QP Hunting
I noticed in a few threads lately that people don't understand so well what is meant by QP hunting, or at least how we see it.
When we speak of people making a ton of new threads just hoping to gain QP's, it isn't neccessarily a negative thing. If the threads that are created have value, it's great! But when the threads are a series of copycats of other threads that did recieve QP, and when we look at the forum and see they were all started by the same person it tends to be an annoyance.
Generally when we (we being any member) see a forum flooded with 1 name as thread starter for everything, we're less interested in reading.
It's preferable from my point of view to see a person take the time to create a great new thread, and stick with it - to keep it going and become something great. Not for a poster to start up a dozen new threads and never look back at them except to see if they recieved a star.
When it comes to asking mods for QPs, it's true that sometimes we miss things - the asking in itself is really not the worst crime. However, when we recieve message after message from the same person with links "read this", "how about this", "check this post, I need a star" etc... it really kills our interest, and becomes a real pain.
Plus, usually the people who do this don't just get one of us - they target all of us - and we mods do talk. So when someone says they got 10 messages from member X asking for a QP, and the whole squad pipes up with "me too!" it's pretty easy to distinguish that person X is in fact a QP Hunter.
I know its nice to gain red stars, and I know that we say that members should look to other posts that have recieved QP's to see how they might recieve some themselves - but this does not mean to just copy those threads and toss as many copies as you can across HC.
Its come up before about looking at a person's motives for posting, and it's been said that we can't really know for certain what a person's motivation is. That's true enough, but we have also seen enough different posting patterns that we can generally recognize a QP hunting post/thread. And sometimes even if our gut reaction is "ughhhh, another one" sometimes those hunting posts are so good that we have to give it a star anyways - so I am not saying stop trying to earn QP's. My point is that when you are on the hunt, try to put some effort into making posts/threads that actually mean something to you, and that you think will truly be a good addition to our community.
I can only speak for myself but here is what I look for when I'm looking for "quality"
I look for honesty, people who are being themselves and posting what they are truly thinking/feeling.
I look for posts that keep a good thread going, and topics that can start people on the way to making those great posts.
I look for thread starters to stick with their threads and keep them going.
Hope that helps with some of the questions.

Are we allowed to ask you once, as long as we're not spamming you, without you being less likely to award a QP?

Hey Pan, keeping gorgeous?
@ Miru, speaking from experience, asking once is fine. But just ask only one mod and dont pester. Just a simple
"Hey, what did you think of *thread here*? Was it a quality post/thread or is there something i can do to improve?"
Most mods are always willing to help members out... well all mods i guess.
As for our qp hunting issue. As you said Pan, theres good qp hunting and bad qp hunting. Good qp hunting is when members post thread after thread of funny/looong threads in an attempt to make a mod laugh or think so hard that they just give a qp to ease their headache. This kind of qp hunting is ok, at least members are posting funny threads or things that are worth reading.
Bad qp hunting...
"Oh wow, *member 1* got a qp for doing a qp guide in the glade... hmmm, if i make one in the Tavern, Other Side, Other Games, Library... i should get 4 qps!!!
Seen it done sooo many times, especially recently. Thats what really annoys people. If you do things like that, you should do it to benefit the community, not to profit with some red stars.
The Codex of Axeoth, which took me and The_Hydra a fair while to compile, was never made to get qps. It was made in response to a need, which was annoyance at new members asking the same questions.
Threads like this should only be made if there is a need. Because if there isnt a need, why are you making it... QP'S

I have stopped my qp hunting and I have told a few mods about that.
I would really like to get qps but my hunting has stopped.
Im now striving to beocme a better member here, and show everyone that im not really a bad, annoying people that peole seem to think I am.
Im going to show everyone, but it may take some time and some work but in time I will eventually pull it off, and become a good member.
Is this what you all want from me?

Miru, asking once really isn't a bad thing, especially if you're asking for contructive criticism/input. Its incessant hounding that really gets annoying.
I've never had my view of a poster become tainted from one simple request, its when I get them after just about everything they write

About A Qp In My Own Words
As I see it, Heroes Community is practically built on fascinating, imaginative, and inspiring people. There is no small amount of character to find here. I happen to love a person who seems to fit into their own niche in life; someone who is well adjusted and is enjoying themselves here at Heroes Community. To be well adjusted means that you are your very unique self; something to be very proud of and loved for whilst continuing to play nice with the other children/members. There is room for the "bad-boy" types here as long as they follow the rules. As I said I love a good character. Characters come in all shapes and sizes, with their own take on life, their own special contribution to the world, and the ability to uniquely inspire others who might feel very much shy and uneasy to speak with complete strangers. If anything, I say we need more character and less Qp. There is, however, no room for those who would abuse the system. Some people are often turned away by selfish egotistical inconsiderate people who enjoy verbally assaulting other "weaker"(as they might put it) members for their own sick and twisted pleasure.
If I were moderator then I would award it for the post or thread in context with what I've read about that member up to that point in regards to the character I feel they've chosen to create and build upon here at Heroes Community. It's character that makes this place so wonderful and Valeriy's rules do an excellent job of keeping it in order. If we want our community to flourish then we must seek to secure its greatest treasure: those members who make this place the most enjoyable and memorable.

Yeah right!
There are lots of people hunting both red and yellow stars. It's a pitty people do that. IMHO this thing ruins the spirit of HC. I remember my first contact with HC(hail to Google). Didn't know anything about stars(I never bother reading FAQ's) and didn't care about them, just like I don't care now.

this is off topic but there are a lot of quality posters with no qps, or just 1 or 2 after being here for a year. maybe im wrong. Or maybe my idea of quality is not popular.
I guess my 4 stars is understandable since im here almost 5 years (had a few more qps, but negatives also) but there are many good quality posters with not many, or any qps at all That is fact

I don't see the hype in the kind of obsessive hysteric qp hunting that goes on in some member's heads. I mean as many as you get you'll still want more. except for that 20 post thing, god that would have been annoying but I think I just got past the limit of Honorable, maybe one over not sure, but then its like 8732 more until you get the next title, and that can take years. it's just not worth getting stressed over, and losing sleep and valuable time that could have been spent on paying xbox rulez and being god and sending hcms on that note I want a whole bag of qp's please.
