I don't think dendroids will be in the lineup, but really hope they can be summoned. I know the squire is known to be level one and pikeman level two. But first, the squire looks stronger, and second, it would make no sence to make the pikeman level two (as strong as the minotaur, who were four levels above in HoMM3). About the church, in HoMM2, the crusader dwelling was called armory, and the cathedral was the paladin dwelling. The strange tower in Asylum,

is probably some kind of unique building, and I'm quite sure it isn't a dwelling (it's placed different). I also thought of the possibility that the venom spawn could be a shooter, but I'll wait until any information or evidence is released. About dwelling guesses on the H4 fansites, some of them are very strange, and not taking regard of the building placements. The monks and angels as spellcasters is a good theory, I'll add the monks as a possible spellcaster.

Well in HoMM2 they were only 1 level apart (Pikemen 3, Minotaur 4). So I wouldn't be that surprised to see them equal. (Besides, would a Squire be equal to a Minotaur? I doubt it.)

Academy: Line-up. Looks Ok to me.

Heroes: I believe some of the interview said that the skills you are offered depends on the skills you've chosen. For Academy I believe this will mean that their heroes can learn all types of magic. They will be offered Life and Death first, but if they take it they can in turn get Chaos and Nature. I believe the same will apply for all the other magic towns. As for charm it's a secondary skill to Order magic, there might be a bonus structure for it in the Academy. Hmmm...

Haven: The only screenshots I'v seen of the town are quite old, so I believe there can have been some rotations since. Also the four building where there should normally only be three hints at that somebody is doing some experimenting.

My guess is that the church cathedral is for recruiting Crusader, like it was in Heroes 2. It appears to be in the level 4 place, but since there's one building too much anyway this may not be of any importance.

As for the line-up: I don't think Squires will be in the line-up or they'll possibly swap places with the Pikemen. Just a guess.

Preserve: Agree with this line-up.

Asylum: Agree with this line-up also.

Necropolis: Fairly uncertain on what the actual line-up is. I don't have any better ideas than Preserver. I'd agree that the Graveyard likely is for Zombies. This has been the Zombie dwelling both in Heroes 2 and 3.

Stronghold: Line-up. The screen shot with the Trolls clearly indicate that they are level 3 creatures. Just compare the 180 HP they appear to have with for instance Genies (145 HP), and you arrive at this conclusion. Then keeping in mind that they also likely regenerates damage and I'd be surprised if they are only level 2.

For the Barbarian I believe you'll have restrictions that they cannot learn a magic skill, at least not before they're an Advanced class. After they've become an advanced class I'm not so certain.

Angels, crusaders and trolls...

I just thought the squire looked stronger than the pikeman, but you seem to have some good points, so maybe I'll switch the two. I also looked up all Heroes 2 Knigth's Castle dwellings:

1: Tatched Hut (peasants)
2: Archery Range (achers) (rangers)
3: Blacksmith (pikemen) (veteran pikemen)
4: Armory (swordsmen) (master swordsmen)
5: Jousting Arena (cavalrie) (champions)
6: Cathedral (paladins) (crusaders)

So the crusaders was from the cathedral. I thought of them as swordsmen (they should be). Anyway, it still doesn't make any sense that fighters like the crusaders are recruited in a cathedral. I still think the angel is the church dweller because:

1: We know they are level four, so their dwelling is placed here. And it would be funny to choose between building something heavenly as a angel dwelling, and then a church (what's the choosing about then?).

2: The angels can't have a sort of heaven gate dwelling in the sky, because the dwelling has to be on land (the same place were the church is placed). Okay, now the angels have to find a building 'down' in the town to be recruited from... No, it can't be a church, cause that's where the crusader lives..

3: If the crusader lives in the church, he would be a level four. Okay. Nothing strange by that (?)... Then the third level of Haven would look like this:

Level 3: Monk (shooter)
Level 3: Champion (walker)

Agree? Okay, now one of these two are going to live in this:

Disagree? Good. The most logical explanation to all this is that the two middle buildings on the row are both level 3, and cannot be places in one time. The other explanation could be that the to last buildings on the row are both level 4, and cannot be placed together. Then the crusader is level 4, but anyways, the crusader dwelling is not the church.

About the troll, it could actually be level 3, and let the ogre mage go down a level (I don't know if the ogre's position is confirmed?). Or maybe it's just the genie lacking of hit points because of its ability to cast spells (better than regeneration?)...

Don't you think necropolis has too many fliers preserver, are you sure the imp flies?
And doesn't the Venom Spawn shoot otherwise the necro would be without a shooter

About Necropolis...

The big number of flyers is kind of confirmed, and may be one of the Necropolis strength/abilities. Anyway, the flyers are quite sure:

Imp
Will be in this town (anyone disagree?). And with those big flyer wings (it's now a mix of the HoMM3 imp and gargoyle) it will certainly be a flyer (if it isn't, the other level 1 should be, if not a shooter).

Ghost
Only creature guess for that funny dwelling, and should be in Necropolis. If anyone think the ghost is not a flyer, please tell me.

Vampire
No evidence, but the vampire has to be in this town. And is a pretty sure flyer...

Bone Dragon
Should be a flyer, and will probably be in this town too.

About the venom spawn, it could very well be a shooter, since there isn't any other. I will correct it as a shooter...
But just a question: What is it going to shoot with?...

