mercenaries for everyone.

as the title suggest, i think their should be some neutral creatures that you can hire at your town, via a mercenary guild. they are universal, though some may be associated with specific factions, which is rubbish. you can't play as this faction, as they have no heroes, you can only hire the creatures. you hire them at the mercenary guild, that offers one of each level for your choosing. however, you must have all the dwellings already built in your town (upgrades not nescessary) for you to hire a creature of that level. so if you wanted to hire a pirate, you would have to have built the lvl1 dwelling first. i have ideas for 3 creatures, but it doesn't just have to reach 7, it can extend to having 3 lvl6 and 1 lvl1, who knows? best to start of and get all the lvls down.

(KD idea)
Lvl1 Pickpocket
cities are littered with pickpockets. many go into the theives guild, however most chose to operate alone. these cunning creatures are able to untie the pursestrings of even the most miserly member of society.
specials: Thief (if he is in a natureal army, and if we wait, but soem of them near to us, some of our rescoures lowered, if he is in our army, the enemy loses soem rescoures after waiting near to our hero)

(baklava idea)
lvl1 Pirates
pirates from the irisus sea are vicious cutthroats and plundering rogues, who kill for money. they often are the ones responsble for many ships to sink.
specials: looting (after a victorious battle, you get a gold piece for each enemy you've killed, if you still have pirates in your army of course), cutthroat(has a 20% chance to attack twice)

(baklava idea)
lvl2 Corsair
Corsairs are pirates from the Jade ocean, buy no means less deadly, though they are regarded as heroes from the opressive bone fleets of heresh, whilst the pirates of the Irisus see are seen as the scourge of the sea.
specials: looting, cutthroat, swashbuckler (when this creature defends, besides additional defense, it also gains unlimited retaliation for that turn)

(KD idea)
Lvl2 Bandit
bandits are unashamed of the fact that they make take more than money on the roads. they are escentially willing to do what it takes to gain the money, including taking a live. with this in mind, they always have a improvement to combat in needs be.
specials: Thief, Bleed Strike: gives +30% damage when attacking unarmoured chreatures (griffin, mage, archmage, titan, colossus, peasant, imp, familar, succubues, sucubus mistress, pickpocket, bandit, zombie, plauge zombie)

(baklava idea)
lvl3Bounty hunter
imposing ,experienced women in coats, made of fur. bounty hunters have learnt that people generally trust women to get the job done better than men, as they remember detials. they often wear trophies of their catches around their belts, where they store knives and rapiers.
specials: knife throw (activated ranged attack, available once per battle), coup-de-grace (when attacking small creatures (who take 1x1 space) automatically kills at least one unit in the stack)

(KD's idea)
arbelesters of challoth are powerful adversaries. whilst they don't have the skill at launching two arrows that the elves had, they make up for that by being more damageing than any other shot fired!.
Arbelester

m: 0
S: 12
Abilityes: Shooter (attacks with crossbow), No Meele Penelaty (attacks with short sword), Precise Shoot (arbeltster is good sniper), Wound (does by the strong arrows)

(baklava idea)
lvl4Headhunter
Headhunters come from savage bloodthirsty barbarian tribes and adorn themselves in tatoos (not as much as blade dancers though), piercing and bone jewelry. They attack with blowpipes so they are ranged units. In melee, they fight with primitive axes.
specials: shooter ,poison (stronger than assassins' yet weaker than manticores'), warcry (activated ability; once per battle, headhunters can spend one turn in warcry and have morale and luck raised by +1 for 3 turns)

(KD Idea)
Lvl 4: Spellthief
spell theives are prized opponents. these exiled students have had to make a living out of the little magic they learnt. what better way to make money than holding people to ransom because if they don't pay they will be die.
specials: Thief, spellcaster: (vulnerablity, Weakness)

