Need better spell system

I know this is a bit too late, but I just don't reckon letting creatures have spell books is a good enough effort to change the spells. It's too late now, but here are some ideas.
They should put in an invocation system so that each time they cast a spell they say the invocation. And also make each word of the invocation have a meaning. eg. in Ultima IX, the spell douse's invocation is an flam, an being dispel and flam being fire. Here is one that I made:

Afnas -increase
Bolt  -project(as in launch)
Cym   -summon (creature)
Drolde-make something do, move
Entan -open, make entrance to
Froil -Expand
Gergua-Fire/Flame
Hydras-Water
Intana-Gust/Wind
Je    -Earth/Rock
Krufol-Speed
Loike -Creature

I'll just leave it up to L for now. Now, for those who don't understand, let me explain: Let's say spell... Haste. Haste's invocation in my system should be Afnas Krufol, which means increase speed. Or hypnotize it would be Drolde Loike which means move creature. You get the idea? As clear as mud? Anyway...they should assign a sound for each invocation for each hero. Like Fiona's invocation having a higher note than Malekith's. Of course a voice for each hero takes a while, but makes the game better with invocations.

They should make artifacts named spell stones, each one of them containing different spells. Like the Stormcloud stone artifact having Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning(notice these are just example spells from Heroes III), and some other spells associated with the word StormCloud.

Also, I'd prefer it if they made spells have effects according to storyline, like a hero with specialty of Stone Skin able to cast Stone Skin and will maybe increase health of own creatures as well as adding stone skin warriors to the battlefield. You know what I mean; make spells more complicated if they are accorded to specialty. Another example would be Xarfax able to cast fireball with a bigger space and also create fireball warriors(Gergua Loike).

Like my ideas? In other words, I just want 3do to be more complicated with spells, more creative and ideas than just the boring old spellbook and cast.

so what you are trying to say is, change the names of the spells and give some heroes advanced versions of common spells?

...the name thing would be quite troublesome... (coming from a guy that speaks Sindarin) ...could be a nice touch though...
...about the hero-special spell it could work...

The specialty bit I was talking about basically rules out that specialty shouldn't just increase effectiveness of spells, it should also make another effect, a chain effect to go with the spell.

I like the idea...

...when I said "advanced version of common spell" I had the chain effect in mind... this should make heroes even more distinct...

Thanx my dear wild elf...

And maybe when they get up in levels they get more chain effects. And more chain effects if they have grandmaster Magic. Actually, they could not only do this for spells, they could do this for secondary skills!!

now there is an idea...

...of course this could get very complicated... and the balance factor should be considered... for example... Xeron's grandmaster chain effect shouldn't be stronger than Astral's grandmaster chain effect...

The invocation would be a very good sound effect(where you hear the hero say the magic language) but if you mean that the hero must have the words in his spell book and then spell out each spell with the words before casting I would definately say NO! in my loudest voice.  It would add nothing, and make a game more complicated just for the sake of being more complicated.  This would decrease reply value and make the game less acessable to new gamers.

But as a sound effect it could be great and add alot of texture to the game, somewhat like the music and graphics.

Oldtimer, i agree with you partially: maybe heroes could learn from various sources the magic words(stones, libries,....) and then create the spell by themselves. And, once you created a spell, haste for example, the spell appears in your spell book already made up next time so you don't have to make it up over and over. And maybe you could create new spells by adding a basic spell(haste, magic arrow an so on) with another word, and so on. Something like mixing potions in Might&Magic series. Two basic potions make an advanced potion, one advanced potion and on e basic makes an expert potion...You get my meaning. And, i agree with sound effects, they would really be cool.

I think you are getting his point wrong..., what he meant is that spells still stay the same to cast, but the words the spellcaster says are determined by the sort of spell (bolt, beneficial, fire,...) This would be automatical. I like the idea.
