Yes, yes yes. I lkie this idea! Hmm... come to think of it this was something i put in a post. I got to find it.
See if there can be weather then there can be the aftermath of the weather. Like blocked roeads from a thuderstorm which knocked tree down or high moving penalties after a snow storm which covered the land or imobiliti on water after the lake or river froze. Think about it!

In response... I think that 'natural' disasters could definitely add an element of the unknown to the game. But what would they effect? A storm could increase the fog of war. A blizzard could reduce movement in an area for say-- about a week. An earthquake chasm could make an area utterly unreachable without magic. And what about spells that attack other players' resources? An adventure spell or spells that could inflict long-range havoc on your opponent's ability to develop their castle and purchase troops could definitely make spell-casters more versatile. Armies can 'raze' the land and mines and make them unable to produce anymore resources. Man, oh how I wish I could have gotten here sooner...

they don't have to be...
They can be like fires and earthquakes, those were some examles.
More example:
Wild fire: Spreads fast, starts in forests and plains destroys everything in it's way(creatures, heroes towns). Can be stoped eiter by a spell or fighting it(fight fire elementals)
Earthquake: splits grounds, blocks roads destroys or damages thing in affected area.
Flood: Again destroyys or damages things in its way, gives big movement penalties

I know I just commented on the same thing last week!? I think it sounds good but after a while it just becomes a pain and if you have the option to turn the weather off you probably will.

Sounds interesting
This feature would be cool, but when someone built at least a house and saved a lot of gold for it, it can be frustrating to lose it...
Desasters are ok, if they are logical (thunderstorm, fire, etc.), but how about this: If you got more houses, the chance of a desaster increases.
But not that way that every week does something happen. That'll miss the point.
I think, it would be nice to add this feature.

Dear Titan:
Armageddon is not and should not be a weather thing. It's when your opponent brings a big effin army to your last castle. As for weather effects, they could be done in much the same way that plague was done; on the first day of a new month and only a small chance of it. I'm thinking though that random weather effects shouldn't have that drastic of an effect on a Castle, just the terrain. And I still believe that there should be a way to attack your opponent's resources.

Dorkiest idea ever! ! !
How about pouring rain and Titans stuck knee deep in mud?
Or Dendroinds growing pretty pink flowers, under the blessing touch of rain!
And entire armies skating from one town to another!
And goblins fighting the blistering cold with a bottle of Vodca by their side!
Jesus Christ! Get real LordTitan. Or should I call you WetLord?

its Vodka and Titan i think that Armadggedon should be a "weather thingy" only when cast on the adventure map it harms everything within a certain radius (including your army) and damages wandering monsters/other heroes and their creatures depending how experienced and/or how tough they are.
Another thing possibly have alternate terrain objects.
Ex: if you were to cast armageddon in a lush green forest (adventure map) the next turn or when the spell is finished the green trees turn into burnt trees or the surrounding area becomes another land type (lava or desert)
What do ya think?

An idea on this thread which so far hasn't been discussed is the idea of storms. Not so much in the sense of disasters and wrecking everything on the map, just something like the fog of war.
As you scout in HoMM4 you will no doubt be able to see. LOL if that wasn't the most obvious statement of the day! I'm starting to feel like that old guy who talks on Formula One!
The fog of war is not exactly a novel idea and I've no doubt in my mind that it will be one of the more annoying (dismissing the fact that players seem to welcome it's advent) features of the game that will be switched off after one or two games.
So I think everyone in HoMM4 will be left with the old HoMM3 style exploration of the map. The areas you visit will be permanently illuminated with those unexplored areas remaining solid black.
Something like a storm though, can sit over portions of the map, and 'hide' everything underneath from a player's view, even if he moves another hero into the storm. As long as it doesn't blow itself out, the storm renders that part of the map hidden and even moving through it will not allow you to see what's underneath it.
Not ever being able to see underneath a storm cloud creates fantastic potential for hidden heroes and a new way of stealth movement. Storms can move around the map just like wandering monsters or at least until they run out of energy (in which case at the start of your new day, they're no longer there and everything it had 'hidden' before can now be seen).
Imagine trying to move around enemy territory under the cover of clouds only to have the wind blow it all away and leave you fully exposed to the eyes of the enemy...

I'm not sure is that post still there...
But our dear Mr. Incubus once posted huge post about storms and what happens with them. I remember that maybe Arachnid also contributed to that thing.
However have to go back there between the shelves and find Unk first to tell if there is such thread...

Sorry. I remember that thread as well (even posted on it). I think it may be one of the ones that got deleted by Incubus, because I didn't do anything with it. I searched the Tavern and the Library as well, just in case it got moved. NSL
I vaguely recall a very early thread in the archives that also had a discussion of weather effects in it, but it apparently is one of those threads with a title like 'Some ideas' or something equally non-intuitive. If there's a hue and cry for it, I can go back and look, or ask one of those heroes who've volunteered to help scout through tthe Archives to see if they can find it.
