Did Heroes 5 rekindle your interest in playing the earlier versions?

I have the whole collection of Heroes 1 through 5 and even though I know once all the problems are fixed I will come to love Heroes 5 as much as the others, it has so many problems that I have found myself replaying Heroes 3 and 4 a bit. I even revisited Heroes 1 and 2 for a couple of hours just for a bit of nostalgia ( they're still great games! )

Has anyone else experienced the need to remind themselves how great the series is by replaying the earlier versions?

Has your interest in playing multiplayer versions of the other Heroes games increased?

what i hate about h5 is that its a constat reminder of how 3D0 did a self destruct by making mm9 sucha crappy game comperd to mm8and downer
and ppl stoped buying, and not only they killed everything tenyears (or more?) sirouse gameing strugled to build, they didnt explain the story,(why did it died? what happend to antagrich?) Heroes is nothing without might and magic, and vise-versa.
when they killed it officaly and explained inh4 it was way of no return, but even ubisoft killed it more, when they said the'yll make a completly new story, for both h5 and that other crappy crappy game, massiah, what ubi doesnt understand is graphick isent sucha factor.
Story plot comes first, esspecily if its somthing that other players played for years..
so what if it has some Sci-fi.
whats not a good RPG fentazy game if it dont have some sci-fi.?
ubi should ressorect old MM and Homm,im sure it'll give them much more clients.they could atleast "explain" h5 without killing MM story, prior to h4\mm9.

i agree too much emphasis is on graphics now and not enough game play. There are way too many bugs and imbalances. All that time to make those extrem graphics should have been spent fixing bugs and making "extras" like a couple new factions and new world map buildings that do cool stuff. That was my favorite part about hmm3 is all the cool buldings to trade artifacts for exp. for expample. Story and game play is what makes homm a good series not the graphics.

They had little choice in the matter.Antagarich was ruined and Axeoth was not as interesting. From the heroes we loved others died others aged and the series needed a fresh start. If they had continued the campaign on the previous settings they would risk being considered unimaginative,no brainers and would have to create a reason why factions changed which would not be as believable no matter how well presented. Also the chance of getting a new interesting faction was low apart from the cliche 'an evil alien race has come to our world to cause destruction and a good one to lend us aid'.Perhaps I would expect more from the current campaign but RoE was not the best too.We have yet many things to see and this new brave world can provide it for us.Hope remains.
A reason I would want to play an earlier heroes version would be the quick pace as well as simplicity of turns and combat, some old favourite monsters/heroes and of course a dose of nostalgia.Alas I am pretty fed up to play them AGAIN.Well I did finish H2 campaign but this was pretty much it.They have a place in our hearts but we cannot keep playing them;the time moves on and so should we.

I would also like to add that in this new world there is mystery whereas on the old one there was none to be had.We knew almost everything and the scenario was circulating on the conflicts of factions.I loved it but
a change had to be made to avoid becoming like a soap opera.Plus we can hope to see interesting factions that fit this setting as the faceless and nagas since the classic factions have been adressed(except barbarians).

As far as I know 3do was fine before H4 was created.(I could be wrong though)It was then that Jon Van Caneghem decided that Enroth and Antagarich were to be wiped out permanently so that he could start anew All the places we had known for so long, the campaigns we had played just went in the recycle bin.Personally when I saw the H4 intro and understood what was about to happen I was demoralised...I felt as if something dear to me suddenly turned to dust. And the new world couldn't even come close to the old one. Then things got nasty for 3do and the expansions came out with no ties to the original campaign and poorly designed. Some CAMPAIGN maps in the Gathering Storm just looked empty...I didn't even care to finish Winds of War.I doubt something like that will be allowed to happen again with H5.

I go play some of the previous games now and then. . . I can't let my HoMM gameplay from those just die. I only have HoMM 2 (PoL included), HoMM 3 Complete and RoE, and HoMM 4, which I recieved with my Limited Edition HoMM 5. I have yet to play 4 though, until my curiosity gets the better of me.

By the way, do you still have to download patches for HoMM 4 if it came with HoMM 5? I'm just wondering.

And are you sure that 3DO's failing games weren't just Heroes 4 and M&M 9? There should've been other games as well.

I also agree that games are getting too much into the graphics sterotype, and that games are being released too early.

It will don't worry!

Some came out with a couple of changes(check equilibris) but the game is fine as it is.That is unless you consider it unfaithful to other heroes games.

I don't see MM9 as a failure, true that it appears rushed, and there are many bugs, but people didn't like MM9 because it was rather like  FPS, where your mouse always stays in the centre of your screen, it stops us holding down the "A" button and dodging around like we used to do in the previous MM games ... personally, i really didn't like MM9 either, they got rid of the elemental spell system... but the game itself wasn't actually a failure...it just wasn't to my personal tastes...
MM9 had really really good music, in fact, it's music is probably better than all the other MM and HOMM games...(even better than H3!)
What probably made 3DO declare bankruptcy was 2 reasons:
1. Lack of Marketing!!! Many people actually don't know about the MM and HOMM series....., they've all gone to play much more highly publicised but inferior games like the FF series...
2. Piracy! The piracy of games such as H3 on a massive scale probably contributed as a major factor to the destruction of 3DO. Shame on those people who have never had a real version of a 3DO game!

This pretty much reminds me of how much games that we don't know 3DO has created...
do you know that 3DO created the world's FIRST MMORPG?
it's called Meridien-59
and the game is still running, i believe...
and then there was the chronicles series, army men 2, crusaders of might and magic, lots of old and forgotten games that no one probably played...
3DO is just well known for the HOMM series (even the MM series is barely known...!, even though i love them )...