Lvl 4, the brew master
the traveling brew masters is a common sight along the roadside. they cheery call attracts troops to quench their thrist in his barrels of ale and on his bottles of spirits. they are easily recongised, as they have their hair tied up, massive amount of barrels and bottles on their back, a mark up board on a staff, and around their belt are bear mugs.

specials: bash, drunken haze (enemys who get hit take a -2 penalty on their intiavtive, due to the fact they are stinking drunk)

lvl 5 enchantress
the enchantress are also expelled students from academy, for the same reasons as the summoners, who have joined them in their new education.  the magic of enchanting. using a myriad of masks, the enchanters can change the loyalities of the enemy to suit themselves. they are easy to spot. they are incredibly sexy, with long flowing hair, a snake somewhere in there, alot of jewelry and expensive and revealing cloths.

specials: shooter, spellcaster (weakness, endurance), seduce (random penalty on the enemy creatures attack)

(baklava idea)
lvl 5: questing knight
This knights are those who feel that they have to prove themselves in some way, having faced some kind of public disgrace. They'd be lightly armoured, to prove they are brave (or incredibly stupid), with swords and plain shields, with no heraldry to show they are exiles. They'd have capes (withohut hoods, just capes, dark green or brown) and their horses wouldn't be covered in barbing like the paladins'.
specials: large, jousting, determinity (these creatures are not affected by banshee howl or other morale lowering abilities, although they can still have low morale from mixed troops, raiding tombs, Tunic of the Carved Flesh and similar), wedge formation (these creatures ignore 50% of enemy's defense).

(baklavas idea)
lvl6 avenger
avengers have gone through some terrible tramua in their life. maybe their family has been killed, or their home burnt down, their village destroyed or all their profits been leeked out by a trechrous partner. the only thing left for these desperate men and women is a burning hatred for anyone they face, working themselves up into a psychotic frenzy, intent of hacking and slicing the enemy assunder.

lvl7 pyromancer
pyromancers are wizards who, instead of studying all the feilds of magic, have chosen to study only the most dangerous and the most destructive... FIRE! they are almost completely consumed by the power of fire. they dress in bright colours (usually red and orange) with flame like patterns on the skin and clothing. they smoke, drink whisky, chew tabaco, have matchs on their fingers, have lanterns on their back. they are licensed pyromaniacs with whispers of being able to control a mighty efreet!

That would be used when someone gets near them to prevent them from shooting), fire sheild, immune to fire (who would have guessed), spellcaster: fireball (suprise, suprise), summon efreet (costs the same as armageddon

lvl7 summoner
the summoners are expelled students from academy, for various crimes (sex, drugs, alcohol, smoking) and have set up thier own type of education. the education of summoning. using scrolls of summoning, the summoners now summon feirce spirits and powerful magic. the students are easily recognisable. they often have very long, very untiedly, hair, a large paunch, a pipe that emites multicoloured smoke in their mouths, fine cloths, bags of gold, and are often siting upon a huge frog, with scrolls of summoning around themselves and on the seat on the frogs back.

Frogs!!!
Make it summon bunnies too!
If I were a wizard, I'd be a summoner... Sex, drugs, alcohol and frogs... Hell yeah

Mercenaries should have names like Outlaw, Rogue, Trapper, Avenger, stuff like that...

baklava, basically i'm allowing anyone to come up with ideas for creatures on any level, including ones with creatures on them already. if you don't like the summoner (by the sounds of it, you do), you can come up with an alternative, like a prism dragon, or and war elephant. trappers, avengers, rogues are welcome! just as long as you make the stats and some really cool abilities ! (yes, i am lazy, i'm a fat , longhaired, lecherous, alcoholic summoner on a frog!)

