to HoF or not to HoF?
I haven't bought the expansion yet, but i stop by the local gameshop every now and then to check whether they still have copies or not. I can't make up my mind...
Now hit me with opinions as it costs 27€; is that a little too much for an expansion? I am enjoying the regular version already to a very great extent.
Also my comp doesn't play that fast when a lot of the map is revealed (big maps), so has the performance gotten any better? (i read such rumours somewhere)

Yes it runs better. And I have enjoyed the campaigns so far(I'm at the 2nd mission of 3rd campaign now) and had some fun with the dwarves. The new cutscenes, the current implementation of caravans, the storyline are good points-at least better than H5.Maybe the price is a bit high but if you are willing to spend that much you'll probably enjoy it.Let us know if you'll get it

Umm. If you like playing the campaigns and/or wanted a dwarf castle to appear, buy it. If you play mostly multi but don't care for another faction, forget it.

The expansion is a nice way to reforge feigning interest, but there's no need to rush to get it if you are still enjoying the original.

I was just about ready to start HOMM V when I learned about Hammers of Fate. Will it change the gameplay of the original? For example, I read that HoF has caravans. If I install both the original and HoF will there be caravans in the original?

sadly no, i will explain...
Version 1.0- Heroes 5
Version 1.1- a slight a justment
Version 1.2- same as 1.1
Version 1.3- Map editor included + slight ajustment
Version 1.4- same 1.1
Version 2.0- Hammers of Fate
you see Hof is mearly another patch for Heroes 5, only it has a lot more ifo, also HoF also ascts indipently from H5, it will not update Heroes 5 with any patch, or update in at at all, sorry

the price is too high ... but there are some nice stuff added to the game. i hear that the simultanious moves is working fine, so multiplayer will be alot faster... I hope they will put that feature in the original version too , in 1.5!

I wouldn't pay the 49.99 for it, but I went to ebgames and got it for 29.99, which I guess is about as good as your going to get.

Actually, I think it's quite cheap for an expansion. Previous games I've bought - Civilization and Heroes 3 and 4, mostly - have had expansions that cost considerably more than HoF.
As to your question - uhmm, I'd probably say wait, if you're not too eager for having it right now. I have heard there are some very problematic issues with HoF (like Gating problem?), and therefore you should probably wait till 2.1 is here. I bought HoF on date of release, but haven't played it yet, because I'm not finished with the old campaigns. I'm very dissapointed that I won't be able to access the old campaigns through HoF - that is imo. a major problem.

I finally made it to HoF I thought I had played the original long enough...
I upgraded right to 2.1 but there my Runes don't work, only Rune of Charge. *shrugs* Is this something you all have in common, is there a way behind this bug or should I downgrade to 2.0 to use the runes?

Even though it's a bit lame, I'd give the same advice I gave last time: Wait. I believe 2.2 cannot be too far off (though we have had no news, but 2.1 came unannounced as well), and they cannot hold off fixing the thing with the Runes too long - that would simply be to declare themselves a failure.

I heard (unofficially) that 2.2 isn't very close. Better to downgrade if you wish to play with dwarves.

I don't know if this is specific to HoF or if it was included in a patch for the original game but I know that HoF also includes a random map generator which comes with a few pre-made templates. I been playing around with it a little lately and it's been fun.
$50 seems awful expensive for an expansion, I got mine for $29.99 and I think one thing to consider is that eventually most online players with be playing with 2.x so if you play online and want to find a game having the expansion would be good.

Things are simple, the original rmg is crap while the 2.1 one is decent. I expect more in the next patch...

I only found c2m3 difficult on hard which is h*ll without destructive. I don't remember restarting missions as in h5. Some are still challenging however.
