Heroes 1 mission seven

Playing the seventh mission with lord slayer and i have yo take castle alamar.Problem is that the creatures defending alamars castle are 35 dragons,70 minotaurs, horde of hydras,100+griffins,gargoyles,and centaurs. What solutions can you give me.My total army is about 22 cyclopes,50+trolls,100+ogres,wolves,orcs,and 300 goblins.Should I occupate his other castles or just keep expanding my army until I can be sure of victory.

Hired Hero

For a few pointers, you could take a look at the page for that map on my site.

Some other suggestions not listed (I really should update that site!!):

1. Get the ultimate artifact.  It takes time, but it will pay off.  You can hire extra heroes to help visit obelisks and dig around.  Although the obelisks are guarded by Ghosts, so best to have a strong hero beat those.

2. Again with extra heroes.  Build up a secondary army on another hero, build up the hero if possible, and do a kamikaze attack on Alamar's castle.  You would lose that secondary hero and army, but hopefully do enough damage to make the battle easier for your main hero.

Finding the ultimate artifact may help, but is in no way necessary. In fact, it 'd better not be the Ultimate Book, or it will hardly help at all.

My first tip: if you ever replay this map, attack earlier! If you have 22 cyclopses (and Alamar has 35 dragons), you have delayed your attack too long. There are two way to get to the warlocks quickly: either rush for a level 5 mage guild and hope for DD, or just use a barbarian hero  (no movement penalty!) and walk.

Second tip: the way to defeat Alamar is to use his own weapons against him! Conquer all the other warlock castles first, and start accumulating dragons. Your hero will get very strong from the experience he gains, and the hero with the large army will never attack you! He will just keep sitting in his castle. From all the warlock castles you will gain some 12 dragons a week, and you will soon have enough of them to defeat Alamar.

By the way, my best Heroes 1 campaign so far was as Lord Alamar in less than a year (335 days). What records do you people have?
