4th of July is my favorite holiday I LOVE fireworks

So what's Bob Dole up to these days? He's from your neck of the woods.

*sigh*

Poor Bob I wonder what he's up to these days. Folks like him never seem to get old. Even though he is really flippin old, I never think of him like that. I've always liked him and I'll always remember his candidacy against Bill Clinton. That debate was awesome. I still love him in my heart and I think he's a good American.

I miss him also. I think he may have been the last of the old republicans before the idiots took over the party.

I think his biggest mistake (in hindsight) in the campaign against Clinton was when he decided to leave the Senate. It seemed like a good idea at the time because he could dedicate himself to campaigning. But as soon as he did that, he lost his identity with the people, he became just another "also ran".

The people always saw the image of him at the press conferences as Senate Majority Leader. He always came across as very competent. But most importantly, he came across as non-partisan and a deal maker who could work with, and be respecteed by, both parties. He never cut down the other party and treated them with respect. He came across as in charge, but fair. When we left the Senate, he lost that identity.

I Respectfully Disagree

I think he lost because of his inability to connect a single message to the American people, Medicare and Social Security. Every time he said, "I was there in the trenches fighting against Medicare and Social Security, fighting the good fight".....A wave of nauseau swept over me, it left me reeling with agony and pain in my gut. I would answer back to the television 'No Bob they are programs that only mean to help us but we need a Healthcare Hamilton to sort them out'. Hamilton, an economic genius, was the first American President to ever balance the budget. Of course we all know today, far in the future that Dole was right, but when he kept putting it like that it made those programs seem like pure evil or that the Devil himself had instituted them. I still, even today, do not feel like they are the Devil's brainchild. I think there is a lot of merit in those programs even though we now know them to be deeply flawed. That's what he should have said. He should have simply said they were 'flawed' rather than portray them as the enemy. And I believe most other Americans agree with me.
