Poll Question:
Has your favourite faction changed since HOMM5
Well a Poll, why not? 
This is in response to Val's The Ultimate Heroes 5 Favourite Faction Poll . I am curious if anyone's favourite faction from other HOMM series has changed after playing H5. I guess I tended to gravitate towards Sylvan because that was always my favourite...
So has YOUR favourite faction changed?
Please give reasons why/why not if you have the time...

Gogo Necropolis! Somehow, dual stacks of 1K+ skel archers and phantom forces is somehow kind of good.

Now that I think about it, I didn't have one favorite. There were three alignments that I really enjoyed--Tower, Rampart, and Dungeon, in that order. (Actually, lately it's been Rampart, Tower, then Dungeon.)
I haven't played Tower/Academy in Heroes V, but I played with my friend who tried it out. I don't like what I've seen. :/ I tried Rampart/Sylvan and I loved it.  And I watched him try out Dungeon, which seems pretty awesome. I think they'll be my second pick.
I highly approve of the changes from Rampart to Sylvan. When I used to play III, I would never take the Dwarves or Dendroids with me to battle, and after I got a strong enough army, I would leave the Centaurs at home, too. In V, I usually take all units except for the Treants. Yes, I'm a speed type of girl. 
Lately, I've been using Ossir and only taking Hunters and Druids with me. I split the Hunters into 2 or 3 stacks and split up the Druids to fill the rest of the spots. Seems to work wonders. This way, my backup heroes can actually have an army (with Unicorns and Dragons, no less!) to do stuff rather than sit around and collect resources! 
My only complaint is that the Treasury is gone.  But the Mystic Pond is still around.

Many things changed since H3. I never really had a favourite faction(maybe Stronghold), but what I can surely say is that I hated Fortress. H5 is much more balanced, even if at first it doesnt seem that way. I really think that all factions are great, and everyting comes down to how good you play with them. Here's a little thinghy i did:
Academy: 50710 power poitns + they can make artifacts for troops  (big time WOG style)
Dungeon: 52132 power points + elemental chains effects
Haven: 52064 power points + the training ability
Inferno: 50846 power points + gateing
Necropolis: 52041 power points + necromancy
Sylvan: 50434 power points + avenger and luck
The diference in power points betwen the first faction(Dungeon) and the last one(Sylvan)its only 3,3% which doesnt seem to be that much. Also every factions racial ability is well balanced and fits well in the story.
So... favourite faction? Yes: all of them!!!

Heaven (Castle) still > all. Training ownz, battledive ownz, marksmen own, Archangal kick ass... Only conscript&peapant sux . The old Halbredier were imba with Prayer+bless

My favourite faction in III was Tower (now Academy) with Rampart (now Sylvan) being my second favourite. In IV I loved the Sylvan even more, Faerie Dragons were quite the most exciting thing in the game.
In V I'm back to the Academy again. There are better Race-Specific abilities around but their unit structure is just perfect for me (shooter at top AND bottom level and lots of mechanical units). And I have always had a special soft spot for Archmages.
Although I must say that the Haven faction with its Training ability has made a difference; Conscripts really are pants, but hey it doesn't matter cos you can turn them all into Archers and then Marksmen at your leisure!

My Favourite in H3 was Tower, But now in H5 they,ve changed the looks of the wizard's armies. Tower's where alway surrounded by snow, now there in a desert. I also hate what they've done to the gargole. In H3 it was a real animated statue, now it's a floating brick. And my poor nagas have been abandoned for lion headed copy cats.
On the other hand, The golems do look better, and the genies look interesting if nothing else.

My faves in HIII were Tower and Stronghold... but Stronghold isn't around anymore I want my Thunderbirds and Behemoths back 
Haven't played as Academy yet but it looks really nice

Well my fave isn't even IN it, which.. psh dont get me started
But now I like Tower/Academy, which I didn't hate in H3 but wasn't my favourite. The golems and titans are just too cool in this new one.
I did like Rampart too, and the Sylvan isn't bad I guess.

except that, all sides are enjoyable. I like haven the most (once again, champions+angels+gryphs abuse ). The academy is also nice, but i don't play it, since it seems overpowered a bit. (I might be wrong tho ;P)

It's not... it's pretty powerful but in no way overpowered, if you want to be able to wholly use the Academy's power you're going to need obscene amounts of resources (for the mage guild and making artifacts for your creatures).

This is an interesting question which is fairly complex because people like factions for different reasons.
For example if you played Heroes 2 you are probably partial to the warlcok because he was so powerful and had those strong black dragons.
But maybe if you played Heroes 3 you might like the wizard with the powerful ranged assault which has been kept intact in heroes 5.
My all time favorite faction is the sorceress from Heroes 2 with super phoenixes and tough uni's and great druids.
While I don't dislike the ranger in heroes 5, defense and knowledge is kind of underwhelming. In heroes 5 I like warlock. So my favorite faction is in and I like them but they aren't my favorite.
Edit: Who are all of these posters in this thread? How come they don't come by here anymore?

Well i loved Stronghold in H3 but yeah unfortunately it wasn't included in H5, geee i just loved the behemoth... but i hope he returns along with the strongholdish orcs.
Apart from that i loved Inferno but to me they are stil underpowered... they are too vulnerable to dark magic and you have , or atleast i do, a hard time creeping with them (deleb doesn't count)
But Fortress is also really cool. Generally i like all the might factions except haven which i just find plain boring... they are to simple with the whole training palas abuse

Hehe I remember most. Others gave up on heroes and others are not active anymore. As for me...
It was castle followed by rampart on H3 and academy for H2, 4, 5. The competition was harder for H5 as I also love fortress, dungeon and sylvan. H1 I did not play enough to remember well.
I don't have a favourite, I just pick one when I see the game.

I liked Barbarian in H2 but Necropolis has been my favorite since H3. Now that necromancy has changed i don't favor Necropolis anymore. Perhaps Warlock for now but i have high hopes for Bastion that could easily be my favorite fanction in the future.

The Sorceress was always my favoured faction to play in Heroes II, and in Heroes III, I choose the Rampart more often than not (Conflux and Fortress come in second and third). In Heroes V, I'm more particular to the Sylvan and Fortress.

Haven forever but thank goodness they changed it from HOMM4 where is was insanely weak and Academy was way overpowered.

Hmm! My favourit faction has changed - HoMM2 was a mix of them all... Liking the weak ones, Castle and Barberian! HoMM3 Hmm? Barberian, fortress and Hmm... Necro, academy, Dungeon ... Yeah - Castle could go, rampart hmm! ... :S HoMM4 Barberian because of the different play style, no magic only might!
HoMM5 - they changed fortress a lot - BUT I LOVE IT!! But miss me swamp
