New Ideas

Since Valarie is doing and changing things on HC I'd like to put forth some of my own ideas that would make HC much better...

1. I think a great idea that has been in popular demand by so many other members is to have "Co-moderators". These "Co-moderaters" would be able to look at peoples threads and give them ratings but would not be able to give out QP's.

2. Another great idea would be to sort threads in a forum by most posts and not the newest thread. this would make reading the forum easier.

3. A great idea for moderators is for them to announce the top 5 monthly posts and threads in their forum. this would be one step below getting a quality bonous.

4. Since Valiarie is now changing the profiles, a great idea for him would be to put which people you sent IM's to and how many you've sent.

Do you Have any great new ideas???

Yes......

Very nice ideas, there The_Baal, and i recommend them.
I have an idea, although it is not great. If we include your idea of doing that IM count thing, we may be able to also see what day it was.

Also since Valeriy has updated the Profiles in a great fashion (I talked to him last night abou it) With the new threads(You can now see them in your profile) You could be able to add which forum it was in. It is a vital part in the topics, i feel.

Another idea is also to organise the board in accordance to the latest thread, as an option. This will just be like a mini-way of searching. I asked UnkaHaakon if i could help him with something. He said he was looking at the August threads. If you arranged the threads in order that they were posted in, it would also make the moderators job much easier. a.k.a janitors. LOL

These ideas will make HC a better place, if you utilise them properly. Ideas may seem useless in a board that is already the best out there. But there are always thing sto change, things to do......

Comments...

1. This idea I like very much. Co-moderators could be "marking" the important posts to mods like which should be maybe given QPs or penalties.
However as we have got new moderators (Yippee!) that spend some more time than those previous ones...I'm not sure are those needed now. However later if things get tough and mods are running out of time possibly because happenings in life and maybe because new members join then the idea should be looked again.

2. As an option yes, maybe...

3. Do you mean with most posts threads? I think this isn't really necessary. Something similar like best thread of month in every board could be a better idea.

4. Is this really needed? I think many other ideas...as soon as I invent them...there could be much more needed than that.

New ideas?...
I would like to see where member (like me) have gotten their penalties when looking profiles like quality points are already there.

I disagree...

.. about the penalty thing.

Bad enough that penalties have to be applied at all; no need to glorify them

Glorify?

I don't think it would glorify anything it would be only informative.
Now people don't even know if some people has also penalties unless they count how many quality points and posts they have.

I think people should know what crimes one has committed before in here.

It could also show that if I have 6 quality points and three penalties like this:
6 (-3)
Or something like that.

Agree...

... about the 6(-3) format.

I still think that a direct link to a penalty post isn't really necessary (more glorification than information, in my opinion), especially since there haven't been any penalties in the last weeks - to my limited knowledge, at least.

...are the two of you serious?

1) Anyone can be a "co-moderator". It takes little skill or time to actually rate the threads, and one's opinion cannot possibly be all the different from another's. Also, I don't see how they would be co-moderators...that would mean they help clean up everything or in here, give out the oh-so-important QPs...meaning that all is left is pointing out particular threads. In my view, that isn't relaly needed besides normal member participation. The point is that "quality posts" can usually be easily identified, and even if they're missed, you don't need any special priveledges or authority to point them out.

2) I couldn't disagree more. I don't see how that could possibly make things simpler. Sure, it might be a nice feature, where you can switch it back and forth once in a while, if you're searching for something in particular and you believe it'de most likely be found amongst populated posts, I suppose your point is validated. However, if it is normally set as such, that would be completely chaotic. Most likely, one would hvae to search within the last page or two to find all the new threads, and then for slightly older threads, randing through the entire archive. There is a good reason why nearly every single message board is set to display the most recent posts in a forum first. It is because thats usually what people want to see first, and its simpler to reply to, and the chronological order makes searching easier, and in such a sense they can more readily identify where they want to post.

3) What would be the purpose of this? I'm fairly sure that although it may be possible once in a while, it'de be extremely difficult to choose and pick amongst a month's worth of threads and posts and rank them. That would take a tremendous amount of unnecessary time. Yet, if such a thing were done weekly, or perhaps bi-weekly, that would be chatic and difficult as well. I do not believe most of us have that much time on our hands to spend on such frivolous activities. Also, apparently the whole star system can already be difficult to contain and maintain order to. Already are too many people complaining and debating them- why some people have them and others don't. Do you not believe this type of an activity would simply bolster this type of activity?

4) I'm very sorry but I cannot see any reason to do this whatsoever...why would you wish such a funtion to be built in? I doubt many people send so many IMs daily, that they can't keep track of them all and what they contained. The purpose of the IMs is for short, usually not very serious banter or talk. If you want something to last, try e-mail or posting something on the forums. In my opinion, this will only take up room and memory, achieving nothing whatsoever. These could build up if they aren't erased, and it may hinder with the functionability of the message board as a whole. One last thing I wanted to point out, is that I thought IMs were suposed to be private. If people use them, its probably because its not worth posting or they don't want it to be seen. By placing those in one's profile, anyone can view them, and even by the subject line, or the first few words (as each messgae must certaintly be identified in some fashion) anyone can see that, and anything could go wrong, and this may cause some discomfort amongst the members.

