How to tune Heroes V to run properly?
Hi,
First of all, I'm not sure this is the right forum to post my question, but since I'm a beginner, I hope you'll bear with me.
Following is my problem: I started playing Heroes V since the beginning, but IT RUNS INCREDIBLY SLOW.
Here's my PC configuration:
2.8 GHz Intel Celeron, ATI X700 Pro, 1GB RAM.
No matter what I do (I set the video card options to performance - cutting on the details; in the game I took out all the renderings, leaving it to a minimum config.) I still can't play it properly.
Do you guys know of any settings that might help? Maybe modifying some files in Heroes V? I don't know...what ever you can think of, please post here.
Thanks a lot!

To be honest, that cpu is probably what's causing you the slowdowns.

I HAVE FOUND THAT SIMPLY FORCING THE TOP DOWN VIEW (WHOOPS . CAPSLOCK) helps a lot. I think the option in patch 1.2 calls it classic heroes iv view or similar.

What would you say about playing Heroes 5 in an AMD Athlon 1600+ Mhz (1400 Mhz), 1 GB RAM (PC133) and a NVidea GeForce FX 5200?...
By the way, I turned of all the eye candies and feel that the game runs OK (I don't think it is slow). Except if I turn on the option "Autosave".

maybe the game doesn't like my ATI video board, or ATI in general?

I have an ATI radeon 9800 pro
2.8 ghz processor
1 GB ram
and I can run the game at 1600X1200 with no slow downs...
the camera thing is a reason when you move the camero to the ground... the game slow downs no matter your PC specs... the best way to play is the most vertical possible position...
Maybe you should update your video drivers... and disable antialising from the video option menu good luck

This is my system:
P4 3.0ghz (OCed to 3.3) EM64T with HT Technology
2.5gb of DDR2 533mhz memory
ATI x600pro 256mb
It runs smoothly enough for me, and I have most settings up to max or near it.

That other poster's cpu is a 2.8 CELERON though. Is yours celeron too? Because there's a HUGE difference between a celeron and a Pentium 4 in terms of game performance.

Before I upgraded to a P4, I had a Celeron D 2.93ghz (which was also OCed to 3.3ghz) and I could run the game fine. I Recently upgraded my computer and thankfully it took all the upgrades on this motherboard.
My next upgrade, will not be as forgiving on my system...

Is P4... but I doubt is matter of the cpu... this happen to some guys in the open beta... don't know the real reason... maybe there are some hardware incompatibility with H5... can be anything...

It could be a number of things:
HoMM5 uses alot of memory, so if you have a ton of background programs running at the same time, it could slow the game down a tad.
Also, the game uses alot of processing power, same reason as above.
In my case, the game uses ALOT of Harddrive activity (Virtual Memory), so my 2 Raided Harddrives Raptor 10,000 RPM 74GB drives act as one much faster drive. This was done after I bought the game, so I noticed a major improvement.

Well...
I run an AMD Duron 1.6GHZ, 512ram, ATI 9550, Win XP SP2.... Runs just fine for me.
I would suggest as others before me...
1.) Defrag your HDD
2.) Update ALL drivers
3.) Check your Windows Task Manager window (ctrl+alt+delete) for unwanted processes/apps.
4.) Turn off Antivirus
The only slow downs I ever get is when my antivirus is running (Norton 2006) or when I spin the camera to a more horizontal view.

He could run the HoMMV dedicated server....
I especially like when someone comes to forum asking for help, promises to come back with feedback, and you never hear from him again.
Just a thought, I'm not saying that is the case here.

I don't see why you have problems... I'm on 512mb ram, 2.2ghz P4. Not too sure about my graphic card, but it's around the same... mediocre. I never experienced lag or jerky movement. If you have alot of spyware that could be one problem. Closing MSN Messenger helps quite alot as well.
