The first impressions seem to be bad, but I think it's too early to tell. Here's a page in Russian with Google translation (most of it is still hard to understand, but the screenshots are clear enough). Yet another preview here.
I understand there's a patch already? LOL

I'll spare you the chit-chat because half of what he says doesn't really concern the game. Here's the main points:
- Some patches were released even before the first official sales.
- The patches themselves are a pain in the arse to install (or sop he says)
- The menu graphics are an eyesore.
- The basic options are the same: Campaign, single, multi. Same three difficulties and three hero types (with Leader instead of Ranger).
- The game appears to be still buggy: it crashes after alt-tab sometimes.
- The fountain on the first game screeny heals your units.
- The battlefield... see for yourselves. The player is on the left and the hero (believe it or not) is the small gray unit on the bottom.
- Even on medium difficulty the game seems to be harder than usual.
- The skill descriptions are incomprehensible and incomplete.
- As seen in one of the screenies the game is still buggy and gives weird messages.
- The town options are exactly the same as they used to be.
- The screeny with a lot of of square icons is the skill... tree... kind of. You can only take the skills that are adgacent to the ones you already have. Happy expanding.
Conclusions:
The game is raw, buggy and seems to be exactly the old ones except for the battle system and skill tree. (HoMM 5 anyone?) It should be noted that the review was very emotional and can hardly pass as "professional", just a couple of first impressions (he said so himself).
I read the comments and although most agree with the author, some say that the game is raw and still needs to be patched for technical reasons, but gameplay wise it is not that bad and there are more than a few good reviews out there.
Screenies explanation in order of appearance:

-Hero screen (I see a lot of parameters there: attributes - health, armor, crit chance, attack, initiative. Characteristics - vitality, strength, intellect, dexterity, agility.

-Old fire magic attack
-close up on skill tree
-Weird warning message
-town screen
-skill tree

Most of the early reviews agree that the game needs work. It reminds me of H5 1.0, which was a mess. It took several patches and two expansions packs to fix it. I was thinking of getting the Russian version since I understand some of it, but I'll wait for a polished edition in English.

Gents!
As with most serious gaming projects, our (Russian) developers tend to deliver half-working product to local buyers. They just use them as massive and free QA team.
The same happened with King's Bounty, when World-wide release differed strongly from Russian one.

A bit off topic....
I remember they did that with King's Bounty : The Legend. It was out in Russia mid may but it took 6 months before it was released worldwide. I sure hope .daat and SF dosen't copy that with this game. I can understand that they need a few months to find overlooked in-game bugs and whatnot, but please not 6 months.
Still looking forward to a Demo though ( Russian or not ) ....

They are releasing a major patch adding three multiplayer maps and the hot-seat mode in february.

Also, they've released the first book which will expand the story (and how uber the main heroes are). It's called "Dragon's Talon" and made by some female writer, who happens to be obsessed with dragons.
And they've made a new silly contest with a book as a prize.

Disciples is the only game i know can compare to HoMM.
I like its battle system (1 unit per stack and no walking battlefield) more than HoMM's battle system

Damn. I didn't know there was a demo out for it. How is it? Hopefully not as bad as everyone says it is.
And why on Earth did anyone think it was a good idea to remove the Dwarves and Undead as playable races? Do we really need more elves in the world of gaming?!
