Well, I think this pretty much sums up the problem with this town: There is no suitable creature for base race. Sure, having the Yeti as a creature would be great, but having all different sorts of Yety would be to stress the credibility too much - Yeti are beasts, not humanoids. And I can't see any of the "important" humanoid races - Human, Elf, Drow, Dwarf, Orc - fit in here, except the Dwarves who are already there.

I think that drarwen base is good because it's a very local town base.
From dwarves base you can create so many creatures that won't be the same and won't be boaring.

Yeti base is not a local base.
From the Yeti base you can create one creature, maximum 2.
You need a town to have a variety.

And Alc, try to not offend our creators.
Criticism isn't a bad thing, but after a hard work, it's hard to hear what you say sometimes.

In hebrew, there's a huge difference between building criticism and destructing criticism.
Try to use the building criticism.

Well I feel I have to get something straight here. First of, I know I'm sometimes harsh - and when I am, it's usually on purpose - in this case I did not intend to be harsh (i.e. no personal criticism), and re-reading my post, I still can't see anything in the post that could be understood as personal criticism.

Secondly, I have no intentions to kill any fun just for killing the fun - I will give my personal oppinion, and in most of my posts I actually carefully stress that what I give is my personal oppinion. You have all the right in the world to just disregard my oppinion, and you should, if you think I'm wrong - many subjects here have continued for 5, 10, 15 or 20 pages even though I didn't care for the original subject - and that's how it should be. After all, if you stop the subject because of my criticism, that's in a way proving me right in what I say ...

Also, you must take into account that we all come here with a different background. I'm a Heroes 3 fanatic with many years of Role-playing history behind me. That naturally flavours my oppinions in many of my posts. I generally have a strictly annalytical approach to what ever subject is in discussion, and will try to relate the subject to the bounds and rules of the known and accepted fantasy worlds. To give an example, when I dismis the Yeti as a good candidate for an Ice race in this thread, it's neither to affront anybody or to make less of the one who made the suggestion - but simply because the Yeti aren't suited for such if you look at how this creature is described in most role-playing worlds (that I'm familiar with) - and I therefore feel that the Yeti in the role of main city race would stress my, and thereby other role-players, sense of credibility. And I still feel the concept of a Yeti armed with a sling to be rather hilarious.

And finally, don't forget the language barrier. There are a lot of misunderstandings on this board, which is never a good thing. I try to state my points as clearly as possible (that might sometimes make it seem rather blunt, but I will not use this as a sole excuse for my sometimes not too gentle choice of words). We should, however, be carefull not to judge each others before we are certain that we understand fully the contents of the other's posts.

There ... Now it's off my chest. And Ted, to answer your question: You get Yellow stars based on your post count. These will also determine your 'Hero Title'. Thus, 4 yellow stars (or 400-800 posts, I think) corresponds to Famous Hero, whereas 5 yellow stars (800-1600 posts) corresponds to Supreme Hero. The Red stars, on the other hand, is your quality point count. The Quality Points (QP) are awarded by the Moderators for particularly wothwile posts - for examples, see the list in the top of the forum, or click on the avatar of a member with many QP's and select the link called 'Bonuses' to see which posts that particular member received bonus points in. I should say, however, that the Moderators have all been very busy with none-board work lately, and therefore there's been a lack of QP's awarded in a long time. Lich King has promised to try to catch up before too long.

generally speaking, the yeti are only as primitive or animalistic as we make them to be. i've played a few games (some of them cooked up by a friend of mine) that have dwarves and elves and primitive as can be, whilst creatures like orcs are at the height of enlightenment. its all a matter of what we do with the creature.

or, failing that, the Academy made lost of beast men, as well as centuars and minotaurs, we could use some of them...like gnolls, as well as yetis.

Sure it is. But I also think we both agree that an approach like that you mention is very untraditional, and probably would make a lot of fans protest.

I know it is. But tell me, does they not all follow the same general trends? For instance, wouldn't you raise your eyebrows if they changed the Orcs to play the role of peace-loving inhabitants of the forst kingdoms, and the Elves to be blood-thirsty Barbarians? I know the game doesn't have to be a slave of the excisting norms, but sticking to them makes it a little more believable.

i see your point, but alot of people cry out for something different from the same old fantasy gerne. i think adding Yetis as a faction will be very interesting.

they don't have to be a particularly civilised faction. on the contrary, they could be armed with clubs, sticks and nothing more, but using them in some way will be interesting.

Sure, it's always nice to have something fresh, and I think the Yeti is a wonderfull idea. I'm not sure the Yeti can bear an entire faction, but go ahead and prove me wrong. But arming a Yeti with a sling will just look very silly I think - I mean, Halflings use sligns, Yeti don't.
