As of recent there's been a lot of references to emos on this forum, especially from the mouths and keyboards of william and myself. There are a few of you wondering 'what the heck are we on about?' Put simply, emos are a subculture (or counterculture) that is growing in numbers as of recently. But what is an emo?
An emo, for those poorly educated or otherwise, is an individual who listens to emo punk, dresses similarly to that of a goth and often hang around train stations, parks and shooping centres doing absolutely bugger all. They are also distinguished by the various razorblade cuts on their skin and their dark black hair. Here is a list of the music they listen to:
- My Chemical Romance
- Hawthorne Heights
- AFI
- The Used
Personally I hate these bands because they promote youth suicide throughout their lyrics. Throughout these same lyrics emos have a tendency to cut themselves and to act depressed either in public or on webcams distributed to YouTube. This worsens the quality of life not only for themselves but also for those around them.
Which is pretty much why I hate emo people, not only because of their constant complaining, but also of their bad fashion sense and they pretty much waste people's space and time.
Feel free to share your thoughts and if you are like me and also hate emos feel free to express that as well.

It's depression.
There is all types of it & people do get diagnosed.
Yes it can lead to suicide or murder.
Look at Josep Stalin.
He was diagnosed & look what he did.
Depression can lead to ruin if you cant cope with the depression.
Medication helps but it will be there.
We all have it, we all dont lead happy lives all the time.
Stress is a big part of it.
We all have it we just learn to deal with it.

I didn't really know what an emo is, but I've done some searches on the net. Now what the **** is wrong with those kids? I mean, I undertand goths, punks, metalheads, even glam rockers(as I am myself one); but c'mon, emo kids? Those guys are way off.
Ah well, 'live and let die', as Axl Rose once put it.

Trogdor, I will admit that I somewhat agree with you when it comes to this "emo" thing you seem to dislike. Personally, I can't stand whiny music, especially stuff that involves constant pressure towards cutting and suicide.
But I think there are two big reason that bands like that exist.
1. Some people stay away from depression and suicide by listening to it and experience it more mentally. Some people just find it relaxing and rather comforting to listen to a band that seems to understand what they're going through, kind of like they're leveling out emotions.
2. The bands make tons of money from being emo and being extremely good looking, thus they can spend all that money on being a little more emo and a little more good looking.
I honestly think it's all up to what music taste you have. Personally, I like industrial. It makes me relax and it makes me feel good. Now, some people may find emo relaxing. I don't know. Whatever suits them.
When it comes to the lyrics that contain suicide and depression, I can't really say much. I would think that Marilyn Manson would be your top enemy in that case, and I can think of a lot of bands that wouldn't fall in your emo category, but would jump far ahead in front of My Chemical Romance, but I guess that's beside the point. That's something that is sad, but can't really be stopped. The media has been soiled with bands like that and there's really nothing you and I can do about it.
That's my view on the topic. I'm not a fan, but I can relate to the people that find "emo" enjoyable.

I agree with you Trogdor.
Bands like AFI, Panic at the Disco, and others are emo bands.
Mainly some of the worser Emo Bands mainly have whining screaming music, well actually I couldn't even call it music, could just call it "someone having a psych" or "crap screaming whining stuff" lol.
Whats the point in making these kinds of bands or music as they like to call it?
The Emo society is brining the local communites down to a lower level, most of the emos are suicidal and that's a bad thing.
When they kill themselves they affect many people around them, just because they decided to turn emo, pfffft what is the point in that?
Goths are ok, Punks are ok, but Emos, that just takes it to a whole new level of stupidity.
The Emo population think that their "fashion" is cool, but believe me, it is definately not, it is stupid, looks crap and they make themselves look stupid by wearing that crap.
It really is the worst style of clothing ever.
And another thing, the Emo Haircuts, that makes the emos look even more stupid, I shall never get an emo haircut in my life, because it is silly.
I dislike Emos, and if you find this post insulting then tell me, but I am stating my opinion

I think the fashion trend looks ridiculous as well.
Most of the time, especially in extreme cases.

So what do you know?Most of us can only watch emos on the outside and what we see is mostly negative.Can't say I have any kind of dislike,nor take any emo as the 'typical emo' many refer to but I definitely don't like what they represent.If you are aware of something more I would gladly hear it.

Hey guys, I just wrote and recorded my very own Emo song. It's gonna be a hit, I swear. The lyrics evoke the idea of suicide, but actually refer to something else. Oh man, this is gonna be extremely controversial. Perhaps for my safety in this thread, I won't discuss my impending wardrobe changes...
