Poll Question:
Some new ideas! What do you think?

I played Heroes I, II and III.
The game is great, but I have some points I want to tell, what do you think about it?

1) It's sad that low-level creatures become so unimportant in the middle and in the end of the game.
Isn't it possible to upgrade them after some of the high-level creatures buildings have been installed?

2) I often noticed that high-level creatuers are used too early in the game. It shouldn't be possible to build their buildings so early. What about this:
You can build something only if you are "famous" (won enough battles, etc...) enough?

3) Heroes with low experinces should not be able to use strong and high-level creatures, or just in very small numbers. I got the idea from "Pokémon". If you aren't experienced enough, a Pokémon won't do what you want. So how about this feature in Heroes?

4) What about deciding what to build?
You can choose between some buildings, for example, you can build an ogre house OR a wolf farm. (just an example!!!)
There would be more differences between cities, and you'll have to choose what you want - you can't undo your decision.

Responses:
Yes, this sounds nice.
Well... I don't know.
Stupid ideas!
Some points are good!

...hmm, personally I voted for stupid ideas, because there wasn't really any other reasonable alternative...
...I'm just saying, because I think you need to elaborate a bit more and justify your thoughts...perhaps I may be convinced

Actually, this is something that we know is in the game (haven't you read anything about heroes 4?).

1. I agree that lower level creatures should have an increased importancein the later stages of the game. To attain this the differences in stats between the creatures of different levels should be reduced and they should be balanced in such a way that it's not nescesarily better to buy fewer higher level creatures in stead of more lower level. A very expensive upgrade for the lower level creatures would be a solution, but this is difficult to balance.

2. I don't think this will work and it is also not a very smart thing to aim for the higher level creature generators to early on in the game, as this leaves you with almost no money to recruit troops.

3. As creatures can , in Homm IV, move around the adventure mao without heroes this cannot be implemented. In the previous HoMM games this would also be practically unfeasible to implement

4. Already in HoMM IV. You can now choose between 2 creature dwellings of the creatures of level 2-4. The 2 Level 1 dwellings will both be available in the same town. Ex: level 2 academy (more or less wizards town) allows you to choose between a gold golem dwelling (strong but slow walker) and a magi tower (ranged troop)

1. Do not agree. If low-level creatures become as important as high level, then who would buy the high level creatures? It's already so that the cost efficency of the low level creatures is as good as for the high level creatures. The limitation you have is that when you accumulate low-level creatures, their combined power is less than that of the high-level creature. In other words, when you buy two AAs for 10000 Gold +6g, it will take you many weeks to produce enough Halberdiers to expend that sum.

There are no upgrades in Heroes IV.

2. No thanks. If the Map maker wants this, then they'll simply disable the high level creatures generators for your starting town(s).

3) No, at least not in the case of the creature being associated with the Hero's native town. In case of creature hatred, it may be motivated, but in that case it should be question if the Hero should be allowed to command the creature at all. You also have Morale penalties that could be used to good effect here, and these work better thanforbidding things.

4) This is already in Heroes IV.

Sorry, you are a bit wrong.
I don't want low-level creatures as strong as high-level ones. But as you'll have noticed, low-level creatures become unimportant in the end of games. They're often killed at first by high-level creatures or killed by spells. That's sad.
Couldn't be there a kind of solution?

This is because if you multiply Power * Production you get a much lower number for the level 1 than the level 7. That is: you can't recruit the lower level creature in sufficient numbers. Increase the power of the low level creatures in high enough numbers, and you will make the high level creatures redundant.

No, high level creatures are much more sensitive to spells. This is because they have a higher number for Power / Hitpoints than the low level creatures. This means that it is usually more beneficial to cast say implosion on Archangels than Halberdiers. Sure you will kill 25 times as many Halberdiers than you would Archangels, but the Archangles are more than 25 times more powerful than the Halberdiers.

Yes, it seems that once 500 or so lvl 1 creatures are obtained, nothing else is really needed, especially with an extra thick spell book.
