What I really don't understand Mvass - is what your point is. I mean this in a sincere way - this isn't a "slam the complaining guy" post - what I want to know is what your main objective is.
If the forums are now so awful to you that you don't want to be here - why do you make these posts? Or, if you still do care about the state of HC and what's happening here - why are you constantly so negative?
If there's one thing I've picked up on in my time here, its that you can't make anyone make things better. If you want to see a change, then you have to work at it - you have to be a part of it. You can't just point fingers and talk about the way things were.

My point is to make people realize that HC is not at an all-time high. Maybe, if they realize that HC used to be better, they will realize that it can be better than it is now. HC needs more than that. It needs much more.

I still care about HC. Seeing the world through rose-tinted glasses does not often help. Happiness isn't happiness if it's reached via LSD. Sometimes negativity is needed. You could say, "HC is good." I say, "HC could be better. I have seen it before and it can happen again."

I'd be one of the first in line to say it can be better. So if you think that I'm skipping along flinging rose petals and singing tra la la, you've mistaken me for the easter bunny or something.
There's a lot that could be better. I would think the number one issue that needs to be resolved is the spam - and the what goes where problem.
Far too much is posted in the VW - this should be a place for wordgames and links to vids etc - the other stuff should go in tavern.
I'm completely on board with doing what it takes to make HC more fun again - the problem is that there is a lack of willingness to commit. Even with teh threads we see here.. everything trails off, games die off, threads get forgotten... Beyond taking up a whip and beating down everyone who doesn't stick by to build their threads, I don't know what I can do.
The problem I have with the way you post these types of things Mvass - is that you come off as criticising everyone for not beeing the way people were in the good ol' days. Making people feel inferior really won't inspire anyone to post more. What we need to do is get things going again so that the lurkers start logging in and adding their 2 cents, not make them feel like anything they post will be critiqued and compared against the ancients

I agree. A lot of the stuff in the Wastelands should be in the Tavern. The Wastelands has definitely lost its spirit.

I think you've hit the nail on the head right there. And, since people don't commit, not much good new stuff is added, thus, fewer people are inspired to commit.

Yes. Part of the reason is not enough participation. I mean, my CYOA would still be going if there was more participation.

I see. That could be a problem. I'm sorry. I should be building an environment friendly to new posts, not one that makes people feel inferior if their posts don't match up to the ancients.

Maybe, the first thing we need to communicate is that you are not supposed to post SPAM here. I think, because this is where the spam goes, a lot of people thinks that this is supposed to be only spam. And then obviously, the forum dies in an instant.

No, Alc, I don't think you understand. The Wastelands is for SPAM and video links. And by SPAM, I mean stuff like word games and amusing polls. Everything else belongs in the Tavern. The Wastelands wouldn't die if there was only SPAM in it. That's what it used to be, and it was fine.

I really do agree with this point. I can't remember when exactly the Wastelands was first added because my memory isn't the greatest when it comes to minimal things like that but what I do remember is that until last year I really never went in there. I mainly stuck around The Bards Glade Pyre and Other Games...where I was a mod to be more specific.
The way in which I envision HC is like a small town that was built up around something great like some sort of attraction. That attraction was Heroes of Might and Magic.
I do remember when I first joined this site it was nowhere near as large as it is now. There was ToH, Tavern, I think some sort of map making forum, The Alter, and Library. There wasn't even a Mod Squad forum yet. Nobody cared though. HC was fine the way it was because it's original purpose was to be about Heroes and that's pretty much it. ToH was about playing Heroes online, The map forum was about making maps for Heroes, The Alter was to talk about the future of Heroes, and The Library was to talk about strategy and tips for playing Heroes. Then there was the Tavern. Like every good forum there was one place that people could go when they had had enough Heroes for the day. A place to talk about something other then Heroes like movies and...ok in 2001 there was even Heroes talk in the Tavern but it was still fun. I can't say I really posted there often back then because my interests mostly lied in Heroes, hence why I came to the site in the first place.
I posted primarily in Alter of Wishes...then H4 came out and there was nothing left for me to 'wish' for. I moved on and started visiting the Tavern and such threads as Tell the Truth, New Shop Opening, Temple of Worship, and a bunch of others I can't even begin to remember. I was in high school at the time (seems like so long ago) and I was a young spammer just out to have fun on the Internet instead of doing my homework
Eventually Val started adding more forums to help releave the pressure on the Tavern and started pulling a few of the bones that was the Tavern skeleton. I don't have anything against it because then from that evolved all sorts of things.
I recall when the VW was first opened, it's primary use was to give members a chance to look at the funny SPAM threadsfrom the Tavern and elsewhere before they were deleted for good. It was a dumping ground and you guys can deny it but that's what the goal of the Wastelands was hence it's name.
I had no interest in it at all because most of the threads in there BELONGED there. They were crap threads that were going to be deleted. Somewhere down the line though, the lines that divided the Tavern and The Wastelands became blurred. The SPAM started to become interesting. It was intentional and made to be funny. Other members began seeing this and started to slowly move over to the Wastelands. It began to become the HC hot spot...at least for all the people not so interested in Heroes anymore. Just like last year I found myself venturing in there. For awhile it seemed like it was becoming the new Tavern and that's where the problem lies. When you're surfing through the Wastelands and you want to post a thread, go to the Tavern and post it there. If it's crap then it will be moved but if it's the type of funny I'm used to seeing in there then in the Tavern it will stay and maybe...just maybe HC will get that breath of life that it needs.

Today was a good day for Heroes Community.
The Temple was full of new posts and a lot of good ideas and discussions, the Altar has several new threads kicking off with nifty thoughts, GotP is going Alpha, and Alcibiades made one of his classic "overthought out post with lots of graphs and numbers" threads, which made me very happy. I think things are gonna be okay.

Sorry, mvassilev, but I have to disagree. Lately, we have seen such worthy contributions as MMMMM MMMMM MMMMM (this is the longest possible thread name), MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM (this is in fact the longest thread name because there are no spaces), and WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW (this is in real fact the longest thread name because W's a wider than M's). I could go on, but I'm sure you get my drift. If that's all there's going to be posted here, then for sure, I no longer will see a point in spending my time browsing through it, and I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one. There is a difference between spam and posts that are just random thoughts, because the latter will contain thoughts. The former are just plain annoying.

Turbinal.
I still think to this day that splitting the tavern pushed some of the peeps away in seperation.

If I lost you with my reference to Aculias, whoops. When I talk about compatibility I talk about it being more or less one-sided. Same can be said for me. I find HC compatible with me but I would lay odds a gajillion to one that many don't share the same sentiments.

This thread was a complaint in the first place, I didn't see it and go "wow, he is making some good suggestions for improvement", I saw it as a complaint, or whatever you may like to call it.
