Can you help me

I cannot play heroes V. I have the sounds working, but there are no graphics or pictures. I just get a blank screen. This problem occured after I uninstalled windows vista and then re-installed it without uninstalling the game first. When I reinstalled the game and tried to play it I got sound and no picture. If you can offer any assistance it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Currently playing a hot-seat game on a random map in TotE. There is a need to continue playing on an another computer (that also has TotE installed). What files do I need to transfer between the computers to make this possible? I'm guessing the map file and the save file?

Those should do the trick yes. Better to copy the save folder just in case you get the save wrong, easy to mix them up unless you have given them a specific name.

What decides when a shooting unit's arrow becomes "whole" (when it does full damage)? Is it the speed attribute of the unit? How much damage reduction does the "broken arrow" do?

If the unit is within 5 tiles it does full dmg, outside this range you do half of it.

Crossbowmen, arcane archers and magi (plus their upgrades) are units with max range. They always have a "whole" arrow. The unicorn horn bow is an artifact with gives all of your ranged units max range.

For shooters who don't have max range, it depends on the distance from the target. When the target is within a certain distance of the shooter, the arrow becomes whole.

Shots with broken arrows deal half damage, shots with a whole arrow deal full damage and shooters who do not have the "no melee penalty" ability only deal half damage in melee combat.

If shooters are besieging a castle, and need to shoot over a castle wall, the shot's damage is halved. Shooters with max range deal half damage (and the arrow will be broken) while shooters with half range deal a quarter of their damage.

Stuck! Didn't know if I could post it in campaign help since it's not a part of the official stuff so here I go:

I'm stuck on "The Veil of History" in the LotA campagin, (book 2, mission 3). I can't figure out the 100 daughters needed for the stela of Gaiam, or the proof of might/protecting the weak from the stela of Bellum.

Is there a good walkthrough for this somewhere? Thank you.

It's just the amount of units available to recruit in town each week. Citadel and castle boost that number.

Well, it is. Weekly Growth is even used as a condition for the Avenger skill (in order to pick a favored enemy, you need to kill at least two weekly growths worth of that creature).
However, it's not directly stated in the unit description.
When you have a dwelling outside of a city or without citadel or castle /other buildings boosting growth, weekly growth is how many creatures are added to that dwelling each week. Weeks of that creature type double it, Fever and Disease reduce it.
Recruitment on the other hand is a static 3/2/1 additional creatures regardless of growth. External dwellings also add a static bonus creature to each town dwelling (not affected by citadel or castle ).

While most tier 7 creatures have the same growth, lower tiers can vary significantly between factions. Compare 7 Scouts to 22 Peasants (I think Goblins are even higher).

Is it possible to block a ranged attack?I doesn't seem to work for me.Shooters are valuable and they are always the targets.I'm not talking about getting a unit to stand in front of the enemy either.

I'm not sure I understand your question.

You can't hide units behind other units as you could in Heroes 4, thus inhibiting line of sight from hostile ranged units. Castle walls will provide 50 % cover, however.

You can cast Confusion on enemy ranged units, which at expert mastery will make them loose their ranged attack, and decrease effectivity on lower levels (similar to Heroes 3 Forgetfulness).

You can cast Deflect Missile, which will reduce damage from enemy ranged attacks with up to 70 %.

And finally, as you mention, you can place yourself beside an enemy shooter, thus blocking its ranged attack.

About Confusion,what else does it do?I cast in on an enemy(ranged,melee,doesn't matter)yet no results.They still shoot,attack or retaliate.What are the differences in levels?

Dont forget about units with ability "Shield other" which gives you a 50% resistance from shooters attacks.

Read the description. It reduces ranged attack and retaliation damage by a certain percentage. You need to have Expert Dark Magic to provide 100 % reduction (i.e. no ranged attack/retaliation). At lower levels, damage will simply be scaled down.
