Poll Question:
xxxTHE POWER TO DELETE POSTSxxx

Hello everyone,

I would like your opinion of a feature that I would like to see @ HC. I got the idea for this last year, while I was managing the MYT Game and getting frustrated that members were not respecting my wishes to have certain types of Posts in one Thread, and other types of Posts (i.e. spam) in another. The same issue also came up in a few of my other Threads; so before I get too involved in HCs Got Talent, I want to see if this can happen.

After reading about Sponsoring your own custom HC features, I decided to put my idea in motion. And as Valera requested, here is the mandatory Poll to get feedback from the rest of HC.

Please answer honestly and feel free to offer suggestions to improve my idea or how it could be implemented. You can also share your opinion of my idea and support/criticize it as well.
The question is:

Would you like to have the power to delete any Post in a Thread that you started...whether your own or another members?

I agree with this.
But this idea would not need to happen if people actually posted the correct things, and I know that I have done the wrong posts in some peoples threads, but often I see good threads have crap posts in them, mainly off-topic which ruins the whole mood of that thread (sorry to swear but it was not directed at anyone)
But I think that the thread owner should be able to delete any posts made in their thread.

I am not sure about this idea, I mean I think it would be tempting to delete posts of members that maybe you don't necessarily like {the posts I mean}...

I can see your point with contests though... I wonder if you could get temporary power for that forum?

How about if all competitions are kept in the Coliseum and all thread starters there have that power.

Just my opinion.

The main reason this feature has not been implemented is likely the feature's ease of abuse, especially in VW topics, some of which have tended to birth conflicts as of late. If there is a post in the wrong place or an off-topic post in a certain thread, you can simply send that person an HCM explaining this issue and ask them to delete/move their post. If they do not take action within a day or so, just IM a moderator for that forum and he/she will remove it for you.

Granted, it's a bit less expedient than the feature you outlined, but I just feel that the power should not be granted freely. Perhaps it could be given as a reward for obtaining certain number of red stars if it were to be implemented.

I will abstain from voting, but you can chalk me up as an 'Other' choice if you want to maintain the thoroughness of this poll.

EDIT: Another option could be to enable it only for certain threads which require such maintenance or threads that have been awarded QPs.

I have another option that I would like to propose for this Poll (that might be better for all), but since I cannot Edit the darn thing, I will simply have to put it here:
I would sponsor a "checkbox" at the bottom of a Post that if selected, would flag it for a Moderator's review. This checkbox could either be visible by the Thread-starter, exclusively, or by all members.

Some people may be a little upset or angry about the things you said in bold.
I for one would not like this to happen, I mean having to have a couple of stars and then being able to delete the posts in your thread.
That would anger some people, including me.
It is a nice idea, but alot of people will not like that, just like many people do not like the 20 posts in 24 hours limit thingy.
May seem like I am whininging but I am not, just stating facts here.
Maybe make it that if someone has been given a qp in a thread you make, then you cannot delete that post, but you can delete posts which are not awarded with qps or are like spam, off-topic posts.

They already had your ideas implemted when another member made a thread & requested the mods to delete any offtopic.

If your talking about any random thread or threads you make then count me out.
I want to feel free to say what i feel.
Any MEMBER who has the right to delete other peoples threads is total crap I think. It's a mods job to clean up & I think you should ask a mods permission to have them delete any offtopics in your thread.

Members should not have this kind of power because i know what people would do with it when they gets angr

Edit: Plus you would be getting rid of all tossers
Seriously though, you are totally turning this place to a babysitters for adults.
It's already like this with some mods.
If this happens, that means it will be one way or the high way.
Any disagreement & boom deleted.
Any tossing boom deleted.
Spam yea but not all is bad.
This is one of the worst ideas ever because people will hold too much power & you take away our freedom to type on here.
People have rights.
Say I had a problem with someone & I make a reply & he simply deletes it.
Say because someone simply dislikes another & he makes a reply which is on topic & he simply deletes it.
See what i mean, you give us too much power.
People are different & it will be hectic if this was implemented.

I agree, Manuel!

That is why I suggested that a checkbox be used to alert a Moderator, instead of my original idea. Unfortunately, I can't Edit my Poll to reflect this new option.

Maybe I should be sponsoring that idea, eh?!

It would be funny to see a check mark in everyones reply lol.
but there got to be reasons.
Orless it's pure crap & spam that need to be deleted.
I think a reply being checked need to be talked out because it could be fair to you but not the other person & it could cause a flame

Edit: ALert well I hope only the mods can see it & not the members .
It would be a flame also because it would be insulting to them on what I mentioned above

I approve the checkbox option where you can request a mod to delete unwanted posts in threads you started. (that only shows up on mod's computers)

Our captain has been missing of late with other way more lucrative endeavours, so I am guessing that this will most likely come to naught.

And how do u want to prevent some "funny" guys / girls from flagging ALL posts to keep a moderator "on track"?

