Soldier's Luck only works with units that has an ability which has a percentual chance to trigger. Examples would be Conscripts using Bash, Vindicators using Assault or Unicorns Blinding the target.

Like you've read in the manual, there is a certain chance of this triggering depending on the HP of your stack vs. the HP of the defending stack. HP boosts from skills or artifacts WILL be taken into account here.

When your unit attacks, a check is made to see if the ability triggers. The formula from the manual lets you calculate your chance (basically, the larger your stack is compared to defending stack, the greater the chance).

Now, what Soldier's Luck does is that IF you FAIL the check - i.e. the ability does not trigger - ANOTHER check is made with the SAME probability. In this way, you have two shots at your ability triggering. If you fail BOTH checks, the ability won't trigger, but if you succeed on either (first or second) it does trigger.

Kinda stupid a question but anyways..

Does sorcery grant your hero initiative 11, 12 and 13 respectively or is it only applicable after the first spell cast?

There are nice overviews with motto, capital, worship, description etc. for all factions except the orcs. Where can I get quick information about them?

I'm afraid Ubi didn't release a Stronghold overview. I could beg them for one when the DRM mess ends, if you like.

Actually, there is an artbook that comes with the collector's edition of the game, and it has an interesting overview for the orcs.

EDIT: Here it is.

"Orcs have a tribal organisation. Each family group has it's own herd, and moves to follow and protect that herd. Each clan also has a warlord or a shaman, who handle the physical and spiritual needs of the tribe. Marriages between clans are common; so are short, sharp conflicts growing out of raids or disputes over prey. If there is any threat to the orcish nation as a whole, however, such things are quickly forgotten and any invaders face a unified front.

The only things more important to Orcs than their herds are their Aurochs. It is said that steppe orcs are born in the saddle, marry there, and die there, and this is not far from the truth. Orcs mounts are plucked from the vast herds of wild aurochs that roam the steppes, and are carefully breed to be the most ferocious warmounts on the face of Ashan. Orcs can ride without saddle or bridle, and can fight mounted as readily as most people walk.

An orc is expected to contribute to the tribe as soon as he can. If he can walk, he can do chores. If he can do chores, he can ride, and if he can ride, he can hunt. All orcs, male and female, are taught to ride and fight before separating into their different "disciplines". There are those male orcs who prefer to stay by the hearth and female orcs who hunt and raid. These orcs dress and are treated as if they were or the "appropriate" gender for their role, and otherwise nothing is said about it. Schooling, caring for children, and other tasks are tribal based, the better to maximize resources and keep the children safe. With a fuel at a premium and fire always a danger, one cook fire is always better than a dozen."

Art of Might and Magic, pg. 71

"Tents can't really be called architecture, can they? Still, orcish tents are highly distinctive in both shape and color. Drab on the outside, they are decorated richly with woven rugs and tapestries on the inside. Orcs also build small covered wagons - out of wood they raid from their neighbors to the West.

The wagons are often brightly painted, the better to stand out in the vast expanses of prairie. Some orc tribes have begun experimenting with "sails" on top of these constructs, the better to move swiftly across the land."

Art of Might and Magic, pg. 98-99

Do you have the original game?  I know the expansion is on www.steam.com but it requires the original to run.  Not sure how it works mixing steam and cd versions...

Found it on Ubi's website, it's double the cost of Steam but it works at least.  Thanks again.

I have a question about Puppet Master. In the description it says that control of the target will be lost once it's attacked, but when I recently finished the ladt orc mission they always cast PM on my bloodeyed cyclopses, and just kept killing them without me regaining control of him (even though he was attacked). Why is that?

Maybe that was true back in original game but a lot has changed since. Puppet lasts as much as the duration says, nothing short of cleansing/magical immunity/lay hands/purge will get rid of it.