...however, I do like the suggestion about the penalties. It might help for clarity to somehow display the total conclusion of QPs and how it arrived at that.

Hear the turban... :)

1) Co-moderators. The new moderators are doing a great job, I agree with Sha_Men, making the need for additionals close to zilch. And as RMS pointed out, if a member wants to be a co-moderator, he/she doesn't need to have any special powers. The current moderators are very accessible by IM and e-mail, so anyone can help out suggesting what needs to be cleaned and where QPs can be given. Members who devote time doing things like that usually become full-on moderators overtime, like UnkaHaakon, who was often first to tell me and Angelspit about rule breaches and board errors if they occured.

However, I'll be thinking about a feature that will allow any promising (QP 3 or higher) or famous (been around posting for a while) member to point out a post to moderator with a comment on what he/she thinks should be done about it. This might be far away, just an idea for now.

2) Re-arranging posts on HC is not planned at the moment, but I think you will like what Age of Heroes United will offer to HC members. Just wait till it's open.

3) I agree, members sometimes feel judged on what they post. Doing posts of the month things could make some members feel competition rather than community spirit.

4) IM system is light at the moment, why make it take up more of database space? Let's keep it simple and working quick. I thought of buddy lists, but why do that when you can just type a member's name? Since the beginning of this board about 4500 IMs have been sent. The database usually contains only about 15 IMs waiting to be delivered.

5?) Penalties displayed. Most of the penalized posts get deleted, while the penalty stays, so there's nothing to refer to - 'no' to a list of where penalties were gained.
Penalties are not used to clasify a person for future judgments, and we want people to be able to improve and forget the past. How you label them is how they act. So I think any other mention of penalties than what we have now will only discourage penalized user from changing for better.

We appreciate the input of your ideas

Hmm, on point three then, at least here, the people who want to do it will have to do that themselves, or at least figure out for themselves which ones are the "best" and then create a thread for it....

Funny you say that Hexa

Because you seem to say pretty much the same thing over and over and over, lol. Just in a much shorter way.

I think that Sha Men just wants to boast about his 'potential' amount of stars that he could have had were he not goaded into being penalized by a certain member of the board. Please Sha, don't take this the wrong way, but our penalties were our own penalties and we shouldn't dwell on them at all. Seeing as most of them have been deleted, just like Val said, there would be no point in displaying the threads other than to keep a record of your 'total once upon a time' QP count.

I don't know if anyone's actually thought about having slightly bigger avatar pictures next to our posts? Our avatars are awfully small, yet they make up such a big part of our posting credo.

I've had the idea of criticizing some quality points that were given out and also suggesting a few penalties, but Val, I think if people with 'x' amount of stars were able to make suggestions and pressure moderators, then the board might end up in trouble. Believe it or not, a lot of people are going to have 'x' amount of stars in twelve months or so. You're going to have arguments all over the place about what deserves what.

I'll leave the moderating to the Moderators, thanks.

Suggestion: It always hurts to see moderators working so hard at the board and not get anything in return other than demands and more demands from us demanding people. How about we have a "Moderators Awards" thread where us posters get to vote for the best Moderator over the past few months? We could hold an award every once in a while and I'm sure that you Val, could come up with a Moderating Star system (silver stars sound nice, you know). Whoever gets voted best/most popular Moderator gets a star. Not only is this a really good way to involve EVERYONE in our Community, but it also gives Moderators something to compete and feel proud about.

What do you say?

*smile*

And how about admin of the month? hehehe *Ahem, due to the lack of competition among admin(s) I humbly accept this award once again*

What?
This "certain member" happens to be moderator.
And what comes to boasting it's the same like my flattering. I never flatter anyone. I mighty be friendly or humorically polite but never I think achieve something true that. If you just count my quality point posts in my profile you will see how many quality points I have. However I can't see my penalty total any other way than minus those quality points off them.

My penalty idea was just small suggestion but it seems some people just quickly draw conclusions of their own. I think people should know that I have penalties from earlier post and I'm still posting here. And what is also important that same mods that gave me penalties have given me quality after so they aren't angry or anything they just do their job.

With same logic that you use Shae_Trielle I could draw conclusions from your critic about some QP and penalties. Are you saying that some members maybe don't deserve QP's but your QP's are all deserved? Just follow the logic and you will find yourself from the pit.

Avatars could be little bigger...do you mean that your shiny green face would be bigger or that avatar could show whole body of yours...just asking...seems you are eager to get it show anyway.

And Great turban has spoke very well again.
