Major Problems
Before i explain this i want to let curio know how helpful these forums were when i was on my old computer, in which i didnt have problems, but i can not say the same for my new one. Look, i have read through the entire 24 pages of this, and have found similar problems to the one i am encountering. Each time I try to change the autoexc file it will not let me.It says i need to make sure the path and file name is correct. I am using vista, i tryed using admin powers, unchecked read only, and did the best i could to find the problem, but i had no avail. Please read this soon, as it is becoming frustrating. Oh, btw, i have an unpatched, unmodded version of the game. Thank you for any help i may get.
Edit: check page 23, i have figured out a way to get around the "path is not correct" saving problem and got the console commands working.

I have the same problem as Abowlarice.
I am using Vista, used Notepad, but in terms of differences with him/her, my copy is the Australian version of the game (although I don't think that really makes a difference) and I downloaded the latest 3.1 patch for TOTE.
I wonder why it's so easy for everyone else? lol!
When opening the input file from my documents, there are no problems concerning that. I can save the tilde procedure... but when trying to save into the autoexec_a2 file, it just won't let me. Help?

This is most probably something Vista related, maybe you don't have full access and modify rights in the folder you installed H5.

"swap teams" cheat?
Is there a cheat to switch to another (AI controlled) team?
I'm playing the comp and it's monstrous - I just want to see what it's setup is, whether or not it has the dragon suit, etc.
(The comp has 500 Titans, 1k Ghost Dragons, 1k Archlich, 600 Vampire Lords, 250 Crystal Dragons, and 4k(!) Wraiths!!! How in the hell did it amass such an army???)

Open the console and write:
@SetPlayerTeam(player, team)
Obviously, replace player with the player ID (from 1 to 8), and team with the team ID. These vary from map to map so I can't tell you which numbers you'd need, you just have to experiment a bit.

Thanks, I never did see that bit of heat code on the main cheat page. I'll experiment with it.

Saving after editing file
Hi, I'm new and I have read the page on activating the cheat console and Yes I do have the correct spellings, punctuation, FILES, and using notepad. (also read 12pgs of this help forum)(I do know some basic game editing stuff)
Here's the odd problem I've got. After I edited autoexec.cfg file, it does not allow me to save the file. (using just Save not Save As)
This is the error Im getting:
"Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Heroes of Might and Magic
V\profiles\autoexec.cfg file.
Make sure the path and file name are correct."
So I can go no further obviously if I can't enable the console. Oh and btw when I edited the other file in MyDocs, i edited and saved it with no problem.... I would love to know what is the problem, thank you for all your help.

Right Click the file and select Properties and make sure Read-Only is not ticked.

Gave up on reading the whole topic at around the 10th page...
sorry if someone already debated this.
But i've tried every suggestion i found so far, read the cheat guide back and forth, and i still can't make the console open.
- I'm on the TotE expansion (3.0).
-My autexec_a2.cfg (no other autoexec) ends with:
"// Startup
exec profiles\map-aliases.cfg
exec profiles\start.cfg"
- My start.cfg only has one line: "mainmenu"
I have input_a2.cfg both on GAMEFOLDER\Profiles\default_profile and DOCUMENTS\(...)\Profiles\Player.
- I'm on a portuguese keyboard the key above tab is "\" not "`".
I've tried changing the bind to "-" wich is right next to the right shift key. I've tried adding the schwinge password to pretty much every imaginable place. The start file, the autoexec, both, at the beggining, at the end, at the middle... Same goes for the key binding code. It's possible among all the permutations i might have missed the only one wich actually works. It's either that, or nothing works.
Must've restarted the game over 20 times. I'm starting to get too dizzy to type...
Has anyone here used cheats before on this particular version? Can you help?

This is so typical. The things you need are always on the last pocket you look, lol. After my last post i gave a look to the previous pages and decided to try Deacon's advice.
Did a lot of different things, so i'm not quite sure what exactly made it work. But this combination did the trick:
- bind show_console 'CTRL' + 'Y' (under //obsolete) on both input_a2.cfg files (game folder and documents)
- setvar dev_console_password = schwinge-des-todes (first line after //Startup) on autoexec_a2.cfg and (after mainmenu) on start.cfg
- copied autoexec_a2.cfg to Documents\(...)\Profiles\Myprofile\
Works only with @commands after that.
Thanks Curio for the awesome cheat guide and thank you all for this great thread.

Out of personal need i decided to make a PDF from Curio's cheat guide, so i could refer to it while playing offline (wich is often).
I'm uploading it for you to use aswell. Hope that's ok with you Curio.
Took some liberties on formatting the text, did some minor changes to a few phrases to that effect and added a page with extra information on unlocking the console, gathered from this thread.
Let me know if you want anything added or taken from it.
And if there's anything against having this online, let me know at once and i'll remove it.
Happy cheating:

With all the ID's and internal names in it this is actually a very nice modders resource. Thank you very much!

Those commands no longer function in later versions, they only did in earlier versions. Refer to the cheating guide for the proper commands.

Is it the @ commands? I'm confused. What if I want to add creatures.

Yes, those commands are the ones you will need to use. They only work in single player games, by the way.

I was looking through the guide and fail to find the internal name for the Demon Sovereign. Can anyone help me identify it?
