in fact do this then it was a mistake guy. These forums are not exactly well set up for navigation and doing things like replying without quoting.  Not sure why I did not manage to snip the quoted portion out before hitting 'submit' but in any case...seriously guy? You think this was so insomnia inducing wrong that you needed to post here to complain/whine about it?!

Never really liked Conflux at all. I rather use them for story purpose. I felt like in Shadow of death the creators were lacking ideas and made and race out of the elementals that were left out.

But there is really another aspect. They have no ranged from the start. Only when the air elemental and water is upgraded they would be ranged. But the elemental weakness sucks on this. Weakness to fire and so on. But Ice elemental is another bummer. Its actual not so more powerful then the Storm elemental. They are almost equal with bearly no difference even when its lv 5. Unlike the castle race with archers and monks, in which they own everything.

But one nice thing. They have the uber Magic elementals. Immune to all magic. In my opinion more powerful then the phoenix itself. Just spam these and you win probably.

Conflux

No doubt, Conflux is most powerful town.

Advantages
-Fastest creature makes this town always attack first. Very big advantage
-Too fast town.
-Two sturdy shoter, two no retaliation unit, Three flyer, siege is very easy for Conflux
-Mind spell immunities, immune to death cloud attack, death stare, aging, disease, fear, life drain, posion
-No bad moral. This is good because freeze possibility is more high than extra move possibility.
-Conflux has best grail.
-Good native terrain.
-Good magic Heroes.
-Ballista is more good war machine.
-Very useful lvl 1, lvl 2, lvl 3, lvl 6, lvl 7. Also has most cheapest lvl 1, lvl 6 (800 gold), lvl 7 units.
-Mage Guil Level is 5.
-Very good special buildings; Magic University, Artifact Merchants.
-Shipyard
-Big growth rates.

Disadvantages
-Some magic vulnerabilities.
-lvl 4 and lvl 5 are medicore units.

Best Creatures
-Sprite, storm elemental, ice elemental, Magic elemental, Phoenix. Conflux has most effective and cheapest binary (lvl 6 and lvl 7)

Worst Creatures
-Energy and Magma elementals.

Special Buildings.
-Artifact merchant, magic university and shipyard. Excellent!

Bilding Order.
-Relatively fast.

Hero Classes.
-Elementalists are very good.

Good/Bad Maps.

Good for all maps.

Overall Ranking: 1

Another disadvantage is that the creatures are real expansive. It happens quite rarely that you can afford everything.

overly strong towns need some kind of handicaps, to help retain balance. Forge is the same way. imo, Conflux wasn't handicapped enough. there're huge benefits in that town, without enough of an issue achieving those benefits.

Meh, good only for multiplayer, suck great in single player. Take any good custom map, replace the starting town with conflux and you will not make it. No resurrect possible.

I think first attack advantage, mind and fire spell immunities, cheap and effective unites more important.

No need resurrection, because has huge growth and sturdy shooters. Better idea spend spell points for damage spells (meteor shower, chain lightning, implosion, fireball etc.)

No, you said ALL maps. This is not true. In custom maps, if you have even minor loses from one battle to another, is over. Battles are set up with 0 casualties in mind. Just try, dunno, for example, Unleashing of the Bloodthirsty, or Vengeance is mine, or To win for power, or many others. It will not work.

ok, not UTB as there you play with mixed armies.

Actually, Conflux is very good as starting town! You get storm elementals, which can deal a ton of damage, and have fast no retal pixies. Also, resurrection is mostly given early, but not immediately. Of course, as the game moves on, the army becomes more diverse... but yes, nearly no custom map  has conflux as starting town (at least that I know of)

Wonderful magic heroes. The main advantage they have doesn't lie in the one extra primary skill they have, it is in the fact that they all start with a basic school of magic

Well, since the thread was revived...
I think this observation is misinformed. In fact elementalists start with a magic school BUT their exceptions for magic schools are at each fourth level like any might hero and not at each 3rd like any other magic hero.
While I will not deffend it is better to start with Solmyr and his Sorcery skill then with Ciele and Water, it's easier to build Gundula or Dessa with four magic schools (no Magic Schools special access) then it is to get that with any elementalist (except if u buy them at Magic University, I mean). Just try it.
Btw, if you have the chance to get Intelligence (and maybe even Sorcery) pick it, due to having might magic schools exceptions with same kind of secondary skills distribution Elementalist is in fact the magic hero with more probabilities of getting a stupid skill while evolving; the thing is none of them starts with one while that can't be said about many other magic heroes.

For Magic Classes I like Warlocks, Heroes with Sorcery Specialty, Inteligence specialty is great on custom maps and of course Gundula and Dessa.

I like idea to have balanced hero. Mostly i go for 3 battle skills(tactics, offense armor/archery), wisdom, 2 magic schools(mainly magic combo is Earth + Water), Logistics and Inteligence/Pathfinding

This town is best; have 2 gold specialty hero and 2 estates skill Hero. You are always rich also dwellins are easy to build. Unstoppable town.

This town is "best" but only because of a few certain things:
1. Sprites - you can clear 1/4-1/3 of the map using only 1 Sprite per hero.
2. Growth rate of Pheonixes
3. Magic University
4. Elemental immunity
5. High movement

Alas this town is not unbeatable but certainly is powerful to say the least.

Even, the elementals are strong, you won't recover losses from harder battles, even Fortress or Inferno will keep pace with production with map progression.