Well, I don't think that necropolis has too many
fliers. There are only 3 (imps are not fliers-they are jumpers). But in preserve at least 3 and may be plus faerie dragon. So amount is equal.
And Venom Spawn will be the most powerful level3 shooter.

IMO the imp will not be a mix of the imp and the gargoyle. One of the combat screenshots has a creature that looks very much like the HoMM 3 Gargoyle, and its black and the imp is red.

Sure Imps may be able to fly anyway, but they had wings already in Heroes 3 and were not able to fly then either.

For the level 1 I belive we'll see grunt units. Since both buildings can be built it's the sum of them that must be balanced. For instance the two units in the Asylum are probably both walkers, but with different worthwhile special abilities.

The vampire is a pretty sure flyer, but there are other candifates for the level 3 and so there is for level 2.

What the Venom spawn shots? The fairly obvious guess here is a dangerous venom. The attack may be similar to the Lich's deathcloud. Causing direct damage to the hit creature and additional poison damage to creatures in the area which are not immune.

The imp I thought of (the mix between a gargoyle and H3 imp) was this one:

and not this one:

But maybe the first one was just a non-finished working version of it. Anyway, the wings have grown, and I still think it's a flyer. Elsewhere, the zombie is a flyer ... And for the record, none of the level ones are both walkers:

Academy
Halfling (shooter)
Dwarf (walker)

Haven
Squire or pikeman (walker)
Archer (shooter)

Preserve
Sprite (flyer)
Wolf (walker)

Asylum
Orc (flyer)
Bandit (walker)

Stronghold
Centaur (shooter)
Berserk (walker)

Is flying actually an advantage in this game? In HOMM2 flyers could reach anywhere on the battlefield, but that was removed in HOMM3, so that there was no advantage over walkers other than being able to pass over obstacles and the castle wall. How far you moved depended on speed, not wings or feet. Is there something I'm not aware of?

In my opinion the two are different creatures. the first is a Gargoyle (which is a Flyer) and the second is an Imp with a big trident.)

These look like two totally different creatures to me, so I don't think they've evolved between each other.

It's two different models, different animations and so on. The first looks like a Heroes 3 Gargoyle so that's what it probably is. The second looks like an imp, so likely it's an Imp.

I know that the Gargoyle is not in the Academy line-up, but it could be one of the neutrals.

The Asylum has two walkers. Those orcs with sticks are normal grunt units. (And last time I looked the Orcs hadn't grown wings, so I presume you're joking when you say that orcs are flyers.)

You are right. The only advantage of flyers is that they cross obstacles (and maybe some on the adventure map?)

Djive:
Haven't you seen those small wings on it's back? Check it out ... Okay, even I make mistakes sometimes ...

Dajek:
??... Trolls are too strong to be level one. They were level five out of six in H2 and five out of seven in H4...
And why do you think berserk is level 3?...

Jenova:
Preserver is right. But bypassing obstacles such as castle walls can sometimes be a very big advantage. A lot of the combat maps also have natural obstacles. At times flying can come in very handy.

Preserver asked if I had seen those small wings on it's back?

Answer: Actually no, the contrast is bad on the picture... But now that you mention it. Yeah they have wings but they have a bit different cut don't they?

steep_descent: Orcs appears to be close-combat units since they are now armed with clubs instead of throwing axes or crossbows (depending on if you compare them to heroes 3 or 2).

Preserver, great work.

Most of your guesses sound reasonable and logical.

Quote:

Level 1: Pikeman (walker)
Level 1: Archer (shooter)
Level 2: Ballista (shooter)
Level 2: Squire (walker)
Level 3: Monk (shooter) (probably spellcaster too)
Level 3: Crusader (walker)
Level 4: Champion (walker)
Level 4: Angel (flyer)

As for the haven line-up, I think squire should be lv1 while pikeman should be lv2. As for the "church/cathedral", I personally think it "should" be the home for paladin which is a lv4 just like paladin being lv6 in h2.

Crusader SHOULD NOT be the top unit. I don't know what is in the mind of homm design team. But I personally think it is a MISTAKE to make crusader an upgrade of paladin in h2. Hope they will not make the same mistake in h4.

Angel should have another dwelling somewhat like portal of glory in h3.

Here comes another guess, how about angel being a "special" creature that can only be recruited in the capitol of haven?
Just guess.

i also think the orcs should be shooters (assuming this screenshot with orcs with clobs is a joke, otherways i guess there would be pictures of the new orcs all over the place), i just hope they will have range penalty on shorter distance. but i think it would be quite cool if the boar-headed orc was a flyer.

I have switched the squire and pikeman. Haven line-up now looks like this:

Squire
Archer
Pikeman
Ballista
Monk
Crusader
Champion
Angel

If the crusader are going to be higher than the champion (level 4), I don't know. It will probably depent on which game they use as inspiration. H2 = Crusader stronger than champion. H3 = Crusader weaker than champion. Thunderknight, I'm not sure what you are talking about, but paladins are herotypes now.

About the orcs, I'm 100% sure they are shooters. On the artworks they are holding an axe, which they used to throw in the earlier games. And on the topic, I'll keep imps as flyers, because they have big wings, it will fit in the line-up, and they should be flyers (in MtG almost all imps are flyers, so it was about time 3DO made them too).
