Poll Question:
Difficulty levels

Hi. I just wanna know, the majority of you guys play which difficulty level? I myself play Normal(fastest to develope) but I'm really worried people play Hard all the time, especially in ToH tournaments. I do intend to train intensively for competitive play, so I really hope you guys out there would give me honest feedback, thanks!

Responses:
Easy
Normal
Hard
Heroic

I always play on Hard.

I like to play all of the games on the hardest level possible. But playing HOMM5 on Heroic means that you worst competitor is AI player (instead of other human players).

Don't want to say that you'll loose the game to AI player on Heroic. But AI player will "eat up" big part of your army before you even meet other Human player. That's what I don't like. AI on Heroic gets bonuses that might ruin the balance of the game against other Human player.

Yeah I'll be playing with AI for some time. So I am referring to difficulty when playing against AI. I like the comp smarter, but I hate the resource penalties. I always play hard and above from H2-H4. H5 is not too manageable for me, especially since I'm training on Sylvan now. Low resources, and starting mines have tougher creatures. =(

Any tips on improving under such conditions?

If someone has some experience with previous heroes games chances are he'll start with normal to proceed to hard a few days later or start with hard right away.Heroic is not recommended because the resources are too few making the game slower earlygame and less fun.Hard is considered by most the default difficulty for many reasons:The resources are enough to build most things while there is still the need for finding mines to advance the town. You start with a little more than H3's hard most people are used to.The AI can build anything and won't halt its dwellings production/mage guilds until you build them. It's not right the AI not being able to cast more than lvl 2 spells because you haven't buit mage guild 3 nor it being unable to build tier 7 creatures because you haven't.Also it can build every day while on normal only every other day And it still plays in a rather retarded way.If it wasn't cheating...The only thing you have to watch out is that the AI will come for you on week 3 almost always so you need be prepared. And that by month 2 it will have built everything so you may have to focus on defeating it

At multi, I play with my friends on hard difficulty. We would play on the highest possible, but heroic gives an unfair advantage to necropolis, because their army grows strong very fast via necromancy while you can't surpass level3 dwelling or so and you are helpless against week 4 skellie archer rush.

I prefer to play on Normal mode, since the only real difficulty seems to be in how many resources you start with as opposed to your (AI) opponents.

Personally, I don't fully grasp the concept of incurring a resource penalty (while your opponents get a bonus), when the AI does not improve. I rather much have a more difficult game because my enemy is smarter ... not because I have less to go about.

I've proceeded to Hard. Comfortable with the starting resources. I hate maps with no or little resources. I think good maps are those with plentiful resources, but you gotta fight hard for them.

Hard. Because it seems the most balanced.
As Doomforge said, Heroic benefits necropolis greatly.
And on Normal Haven is just too good, training 100+ marksmen on day 6 (or sooner).

I play hard unless I know the map perfectly (then its heroic), mostly because the AI actually contends most of the time (no sitting his only hero in his castle for 3 months until your ready to take him).  With the pure stupidity of the AI at times, its necessary to give them some severe advantages to make it challenging.  On heroic, however, it is often simply impossible to contend with the overwhelming advantage the AI gets .

I have the feeling the guy asked about multiplayer games
And if I say multi games, I mean multiplayer without AIs.

Stands to reason that for singleplayer heroic is the best.

Having only several maps for 2-3 players I fing myself leaving some AI players. This way I can get to other maps, the realy big ones.

Also AI players sometimes help to balance the game. For example: 3 friends play online. The game is imposible to balance in such case (because ussualy then two fight the fird one wins). So envolving several AI players might make a game more intersting (unfortunately also longer).

I only play on the highest possible lv. Reason behind it I'm use to playing HOMM3 XL map+underground also on highest diff with about 2 other friends via internet with other players as computers. Todays Heroes seem to not last long enough "I love a good long game, but I dont like how the computer seems to come over in month 2 with all his creatures O.o all in all fun if you win fun if you die" plus try playing w/o saving that makes it all the better"on multi maps not missions".

Oh and is it me or does the computer always go straight after blue player? Friends and I usally flip to see who gets to be blue b/c thats the worst place to start out on.

Hard is best for a fun factor in H5. I am used to play H3 on Impossible but it simply doesn't compare with H5 Heroic. Played 2 H5 maps on Heroic, and it simply wasn't fun for me. Don't even remember if I finished those 2 games. I'll try again but not any time soon, especially after 1.3.

Plus some factions are at a disadvantage when armies are big.Man,a haven hero with aura of swiftness, luck and retribution with lots of archangels, paladins, imp griffins can end the battle in one turn.

Hard, because that is what I am used to playing on in HOMM3, and the starting resources are just the same as in HOMM3 on hard.
