Game Crashes

Hi, new fellow here.

SO I have cross-referenced with google, searched this site, and cannot find an answer to my problem.

When I start a game using an extra large, huge, or impossible map, I cannot reload after being killed, from my last save, without the game crashing, and telling me the program has encountered a problem and is shutting down.

I am running TOE on Vista.  I have 4GB internal RAM, and my main drive is 750G (I have a total of 3 TB of hard drive space).  I have a top notch Video card.

Anyone encounter a similar problem, and if so, is there a fix?

Thanks

Edit: my processor is a quad core 2.4GHz, and I have the latest TOE patch installed.

Did you try multiple times with different maps/saves? Sometimes the save files get corrupted and they don't work... that's why I like to keep the last 3 save files and not just one (I replace the first one when saving the fourth time, replace the second one when saving the fifth one, etc)

I have.  It seems to be related to the map size.  For intance, with Impossible maps, if they load at all, they crash after one save and reload.  With Extra large maps I might get 2-3 reloads, but every time after 2-3 reloads, it will crash.  With medium and small maps, it takes 10-15 reloads, before it crashes.

Given my system is MORE than sufficient, I am confused as to the problem, unless if is VISTA.

Well Vista is not officially supported by TotE so it may be the cause of your problems... but I'm not sure though, there are people with Vista who can play the game fine.

Oh one more thing: install DirectX 9. Even if Vista comes with 10, it does not include the 9 version in it, and it is required to run TotE the way it should.

I will give that a try.

I was thinking that somehow, TOE is not releasing the memory from the last load, when I reload, so eventually the RAM gets overwhelmed, so a fresh boot of the game fixes it, until I load and reload again.  If this is the problem, darned if I know how to fix it.

Thanks

I have 2 GB RAM and can run it perfectly fine though (with XP)

Heck even on my old comp it worked, with only 1 GB RAM.

I downloaded and installed Direct X9.  No difference.  Still crashed.  Man it is frustrating.

i have a similar problem. no problem at all with the included maps, but very large maps with lots of players can't be played on my computer. the saves just don't work after a few times.

small, medium, and large maps are mostly ok

i have a relatively new computer with xp and good stats, so i don't know what the problem is either...

I had a similar problem before on my old computer which was from the year before H5 so I don't know but that could be the reason of the problem. that if it is on ToE it is that the game is from after the comp. My problem got solved by buying a new comp.

Not likely the problem in my case.  I got my new computer a year after HOMMV came out.  I actually got it after TOE came out.  I am convinced it must be something to do with VISTA.  Unless someone else has an answer.

Thanks

I can't check out how this will work 'till I get home in about two weeks (I'm on a student exchange in France )
So, I've got original Heroes V, no patches and neither of the expansions. If, when I get home, I go out and buy HoF and TotE, do I still need to patch my original Heroes, and HoF? As in, do I need to dowload and install patches version 1.01, 1.02, 2.01, etc. ?

If you were planning on buying both expansions, just buy Tribes of the East.  It works even without the original Heroes V and all you miss out on is the Hammers of Fate campaign, which you can download (legally) at this forum.

ToE has loads of extra gameplay features and only one patch so it would be easier all round

Hi

I have one more question about map-making. I know that there is script which determines Autosave in the begining of the game. I saw it in a campain. Is it possible to add this script to a multiplayer map(in case of cheating)?
If yes, could you give me that script.

thanks

You could always turn on autosave..? Why would you need a script for that?

Thanks Cepheus! I'm assuming from your comment that I don't need to patch the original Heroes V or HoF if I buy and subsequently patch TotE, then dowload HoF? So, having bought, installed and patched TotE, then dowloaded and installed HoF, I should, for example, have access to Easy Mode, which was included in patch 1.01? Or Duel Heroes Hotseat mode, whiwh came in 1.02? Sorry if you had made that clear, but I cath on slow.

Tote is independent to hof or the original. All of them have easy and duel heroes by default except the original unpatched H5.

Konradishes, if you install TotE, it will work without any other Heroes games installed. It's a stand-alone. So I don't even recommend you to get the other H5 versions beside TotE, since they don't add anything over TotE except the campaigns which can be downloaded from this site.

From my experience I know that people can "forget" about it