To be honest, I don't see the need in that. I'm pretty sure every posts will be noticed by at least 1 moderator, so he/she can react on it. You often have the problem, a thread starts to drift into an offtopic direction pretty slowly. Once it will reach a point, where a Mod interfers and says "Please stop offtopic discussion", and it will (hopefully) turn on topic again. But it would be very hard to decide which posts to delete to not destroy the whole discussion.
It's quite easy to do in forums like the library, but very hard in real life topics or in tavern.

We have a "Feedback" thread in many forums here. These are the places to post your "alerts". Be it offtopic posts, or CoC-breaking posts.

I voted a qualified yes.  That is, I believe I'm one of a handful here who is responsible enough to have such authority.  The rest of these jokers can pack sand.

I can assure you that I have no issue with someone flaming my work or even me personally.  I enjoy scrapping, jabber-jawing, and accusing TNT_Addict and his circle jerk of fanbois of being cross-dressing pantywaist emos and would never dare delete their responses to any of my work after I've ruffled their fluffy feather boas.

What has vexxed me in the past is that on at least two occasions we've had visitors from some insignificant eastern bloc country sound off about how stupid americans are, what kind of a knucklehead George 'Dubya' Bush is, and oh, how their country invented sardines on triscuits and we should all worship the accomplishments of their ancestors.  Actually it happens more often than that but that's besides the point.

The point is that on these two occasions these bozos actually took offense to the responses(I can proudly say I was solely responsible for one and on top of that said thread creator made a new thread declaring me a supremacist and why hadn't the moderators smited me for my cruel words) and deleted their entire thread.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who has experienced this.  Now in some areas of Heroes Community this issue has been addressed.  For example, the creator of a thread does not have the authority to delete their own thread on the ToH side of the house.  I know.  I tried.  And what happened was I had to throw myself on the mercy of an evil and heartless dentist who has no doubt watched Little Shop of Horrors one too many times.  And to no avail I might add.  That thread still exists.

If this were to be implemented I think it would make sense for it to made known that it is going to be on a temporary basis and only with a chosen few.  Since qps have long been the currency here I would suggest only those with five red stars(not qps) be authorized for this experiment.  Let them tinker with the setup and come back to the mods with their thoughts.  Let the mods watch, chatter amongst themselves, and weigh in with these cats.  I've no doubt that mods would much rather attend to other matters besides having to play janitor with all the threads.  This might alleviate some of their burdens.

Five red stars uh? I agree with the rest of your post, however this part makes no since to me.  Hey gootch, the red stars are a matter of ones opinion and do not reflect the rights of a HC member nor the significance of whether they should get to delete their own post. So who cares if one is a tavern dweller,a pretty pink fairy,or a HC member that only holds one star to your hundred and fifty? Big ******* deal. I could care less about how many stars one has. I have read **** on here that was not worthy of a pretty red star but was awarded one. This again is my opinion and really doesn’t mean ****. Love ya buddy…

With minus QPs is one way. If ever abuse of this option were to be discovered & proven, then the Thread-starter would obviously have breached the CoC (which would need revision to include the "checkbox" option) and would be penalized with a -QP.

While I have not decided one way or another regarding 5 Red Star Members being the only ones having this option available to them; I have thought of another possible format that could be used to implement my idea.

***Call it a compromise, but if a member had to ASK a Moderator to activate the "checkbox" option in a certain Thread that he/she started, then it would give the Moderators a little more power in the process. They could decide for themselves (for example), whether or not a Word Game in the VW really needed this option activated; as opposed to a Story Thread in Bards Glade Pyre. While this format is not my favourite (and it is not much better than simply sending a Moderator IMs, after IM, after IM...add nauseum), I just want to throw every possible variation of my idea out there for people to consider.

That was the second reason why I was doing this! It wasn't only to give members the ability to clean up their own Threads, but also to help the Moderators out.

I don't know about the rest of HC, but I like seeing the Moderators take part in discussions and compete in the various games that members set up. It just sucks when their duties take so much of their time that they have none left to participate actively. Hopefully, my "checkbox" idea would help in resolving this issue.

Regardless, I am really enjoying how people's various opinions on the matter are helping me think of different ways to give members the power to delete Posts in a Thread they started.

Ok everyone...I have had a revelation!

I have thought of way to combine both my sponsored ideas of deleting Posts in a Thread that you start and rating Posts throughout all of HC.

If we were to use the rating Drop-down box and include Delete Post as an option (which would only be available to the Thread-starter), then there would be no need to have a seperate checkbox system in place.

And since the rating is only that...a rating...it would not immediately delete the Post, but flag it for the Moderators to review. This system could be used for all sorts of things: from flagging a Post for +QP review, -QP review, and deletion; to giving a member criticism, feedback, and praise!

Of course, that would mean that all Posts on HC would have to have the "Rate Thread |v| [Go]" option, and not just those whose members voluntarily selected to have their Posts rated. In the end, I KNOW that this rating/flagging system will improve HC and give its members a richer level of interaction; and that is why, I would be willing to pay $50 to see it put in place.
