Guitarguy's Guitar Music Thread

For the longest time, I haven't posted any actual guitar music of mine. Being that my HC alias is Guitarguy, I figure that now's a good time to reveal some of my abilities to the HoMMunity in hopes that they'll listen and be at least partially entertained. Of course, there are possibly more talented guitarists among us, so I humbly confess that a lot of my skills still need a lot of work. However, since the time is ripe, I'll let you guys hear for yourselves.

Very good, Aculias. But since this isn't a guessing game, you don't get a prize.

Woohoo! I got the link to work.

I like your electronic song but...

The main thing at the star, the string kind of thing, that could be made a little sharper so that you may be able to hear it better if you know what I mean.

Other sounds in it, equally as nice.

I didn''t think that you could make an electronic song, but I underestimated you.

Well I might have to get a better synthesizer keyboard, cos this one is kinda hard to make a good sound.

Guitarguy, if I may ask you.

What instrument, or well what Synthesizer did you use to make your electronic piece?

I am cuirous, perhaps I could find a VST version which I could use with FL Studio and produce something similar.

I am also guessing, even though I do not know what kind you have, that it has a sequencer on it?

Actually, I was playing soft on purpose. My dad was napping in the adjoining room, so I had to keep it down somewhat. Recording in the living room is a pain, but the quality is up'ed when I do so. If I record via Walkman, I get a lot of messy fuzz in the playback.

Amazing, ain't it? I can't play keys very well, but I like to experiment.

Aw, thanks. I try to make my music sound convincingly peaceful. Of course, I'm sure all of this amateurish stuff falls short of your classical abilities.

Certainly.

I use a Yamaha PSR-225GM. I'm not sure if it has a sequencer built in. What exactly does a sequencer allow you to do? Loop, mix, etc?

Ok, well the quality was pretty good with this one, it is better then the other songs that you have sent me before, I imagined you recorded those other song's via walkman?

Yes, it is amazing

I also like to experiment with the key's, until hopefully I can get a good tune going, and then keep going on with that, that is sometimes how I make some of my latest live songs that I am making via my webcam which has a mic inside of it, so yeh.

Ok, sounds like a nice synthesizer.

Now your question about a Sequencer.

A sequencer is a thing, where you can kinda make it "record" or "load".

You press that, and then start playing.

After you have stopped playing, you then press play and then it will playback what you did before, what you played.

This can be useful if you want that same little tune you made up, and then make other tunes as that one particular tune is still being played.

This is a good thing in synthesizers, and without it, my music might not really be as good as it is (in my opinion anyway ).

Hope that clears it up, but if you do need any help with making Electronic Music, feel free to ask me, I have had about 2 or 3 ears experience with this I think, and I am liking it more and more every day.

Luckily tommorow I get to test out a synthesizer that my dad has had for a while, kept under his bed and in a large box, I just hope that the synthesizer is big like the box it is inside, cos it might mean more knobs and stuff that I can tweak to make my perfect sound.

It too has a Sequencer like my Roland SH101 Synthesizer Keyboard has.

I also have a Yamaha CS01 Synthesizer keyboard, but unfortunately that does not have a Sequencer, so it is not as good as the Roladn SH101 and this other Synthesizer that I have yet to have seen or heard before

I've heard it now. I don't care for it much. No reflection on gg's talent, but it's just not my style.

But I listened to the first one a 2nd time and will probably listen a 3rd time. So what better compliment is there than to listen to it again?

Well I am currently listening to a 39 minute song for the 2nd time, gee I must be crazy

I think though, that if Guitarguy, if he can, learn more about Electronic music, and perhaps incorporate that into his guitar music, cos he plays very good guitar, then his music would be really really good.

Ofcourse, if he plays and records the guitar he plays on as it is, without anything then it would sound bad mixed with Electronic Synthesizer's and all that.

Perhaps adding flanger, if you can, a phaser, and maybe a delay or something, maybe to make it perhaps sound a little more Electronic and change the way it sounds a little bit.

