Wrong creatures! Should we care?

ATENTION!!!! Here I'll also mansion creatures from heroes 3&4 ( far not only 5 )

Hi! I don't know about you but I've spoted that lots of creatures in the game do not look the way they are sopose to. The descriptions mistaked creatures I take from a licenzed book called "Fantasy Enciclopedia" and other books of mitology and personaly translated the texts from my native language( bulgarion ).
Mistake 1.: Manticore
Description: A manticore is a beast with a lion's body, a human's face 3 lines of teeth in his mouth and that roars quite like the sound of a horn.
The mistake: Nobody says enythink about an EXTREMLY toxic skorpion tail and bat-like wings

Mistake 2.: Gorgon & Medusa
Description ( of gorgon ): The gorgons are monsters with the body of an old human woman, had of a lion, teeth of a boar, snakes instead of hair and giant crow-like wings. Also their boies are covered with a fat layer of green stone skin and their arms from the elbow down to the end of the fingers are made of copper. They have the power to thun living beings into statues if their eyes meet. Acording to the legend there are three gorgons and Medusa is one of them.
The mistake: That has nothing to do with the fortress gorgon in HoMM3
and the medusa can not possibly be a different creature.

Mistake 3.: Basilisk
A basilisk is a beast with the body and head of a cock. the tale of a snake and batt-like wings.
the mistake: nothing to do with the heroes 3 basilisk!

no argument about other creatures for now but if you disagree me or have other arguments Write.

Yes, this is Homm5 .. but well. If you search the net, you can find other kinds desprictions of these beast, and well I think the creator has right to put personal ideas in on the creature... And well, how can we know they look like you said? Well ask those who saw them, oh no they are dead ... :S

About the manticore there is an online encyclopedia by Borges which mentions the tail with a sting able to shoot venomous needles and it lived in the desert. No mention of wings but I'm positive I have seen elsewhere a winged version, after all you may find that the basilisk has two basic versions.

I'm a Greek so I would know about the gorgons. But I never heard of them to look like you mention nor does medusa remotely resemble it.
Actually the creature called gorgon in H3 exists in the Greek mythology but I cannot recall exactly where. A king had a few of them through which tested a hero and they had no specific name.

Hehe, I hadn't seen you mentioning the basilisk before quoting your post! The most popular version is the H3 one with a few additions: It had venom in its blood and one hitting it would end up dead in moments as the venom would travel across the blade and on to the attacker. It had a yellow mark on its forehead like a crown by which it was named vasiliskos, from vasilias=king. It was an 8 legged serpent which could petrify so H3 portrayed it pretty accurately. Well, that one had 6 legs but gimme a break! The one you mention is also known to me and I think it was known as such earlier?

All of these I have read in online encyclopedias but it's been a long time and I can't remember the links. I recall that they were reliable however. A memory of school Vakalo comes to mind but I could be wrong.

Is there not a stroy about Herkules fight the three gorgons? But they did not look like H3 gorgons, but one was a medusa and the 2 others were something else, I think Gorgon is a therm for Medusa and that area of beast... Though I'm 30 % sure

And if you recall the Gorgon from H3 beta, it was nothing like the bull-creature we got in final version.

It was a floating head of a sort.

I don't care about the creatures, after all it is fantasy, so you can have whatever you like as 'reality' has no bearing on it.

I am however deeply concerned about rong spelling.

LOL!  No offense here either, but you spelled these wrong: "offence, spealt (no such word it is spelled), and talkible".

Well in British English 'offence' is actually the correct spelling, only in American English is it 'offense', so that one is not strictly incorrect

The rest I can't argue with.

I know about the Cockatrice - Basilisk mixup.

Anyway, I find it of little imprtance that mythology should be "correct" in this game. It's Fantasy!! They should be making what monster they want. After all, Mythology is just pure fantasy, imagination and sparetime problems from forgotten ages.

For instance, the Manticore has been shown with bat-wings and scorpion tail as long as I know. As long as you don't give it a laser gun I am happy!

Awesome idea! The manticores brought back to life in future! They couldn't save the tail so they give it: LASER GUNS!! Cool!! HoMM 90 - Dungeon tier 6, Mechanical Manticores  .. I got carried away

In greek Mythology Medusa was one of the three sisters who were called "the gorgons"

So basicly, Medusa was a name, and her species was a "gorgon". I don't mind the way they split it in HOMM though. In any fantasy game you always see Medusas being made into a seperate species. Much like the Minotaur, who was also a single creature to begin with in mythology.

I agree a creator has the right to change any concept however he feels. After all, he's not demanding of you you play his game or agree with the way he depicts the creatures.

How I miss the HOMM3 Mighty Gorgons

basilisk; I think the half-toad half-rooster look is crappy xD And I'm happy they made it a 6-armed cool-looking crawling reptile in HOMM3. Heck, in Harry Potter it was a long, huge serpent. Regardless of looks, the concept was never changed: petrifying gaze.

A bit offtopic: Well, in Sapkowski's "Witcher" basilisks' gaze was said to be just a rumour, and they killed with neurotoxins ;p
A shame that Witcher is not very popular outside Poland since it's WAY better than the overlooked Lord of the Rings. Too bad that since it's  full of polish archaisms and word-plays that lose their meaning in other languages that it's completely impossible to translate it well into any other language. A translated version loses half of its quality, I'd say..
