Let us take an exmaple WW2: Was it needed? It takes two to make a fight but it became clear that Chamberlain's policy towards Germany had failed. Did France an Great Britain have a choice? No, and today we're glad that the allies put an end to Hitler's regime. Of course it was a horrible war and millions were killed. But there was no alternative.
In modern times I think that the presence of nuclear weapons has prevented any major war from starting.
Is war needed? Unfortunately it is sometimes.

How the heck is it needed, it only results in death and destruction, and I dont think anyone wants that at all.
If someone does want that then send them into war and let them be killed, but honestly it really isnt needed.
There may be a one time thing where it is needed to take out some people in a massive population rise but even then that is just cruel and inhumane or inhuman to do that.

William, you are naive.
No one want's war but if you can't achieve things peacfully you have to achive them somehow.
For example, if your brother (if you have one) was kidnapped by the Guatamalian government, and talks didn't help, would you just say "uh, I don't care" or would you want the US government to send troops to rescue your brother? War is imminent in some cases.
Not in the case of Iraq, because in my opinion Saddam said he had biological missiles since the gulf war in 1990 but he never really had them, but take a country like Iran and you will see that if talks fail a war will be imminent in order to make the world a safer place for all, or North Korea for instance.
Human beings can't sort things out peacfully, never, they can kill over 25 cents, and they can kill over a stupid argument over a spilled milkshake. So how do you expect human beings to stop waging wars in the sake of their interests?

If the negotiations with Iran break down I only think the US or Israel (depending on which is the more patient part) will commit some strategic bombing. Bush will not start another Iraq.

I think Israel is better in strategic bombing, throughout the course of history it was proven, alhtough two days ago there was an intelligence malfunction... But, Israel, even though she has one of the best armies in the world, won't do anything without the support of the US, because once it does, I can forsee the whole arabic league attacking it and defending Iran. However if the USA will show presence, or at least suppot with the initiative of Israel, things might just work. Like the Time of Begin, where Israel bombed the nuclear reactors in Iraq, if it hadn't been for Israel saddam would have had nuclear weapons.