Is there anyway you would be able to plug your guitar into your synthesizer?

I think it is possible, that you can play your guitar, and then using something (vocoder, not too sure) and then it will playback but with the synthesizer keyboard or whatever.

That might be possible, if it is, try it, and then change the effects and all that and get back to me, let me have a listen.

Yes, I record with the Walkman upstairs since nobody is usually up there during the day. The trouble with recording in a house with six other people is that they're all over the place making noise. So I need to find the right place and time.

I couldn't get the second one to work because it kept asking me if I was old enough to listen to it lol, but I got the first one to work.

It sounds really good, simple but brilliant, especially since you wrote it (am I right?).

btw what kit do you have? You mentioned your micro cube.

EDIT:
I got the electronic one to work, by simply trying again and feeling stupid.
It's quite good but unfortunately the sound quality doesn't do it justice, even though I know that's out of your hands.

I've listened to Long Distance Love a few times.

Have you ever used the program Garage Band?
It's for Mac computers, where the idea is that you record you playing your instrument by yourself (guitar/piano/vocals/drums etc) and then you can add in anything else that you want, like a second guitar, a drum beat, a piano melody, electronic beats, bongo drums and other percussion, it's pretty sweet.

Thanks for listening Acu, Binabik, and TA. I'm very happy with the first song, since it didn't have anything tricky in it. I was afraid it would sound too similar to "Imitation of Life", since it uses similar chords. Fortunately, I made it different enough to avoid getting sued.

By kit, do you mean my amp? Yeah, I use my MicroCube now. My original amplifier was a Marshall, but it was super heavy to carry and it didn't have all the guitar effects the Cube has. My only regret is that it'll be a while before I get a good Clapton-esque lead setting.

You know, I think somebody told me about this once. Sounds like something I could really use, although the Mac part is the downer. I actually have a high-quality home recorder and mixer all boxed up, but I cannot use it because of lack of space in the house. That's upsetting for now, and we're going through a major clean-up phase.

Kit as in guitar also, and any other aux

The micro-cube is good, especially the delay effect (my favourite) and the phaser, but sometimes isn't powerful enough, but for such a small amp it packs a punch

Right now, I'm trying to use both acoustic and electric guitars. I really like 12-strings; the sound of the high octave strings is simply stunning and wonderful. I'll try some jangly stuff, and I've even got my own punk-rock song lying around. Of course, I'm not the best singer, so don't expect much in the future.

Oh, and I got a POD XT Live for Christmas! I'm really looking forward to it, but I've a huge manual of instructions to read before I start messing with it. I don't want to break it by doing something stupid.

Well yeh, you are right, you have to find the right time and the right place to do it, try and find a time when it is quiet, and maybe your whole family is doing something.

And yes, you are right I should learn musical notes and all that, I did music as a subject for 2 years, and then for year 9 I didnt have to do it anymore, which I was glad of cos I hated music, that music we were doing anyway, which all we did was play the guitar, every single day, and I could play it back then, but cannot play it now, I forgot how to.

Well if we had a msn convo I could tell you exactly how to use it dude, but that's your tough luck if you refuse to do that, but it is your choice.

And I do not need music lessons to make Electronic music, cos I can already do it.

I will teach myself further, how to correctly time my notes, and all that, and hopefully learn the Minor And Major things, like C minor, C major etc etc etc.

Maybe you could teach me, seeing as though you are good at music.

The key here is making good electronic music, and since you're basically doing free form in your compositions, that's not the best security. Arm yourself with the knowledge of which musical notes and chords go nicely together, and you'll have more ideas rolling in. I can try to help you, but I'm not exactly a good teacher.

@TA: Is it just me, or is the delay effect from the Cube rather soft? I've heard louder versions coming from other amps, but it just seems too weak (or subtle, I should say) for my taste. To fix it, I usually just turn on low tremolo to get a similar effect.