I suck at stats... But I can describe them a bit...
I imagined trappers as sort of human hunters, like Davy Crocket, just without firearms. Armed with some throwing knives, and stuff like that, with stats similar to a Master Hunter, just without Warding Arrow and with Crippling Shot (like dwarven Spearwielders) and ability to cast fire trap.
Rogues would be people in leather armour, with a shortsword and a buckler. Stats like conscripts, just with higher speed and initiative, with Shield Bash and Attack Twice.
Avengers would be cool people in dark green hoods with claymores. Their stats would be similar to those of Grim Riders, just with lesser speed and higher attack. Their abilities would be different though: Cold-Blooded (their morale can't be lower than zero) and Parry (15% chance to block melee attacks of small units)
You could add ninjas and assassins too...

can anyone thing of other possible creatures.

i would kinda like to fill all the levels out but it isn't necessary. any creature that can't be fitted into a faction can be placed here. including harpies, yetis, goblins, kobolds, and many more!

this could include humans or elven creatures that you thought should be in the game! including wood elven stag riders?!? dark elf crossbowomen ?!? dervish, ritualist, vampire corsairs, anything !!

Well, here's a bunch of ideas, you just take those you like and shape them to your liking (tell me if some are unclear, I'll desribe them):
Pirate, corsair, headhunter, bounty hunter, tribesman, shade, questing knight (idea taken from Warhammer), viking, sniper, sharpshooter, ogre, hill giant, frost giant, troll, cyclops, pegasus rider, eagle rider, amazon...

pirate and cosair sound intertesting. i would really like to see their ablities. its the sought of thing i'm after.

ogres i don't see as being mercenaries, but on the other hand i created a town of ogres, so who am i to judge.

the questing knight sounds interesting, but these mercenaries are ment to be for everyone, and i think it would be very hard to convince people that the quester didn't fight solely for haven.

bounty hunter is another creature that sound great for mercenaries, as it encapsulates the whole idea, sellswords who kill for money. Head hunter is just a upgrade to that, sellswords who kill for money and stick peoples head up on poles.

alot of the other ideas sound really good. please send abilities, and i'll see what i can do stats wish.

Ok... How 'bout something like this, for the beginning:
Pirates: looting (after a victorious battle, you get a gold piece for each enemy you've killed, if you still have pirates in your army of course), cutthroat(has a 20% chance to attack twice)
Corsair: looting, cutthroat, swashbuckler (when this creature defends, besides additional defense, it also gains unlimited retaliation for that turn)
Quote:

There are all sorts of knights out there... And all sorts of quests they're interested in

Of course, I thought Questing Knights should look neutral in heroes, just so that two different models aren't necessary. They'd be lightly armoured, with swords and plain shields. They'd have capes (withohut hoods, just capes, dark green or brown) and their horses wouldn't be covered in curtains like the paladins'.
Questing knights - jousting, determinity (these creatures are not affected by banshee howl or other morale lowering abilities, although they can still have low morale from mixed troops, raiding tombs, Tunic of the Carved Flesh and similar), wedge formation (these creatures ignore 50% of enemy's defense).
I'll think up abilities for other creatures later

well, i wanted them to not only be riskless and hedoistic, but i wanted them also to be quiet wise as well. ok, so their as fat as pigs, drunk as lords, enjoy brothels, take drugs, but atleast they are wise about it, along with wise about magic.

Bounty hunter - I thought of these guys like experienced, unshaved dudes  in coats, maybe made of fur or something like that. They'd have a rapier sword and a hat like Van Helsing...
Abilities: knife throw (activated ranged attack, available once per battle), coup-de-grace (when attacking small creatures (who take 1x1 space) automatically kills at least one unit in the stack)
Headhunter - these are NOT upgraded versions of bounty hunters. They're totally unrelated. Headhunters come from savage bloodthirsty barbarian tribes and adorn themselves in tatoos (not as much as blade dancers though), piercing and bone jewelry. They attack with blowpipes so they are ranged units. In melee, they fight with primitive axes.
Abilities: poison (stronger than assassins' yet weaker than manticores'), warcry (activated ability; once per battle, headhunters can spend one turn in warcry and have morale and luck raised by +1 for 3 turns)
