True that the country had experienced a terrible rule but if you look at any country you can find such examples.
After US independence War the Loyalists were either kicked out or hanged/killed when they returned back to their homes. Why because they though differently.
French Revolution killed off also innocent and guilty during its time.
No governmental change happens without bloodshed. The idea is to say that yes it happened but now we changed and doing things differently and better.
Sometimes giving people freedoms of things is dangerous. They might not know how to use them. When Gorbachev declared glastnost' (freedom of speech) the amount of negative news that poured out was huge because they were at that time sensations. What happened it destroyed the moral of the people. The younger generations started to see older ones as idiots who followed some stupid things. They stopped listening to their parents because their parents. People turned away from their own things and culture towards the west.
What Putin is now doing he tries to limit amount of negative news in order to rebuild the moral of the people. People were proud to be citizens of USSR but you will find few who are proud to be citizens of Russian Federation.

LooL! It is unbelivable! Firstable I see that way of explanation for censorship!

The Russia was destroid by Second World War. The easy way for rebuilding was a totalitarian political system. 1960-1965 the things started slowle to going bad, but it is not sensitive in such a huge and rich country (USSR+satellites).  The totalitarian system started to be a enemy of ppl, but a few sciencest understand it.
In that time West Europe and USA was growing his society.
Now we must wait the society of USSR+sats to reach a higher level and the higher level will improve the iconomic, etc.

I fully agree with all posters without Colonel.

Colonel has no elementary political culture, sorry for my sarcasm
